Not bboat11 dragging Kathy Mattea like she's somebody's basic aunt while simultaneously stanning for the musical stylings of Tenille Arts who sounds like an Olive Garden waitress who identifies as a singer because she does karaoke every Wednesday night at a bar named The Musty Snatch with her girlfriends Becky and Karen. I happen to also LOVE Tenille, but this made me cackle!!! Not the Musty Snatch 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Goin' once, goin' twice...this will be the FINAL LAST CALL for the Kathy Mattea Icon Rankdown! I was hoping to add at least one more participant so that we could make it to double digits, but alas that isn't looking like it's going to happen. Nonetheless, I'll keep this open until officially closing it off tomorrow evening. Participants:1. castleoblivion26 2. Kanenrá:ke 3. tim 4. ccarter1023 5. someguy 6. .indulgecountry 7. taylor 8. Merry Christmas Eve everyone! My apologies for the delay in getting around to the this, but the 2000 country rankdown was a bit all-consuming and I wanted to get through that one first. Now that it's done, it is time to jump into this! I'm going to start off with the bottom 5 (well, actually bottom 6) songs first.

"Christmas Collage" is a 5-carol medley that was recorded for Kathy's second album of Christmas Music, Joy for Christmas, and released in late 2003. It likely comes as no surprise that one of the first songs out is a holiday tune whom four of you ranked last including Kanenrá:ke, ccarter1023, taylor, and Kris Kringle. Despite some support from myself and someguy, this always a contender for the bottom 2. I knew going into this that this song was always likely to be the first one out, but I wanted to make sure to include a couple of her holiday songs considering that I'm not doing hosting a Christmas rankdowns this year. I myself really enjoy this and have played it a handful of times already lol.

"You've Got a Soft Place to Fall" was released in May 1984 as the third single from her self-titled debut album for Mercury Records. Despite an initial top 20 from castleoblivion26, this also remained a contender for the bottom 2 for much of its run and even dipped back into last place for a moment. Kris Kringle becomes our first participant to lose a top 10 with .indulgecountry following in his footsteps with a top 15. Also, Cody Wants Out... loses his last place.

"Mary, Did You Know?" was recorded for Kathy's first album of Christmas music, Good News, which was released in late 1993. The album would go on to win the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album. This was the second holiday tune I included as I remember seeing the video on CMT quite a bit during the holiday season of 1993. This did manage to escape the bottom 2, however, as it picked up a top 10 from someguy as well as a top 15 from taylor. It also helped that this didn't receive any rankings for last place. That said, five participants did rank this in their bottom 3 which prevented it from escaping the bottom 3 altogether.

"Walk the Way the Wind Blows" was released in September 1986 as the second single and title track from the album of the same and was Kathy's second Top 10 hit at country radio. Despite making it into the top 10 early on in its run, this quickly settled back into the bottom 5 where it would remain for the rest of the time. Three participants lose a top 15 including Kanenrá:ke, castleoblivion26, and taylor. I myself lose a last place ranking as this has always been one of my least favorite singles from Kathy's discography.

“Right Out of Nowhere” is an album track I selected to include which was released in September 2005 as the title track to her third studio album for Narada Records. I thought this would be a good album track to highlight as it also does mention Christmas. I was hoping that this would escape the bottom 5 as it looked like it might, but it ended up moving back just a couple of spots in the end. Another top 10 loss is incurred this time from taylor with three others losing a top 15. While no one put this in their bottom 2, both castleoblivion26 and bboat11 did put this down in their bottom 5.

“God Ain’t No Stained Glass Window" was released as the final single from Kathy's self-titled debut album but failed to chart at country radio. This comes in as our fourth most polarizing song which also takes our first #1 ranking from Kris Kringle as well as a top 8 from bboat11. Five others also placed this inside their top 20 with castleoblivion26 putting it just outside of his top 10. Holding this one back were two bottom 5 rankings from .indulgecountry and ccarter1023 as well as a last place from someguy.

Well, to be fair to Kris Kringle most if not all of the songs were discoveries for him. I had to twist his arm to do this so that I could at least make it to ten participants lol .

"A Few Good Things Remain" was released in November 1990 as the second single from Kathy's compilation album A Collection of Hits and reached #9 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Unfortunately the losses continue to stack up for taylor as they lose their second top 10 ranking here alongside Kanenrá:ke who loses his first. Two others including myself ranked this in our top 15 while Cody Wants Out... loses a bottom 3. I'm glad to see that this at least didn't leave in the bottom 5 which it missed by a mere two points.

"Asking Us to Dance" was released in October 1991 as the third single from Kathy's sixth studio album Time Passes By and was a Top 30 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. This in fact did dip down into the bottom 5 towards the last half of the rankdown only to be saved in the final moments with a second top 10 ranking from Kris Kringle. He was joined there earlier in its run by Kanenrá:ke who actually loses his first top 5 here. Not everyone was a fan of this, however, as it picked up three bottom 5 rankings including a last place from .indulgecountry. I was on the fence about including this song if only because it was a minor Top 30 hit, but in the end I just felt like it was too good of a song to leave out as it's one that I adore. While I knew it would likely be a more polarizing song, I'm glad to see a handful of you enjoyed it.
