I don't specifically know why, but major heads of labels and Spotify have said that constantly releasing helps a lot in popularity in the streaming era. Look at Khalid, he stopped releasing for a while and now he can't get a top40. Rihanna didn't start in the streaming era tho and of course has a massive pull of being one of the most popular artists ever. I do agree about the toll in quality tho Just my two cents, but I believe that artists have the industry backing (read: streaming service on their side) as long as they keep putting out stuff as it is easy for Spotify and others to keep playlisting artists that are active all the time. They are like: "oh new Khalid, let's put it on top of our playlist". If Khalid stops releasing, he will be forgotten by industry in less than a year. So it has effect especially for artists without big fanbase and faceless dance acts. just a quick additional thought to add here, but I believe this is the end result of labels not having the desire and/or capacity to take the time to help their artists properly brand and grow a genuinely interested fanbase. When you are playlist dependent you are just riding off a passive audience with a short attention span. It's a bummer that Khalid is an example of this because a large reason he did become successful was because his team successfully groomed a streaming audience for him, which allowed him to thrive even without a lot of radio support. But now his latest single is completely missing from Spotify's top 200 and Apple's top 1400 It's like he's a brand new artist who has to start from scratch again.

Yeah fr, people gotta stop overreacting to this stuff. While I'm disappointed with how Take My Breath is performing so far (bc it's a legitimately great song), I think it's far too soon to call it a flop. My guess is that it'll stabilize down the line and probably end up having a Heartless type run, Although I do agree that Abel should have waited until 2022 to start his album roll out. Yeah, I agree with basically all of this. By releasing TMB now with the same overall sound as AH, it feels like an extension of the AH era rather than the beginning of a new era. Like a one-off single, a soundtrack single, or a deluxe-album single type thing. And yes, The Weeknd singles often have LEGS and only peak after a long time - see The Hills, Blinding Lights, Save Your Tears. But I don't wanna make confident predictions here. After all, I predicted that "In Your Eyes" would be a HUGE smash and frankly still don't understand how it wasn't. Still my favourite AH song by far. It’s because it’s an extension of AH… He literally said The Dawn is a continuation of it. We might not get the album until October-February so TMB does have room to grow which it will.

Imo it's just cause most stuff he put out after 2018 was watered down and kind of bad? Like, listen to Better vs his post-Talk singles and hear the difference. He needs to stop chasing Talk and go back to his roots.

Anyway, sorry to double post but Doja's on fire right now? Need To Know is over 1m on Spotify, and Get Into It (Yuh) is top 50 - giving her six top fifty songs. Kiss Me More, Need To Know, Ain't Shit, Woman, You Right, and now this.

The title track, Better, and especially Saturday Nights - my personal favorite Khalid track - those tracks, along with Saved from his debut and both of his collabs with Alina Baraz, he's way better in R&B than pop

And yet he still is doing a fair amount of pop--witness his recent collab with Tate Mcrae.

I don't disagree although tbh my biggest gripe is that he never learned how to sing live, but I've seen some fanbases carry their faves through worse output tbh. It is kind of dicey though bc the type of fans who will support you even when they're not entirely in love with your music are also the type of fans who are usually very obsessive and toxic and that's not exactly something most artists would want either.

I don't know of any obsessive Khalid fans, though. I happen to like a fair bit of his music but in a chill, relaxed kind of way.

There are some people who might take that kind of request personally. It took me months to get my account approved and I wouldn't want that period to be lengthened any longer because there were concerns about allowing new members.

^Just look at ATRL. I remember before I was on Pulse, I would lurk on there (for like two years) and read the chart discussion. I always wanted to create an account there but they would never open up. Even though we can be batshit crazy at times, at least we're actually willing to allow new accounts. Pulse shouldn't be a digital gated community.

Maybe we need a probation period for new members (tho rather than making it time-based, make it post-based - probation until you hit 100 posts or something).

I think we should be generous when it comes to allowing new people in, but also vigilant about dealing with the crazies when we find them. That seems to be fair, that one could have a probationary account to prove oneself mature enough to engage in public discourse about music.

In the Popheads discord, you aren't allowed to post photos and any links you send won't load until you hit Level 20. You "level up" by posting regularly, being a part of the community and talking to people. There is the occasional troll or spammer but they're banned with in literal seconds

It took me a couple of months to get my account approved on ATRL in 2011, and about 4 months to get my account approved on Pulse in 2019.

I don't know when dovaduck was trying to get on ARTL, but it is quite possible that it was far after the time when you got on in a couple of months.

With the tracking week ending on Thursday, it’s going to be an interesting race. I wouldn’t count out Kiss Me More getting 2-3 more good updates to sneak out the radio #1. With Levitating setting a new record low for kWorb #1 aud, it will be interesting to see if the #1 drops below 90M kWorb aud for the first time ever.

Are we going to ask for a background check and physical exam next ? Trolls need to be handled promptly by the moderators but it’s not wise to turn this into a snobby elitist boys club where only a selected few qualify . It’s a chart page FFS , it’s not that deep . Take a breath and enjoy yourselves everyone . Someone disagreeing with you doesn’t make them an evil person . Geez

If I'm not mistaken I created my account back in November of 2014, It only took about 2 months for my account to get approved here on Pulse. I used to be a quiet member here on this site I just didn't really know how to engage in conversations and so I low-key rarely posted anything, It's different now however since I now feel comfortable enough to actively post here.

I agree that the mods shouldn't act like this is some sort of premium club that only a few gets selected. If a new user decides to troll and cause trouble, just ban them.

I'm sure the admins can be counted on to look for people who would be suitable mods and can talk about those matters among themselves. This doesn't need to be something that we argue about.

Deja vu's run in the Top 10 has been pretty impressive so far, I expected it to sorta get killed by good 4 u but both tracks managed to co-exist. Olivia is #1 and #2 on pop radio right now, and with traitor on the way it's obvious she's unstoppable this year.
