Finally, a song that Chaka Khan took to the top of the soul chart in 1984. It was one of two songs he had offered it to Patrice Rushen, but she turned it down.

Rise - Herb Alpert
Finally, one of the biggest hits by this Motown legend, peaking at #4 on both the soul and Hot 100 charts (his first solo Top 10 on the latter chart). It was notably covered by D'Angelo in 1995 and by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis in 2000.

OK. I'm guessing this was not my finest guess. Really outside of two songs, the rest of the songs hitting #1 were pretty stellar IMO.

Damn, I thought I was being harsh to Still with my #17 ranking.
Brick House, Lady (You Bring Me Up) and Oh No are my go-to Commodore songs. If you've never seen "the Last American Virgin", the song Oh No has been seared in my brain with that clusterfuck of a movie ending.
