"The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry has led a worldwide initiative over [2014/2015] to get the entire world on the same music release day (Friday) in order to standardize chart performance" so, why would you handicap yourself by not doing that tbh πΏ
But I guess the most ridiculous/wild case will always be Anti, for which the first "week" counted as only 20 minutes (but we love the biggest increase from first week to second week in history!)

Azealia Banks calls Donda garbage and βmusic for hedge fund brosβ πππ Ironic, considering that Azealia Banks is pretty much the female Kanye West. thatβs what makes it more hilarious

So the Globgolgabgalab is featured (well, sampled) on Remote Control by Kanye West and Young Thug, so it's about to have a Hot 100 entry lmfao
Anyway, I'm rooting for Hurricane, Jail (not Jail Pt. 2) and Believe What I Say to do well on the charts. It's a bit early but still.

With Donda releasing and CLB on the horizon, it seems this may be Blinding Lights final week on the Hot 100

91 weeks is a bit odd to go off on, as one more week wouldβve made it exactly 23 months on the charts, but regardless it took 2 of the most anticipated and controversially discussed albums of the year for BL to die and if the 25/52 rule never existed, it wouldβve still survived. But hey we still got SYT, TMB, You Right and now Hurricane to focus on so weβll be fine.

Will any of the featured artists receive credit on Billboard? They're still not credited as such on any streaming platform.

Especially as a Martha Wash stan, I Hate when featured artists aren't credited (especially on the entire album!). The last time I even remember that happening is with Avicii's albums. Kanye has given feature credit in the past tho...
"The Globglogabgalab is one of the supporting characters in the critically panned 2012 Christian allegorical animated film Strawinsky and the Mysterious House." omg tho, lol. "critically panned" indeed, it has a 1.11 on Rate Your Music.

There were no credits on TLOP, so who knows.

{tl;dr - just going by commercial success as a barometer for whatll be remembered down the line is silly} So the discussion last night made me think about how we measure longterm success and memorability in regards to art and just out of curiosity since there still seems to be a connect people are making between commercial success and what people will remember in 3 months/years-times, I went ahead and looked back at what were the biggest albums of last year, removing any albums that appeared on previous year-ends. Here's what the Top 20 Albums were:
1. Lil Baby - My Turn 2. Roddy Ricch - Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial 3. Harry Styles - Fine Line 4. Taylor Swift - folklore 5. Lil Uzi Vert - Eternal Atake 6. Pop Smoke - Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon 7. The Weeknd - After Hours 8. Juice WRLD - Legends Never Die 9. Luke Combs - What You See Is What You Get 10. Various Artists - Frozen II Soundtrack 11. Bad Bunny - YHLQMDLG 12. DaBaby - BLAME IT ON BABY 13. BTS - MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 14. Eminem - Music to Be Murdered By 15. Justin Bieber - Changes 16. Halsey - Manic 17. Drake - Dark Lane Demo Tapes 18. Trippie Redd - A Love Letter to You 4 19. Rod Wave - Pray 4 Love 20. Rod Wave - Ghetto Gospel
Using another metric though, this was Rolling Stones' top albums, this time with the units sold that Rolling Stones thankfully provides (again omitting any album that made previous lists) 1. Taylor Swift - folklore (2.3M units) 2. Lil Baby - My Turn (2.1M units) 3. Pop Smoke - Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon (2M units) 4. The Weeknd - After Hours (1.9M units) 5. Juice WRLD - Legends Never Die (1.9M units) 6. Roddy Ricch - Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial (1.7M units) 7. Luke Combs - What You See is What You Get (1.7M units) 8. Harry Styles - Fine Line (1.6M units) 9. Lil Uzi Vert - Eternal Atake (1.4M units) 10. Bad Bunny - YHLQMDLG (1.3M units) 11. DaBaby - Blame It On Baby (1.2M units) 12. Eminem - Music to Be Murdered By (1.1M units) 13. Halsey - Manic (974K units) 14. Jhene Aiko - Chilombo (939L units) 15. Drake - Dark Lane Demo Tapes (930.3K units) 16. Justin Bieber - Changes (919.8K units) 17. Polo G - The GOAT (865.3K units) 18. Rod Wave - Pray 4 Love (852.9K units) 19. Pop Smoke - Meet the Woo 2 (852.8K units) 20. Gunna - WUNNA (814.9k units)
Now legacy is a bit harder to measure admittedly but in my opinion, the closest measurement for legacy is discussion. Discussion can be tricky to measure as well so please take this with a hint of salt, again, legacy isn't exactly a concrete measurement. Hashtags and shares can easily be highjacked by stans which would make this list nothing but k-pop and pop acts so instead, which is why I'm going with what were the 25 most reviewed albums of last year based on AOTY and RYM reviews and ratings. And I'm not using Metacritic because that site is prone to review bombing and slander campaigns for various such as movies and games so I'm avoiding it. The purpose of this is to find a barometer of discussion that wasn't prone to any attempts of manipulation. Here's the list I ended up with:
1. Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters (21,420 ratings) 2. Charli XCX - how i'm feeling now (19,314 ratings) 3. The Weeknd - After Hours (17,919 ratings) 4. The Strokes - The New Abnormal (16,316 ratings) 5. Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher (15,757 ratings) 6. Run the Jewels - RTJ4 (15,578 ratings) 7. Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia (15,103 ratings) 8. Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats - UNLOCKED_ (14,248 ratings) 9. Mac Miller - Circles (13,929 ratings) 10. Yves Tumor - Heaven to a Tortured Mind (13,592 ratings) 11. Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA (13,480 ratings) 11. Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure (13,105 ratings) 12. Playboi Carti - Whole Lotta Red (12,918 ratings) 13. Tame Impala - The Slow Rush (12,911 ratings) 14. Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist (12,620 ratings) 15. clipping. - Visions of Bodies Being Burned (11,499 ratings) 16. Taylor Swift - folklore (11,145 ratings) 16. The Microphones - Microphones in 2020 (10,745 ratings) 17. Against All Logic - 2017-2019 (10,505 ratings) 18. Grimes - Miss Anthropocene (10,216 ratings) 19. King Krule - Man Alive! (9,470 ratings) 20. Gorillaz - Song Machine Season One (9,377 ratings) 21. Lil Uzi Vert - Eternal Atake (9,167 ratings) 22. Ichiko Aoba - Windswept Adan (9,106 ratings) 23. Perfume Genius - Set My Heart on Fire Immediately (8,310 ratings) 24. Fleet Foxes - Shore (7,666 ratings) 25. The Avalanches - We Will Always Love You (7,600 ratings)
Now this list could obviously change. Both sites refresh weekly so overtime it's possible new albums may be rediscovered while noteworthy albums at the time may be slowly forgotten. And I'm also not saying commercial success isn't a factor that should be ignored when talking about an albums success. Ultimately the point I want to prove are two fold:
1. It's a nuanced discussion and that it can't be simply boiled down to commercial performance. 2. In the age of the internet, streaming, and forums, everything is less centralized so just going, and everyone resides within their own bubbles. You might not here the biggest albums of last year but that might also because you've but yourself in a circle/bubble that allows you to not hear about them.
And by the by, this isn't just for music by the way. The same thing can be observed in films. In 2019 here were the highest grossing movies: 1. Avengers: Endgame 2. The Lion King 3. Frozen 2 4. Toy Story 4 5. Captain Marvel 6. Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker 7. Spider-Man: Far From Home 8. Aladdin 9. Joker 10. It: Chapter 2
And here's what the most reviewed films of the year were, based on Letterbox (again, avoiding sites like iMDB and Metacritic to avoid any campaigns for score manipulations) 1. Avengers: Endgame 2. Joker 3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 4. Parasite 5. Us 6. Captain Marvel 7. Midsommar 8. Spider-Man: Far From Home 9. Marriage Story 10. Booksmart

I was asking because I know none of the artists who contributed to TLOP got credited. I think some artists who contributed to ye also weren't credited as first but were down the line, so we'll see what ends up happening, I guess.

Songs from Donda are still climbing on the AM chart. I can't recall this happening for an album bomb past the 12 am update on the day it was released, even for other albums released mid-day. Last night at 12, the album had the top 18 on the chart, now it has the top 20. Really impressive stuff.

yeah. It looks like she doesn't care about Halsey, she just wants to shade Kanye. That's exactly what she's doing and that's why it's tacky. Iβm not an advocate for music artistsβ in general, but I donβt see the problem here. She supported an artist she already supported in the past (she promoted Finally // Beautiful stranger and MANIC in the past) + she always promoted her friendsβ music (she did it with Griff, Halsey, Camila Cabello, Selena, Conan Gray, Olivia Rodrigo etc.), so I donβt see why a tweet of her got yβall bothered π₯²

Kanye is currently charting 43 songs off Donda in the top 50 of the US AM chart. As far as I know, there's only one version of the album available (clean version). I checked Kworb and there seem to be 27 Donda songs charting.

Azealia Banks calls Donda garbage and βmusic for hedge fund brosβ πππ Ironic, considering that Azealia Banks is pretty much the female Kanye West. I donβt think Kanye West is nearly as direct, forthright and outright discriminatory and abusive as Azealia Banks is/has been, even at his peak. Heβs certainly had his moments (and some of them have been crass) but Banks has literally burned bridges with almost of her peers and is on survival mode with the few messy twitter stans she has left. Could Banks even get two of the features West has on his album to feature on hers? π Now, musically, well... She is very talented.

So, in the span of 2 weeks, we would have gotten 3 albums by 3 major artists all released without a single beforehand. I wanted Drake to push some singles first but I could get with this happening more often.
