Does anyone think hyperpop will start to takeover in 2022? First time I've ever heard of it. Based on the artists mentioned in the corresponding Wikipedia article, none of them seem mainstream yet. That said, anything can happen.

Part of me feels like hyperpop has peaked at this point, I donβt see a lot of the excitement I saw and felt in 2019 and 2020 for it anymore. Then again a second gecs album or a new artist could blow it back up and make it exciting again and it could have its real mainstream break, you never know

I don't think hyperpop is ever gonna be mainstream, there's no crossover appeal

Does anyone think hyperpop will start to takeover in 2022? takeover? no. greater presence? yes. elyotto's "sugarcrash" became the first hyperpop song to chart on the Hot 100 or Bubbling Under chart this year, and I expect more hyperpop songs to gain that type of visibility in the next year. a takeover suggests a heavy cultural presence, and I don't see that happening unless Doja Cat collabs with AG Cook its such a bizarre genre that it doesn't seem feasible. its interesting to even talk about hyperpop because there is much diversity in it - like Tony Velour, Hannah Diamonds & 100 gecs are all considered the same genre?!

^Mostly due to TikTok. She has already manage to chart 4 songs in the UK's Official Singles chart. In the US, she has 2 songs charted so far in the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charted both which have peaked at #30 so far.

It just sucks to see the great streaming numbers of Heat Waves get absolutely wasted because alt radio decided to drop it way too prematurely. It also sucks to see the format push Arcade despite its horrible streaming numbers. If Heat Waves had Arcadeβs radio numbers, it would be easily in the Top 10. Eh, Heat Waves isnβt good so it doesnβt really suck that it alt radio dropped it.

Heat Waves was a big hit on alt radio, though. It hit #1 there and is still top 20 with recurrents 37 weeks after entering the top 20. It was pop that dropped it after scraping the top 15, but that was over 2 months ago when the song was already nearing recurrency. It was due for recurrency on pop on June 27th.
Heat Waves is just a bizarre case of the song doing well on streaming for having no airplay late last year, getting airplay early this year, naturally peaking on airplay and falling, and then for some reason its streaming is still just as strong if not stronger now. The timing between the two is just a strange disconnect. We see disconnect in peaks between streaming and airplay all the time, it's just usually the other way around. And for what it's worth, its pop callout scores were never that good anyway.

Imo, Heat Waves is the definition of a grower, so I can understand it not having great callout scores. (Then again, callout scores aren't everything) - it wasn't instant, but I now really like it.
and I feel like this lowkey invented hyperpop, I wish Gwen could give me some more of this (or literally anything, she's only released 1 non-Xmas solo album since 2007 π€§)

I think you are mixing up Alt with Pop .

As if it wasn't already apparent that Billboard has been sucking up to BTS for the past 3 months, now it looks like they're announcing a partnership of some type. Lovely.

For anyone wondering if Billboard will change their weights on sales, I think this confirms they know what they've been doing and won't change anything. Lol I can't believe they partnered up for something.

Bilboard's credibility sinking faster than the Titanic. BTS 100 coming soon. I wish Gwen could give me literally anything She did release two singles this year. Both of them are campy messes though.

I wonder what will it take for the Rolling Stones chart to replace the Billboard Hot 100 because at this point, I'm ready for that.

Despite its falling on radio and AM, BL is somehow predicted to move back into the Top 20 next week: I still stream BL a few times a day.

I've never been this excited on a LNX release. And also "What I Want" is a bop!

A BTS chart ranking the members each week by number of tweets.
Or making k-pop a regular genre chart for the US.

^ Making a k-pop genre chart for the US is a terrible idea because BTS will be #1 forever, they will allow no other group the ability to crossover then they will spam any posts by chartdata with "BTS PAVED THE WAY!"
