20 Still (19): yeah, Iāve never gotten into this one. Not bad, just forgettable to me
19 Aquaboogie (20): Iām sorry but wtf was this? The most bizarre # 1 in this list and my clearest bottom of the barrel. Never heard it before this RD and wonāt hear it again
18 I Got My Mind Made Up (17): Another first listen. Nice groove especially in the chorus but the overall melody is kinda weak.
17 I Wanna Be With You (18): Another discovery. This is miles better than my # 19 but the melody was a bit forgettable to me, even if the instrumental was cool.
16 Disco Nights (8): Awwww. I do remember this tune but I hadnāt heard it in a long time. Itās got a strong melody, solid vocals, good instrumental. Whatās not to like? Btw, Kon Kanās I Beg Your Pardon (a song I really liked in ā89) sampled this in its bridge.
15 Reunited (14): This was a hit back home, with some recurrent airplay in retro radios. I like its smoothness and sexiness overall and vocals, but I liked other songs much more.
14 Bustinā Loose (16): Another discovery. Itās got a cool instrumental but I wasnāt too fond of the melody.
13 Do You Love What You Feel (12): I discovered this song thanks to Pulse just a few years ago. I like it quite a bit. It sounds very Earth Wind & Fire. It was just a matter of liking other songs a bit more.
12 Ladies Night (2): ohhhh nooo!! This is one of my favorite Kool songs. A big hit back home, and a song I still like listening once in a while. I love the multiple hooks, and how it changes the mood from groovy to party in the second chorus. I also think it does a great job transitioning from disco to 80s dance pop.
11 Knee Deep (13): A very interesting and cool discovery. I like the more modern, adventurous sound, free flow, and some cool background vocals. This song started another layer of songs in this RD, as I liked it much more than my 14
10 Aināt No Stopping Us Now (11): Nice discovery! Love the chorus especially -instrumental, melody, vocals. Very much capturing the smooth, elegant but energetic vibe of this type of disco music.
9 He's The Greatest Dancer (7): This one before WAF? Nope, nope. This is much better in my ears. The riff is of course gold, the chorus instrumental (strings!) and vibe as well as overall melody are strong.
8 We Are Family (10): Yes, itās a classic, and itās good, but I think the verses are a bit weaker than Dancer, plus that piano hasnāt aged as well as the Dancer instrumental.
7 Ring My Bell (3): Iāve loved this song since I was a kiddo. A big hit back home (Toca Mi Campana) with good recurrent airplay. The production is top notch and captures the essence of disco. The melody is super catchy including the funny ding dong ding Aaaaahhhh. Still love it, and wished it had performed at least better than a song by a certain beloved artist. Btw, this may be one of the most randomly covered songs, from the New Jack Swing version by DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince, the 90s alt version by Tori Amos, the 90s techno version by Black Nero (that received airplay in Peru), and even a Spanish rock version by Danza Invisible).
6 Bad Girls (1): oh noooo!!!!! āChicas malasā is one of those songs I have the earliest memories of dancing as a kid -I have the 45 RPM. The āchu chu pi piā was a favorite part as a kid
Years later I understood what it really meant and I liked it even more. With Hot Stuff these are definitely my favorite Donna songs and amongst my favorite dance songs ever. I love her vocals that give the song an edge, and the party but dynamic instrumental, including the almost Latin flavored last minute. One of the biggest songs of the decade in Peru with great recurrent airplay, and one of my favorites as well that I still use.
5 Got to be Real (9): Another strong song, although not as popular back home as the other 4 below. Pretty good but it didnāt have room in my top 7 due to how much more I liked the other songs.
4 I Wanna Be Your Lover (15): Iām not that familiar with this song, but I wasnāt overly impressed with it either. I mean, he has created amazing, unique songs, but this isnāt one of them to me. The sound is much more modern pop for 1979, and itās overall catchy, but to me itās just not on the level of the rest of songs I ranked higher.
3 Good Times (6): My 7-3 were all very close. All great tunes. I love the main melody and instrumental of GT, although I like Le Freak a bit more. Another song that brings back good childhood memories. I also appreciate how influential this has been in dance/pop music for many years.
2 September (4): Another big hit in ā79 with good recurrent airplay in Peru. EWF had a few great songs and this one was amongst the best. Great melody (in all its parts), hook, instrumental, and vocals.
1 Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough (5): A solid classic that was a huge hit back home. Also have the 45 RPM. I still love it, but I loved it a bit more in the 1900s.
Thanks
Soulsista for another great rankdown!!!
