Adele vs Taylor would've been 2020s "Justin vs 1D" (2010s) and "50 Cent vs Kanye" (2000s). But since stan wars became more toxic now, good it's not gonna happen. Taylor would've lost regardless anyway. Adele isn't doing anything less than 500k. Yup. Even if the Red vinyls ship and she doubles what Fearless did earlier this year, Adele would still win imo. Smart move from TSwift.

Taylor moving Red TV forward a week looks good for an Adele release on the 19th.
I still think it's funny how she moved Fearless vinyl release back and Red TV forward just so she can go #1 lol..

I'd do it too tbh. The re-releases are an easy way to pad her total #1 albums. And we know she likes her charts.

Nobody has to pretend like My Universe is the most popular song this week just because you want to be the rational one in the room who is being totally objective. It's fine to admit this song is a total non presence that will have no cultural impact and the vast majority of people in America will never hear, just like they never heard Life Goes On or Permission to Dance. It's fine to admit that a few thousand people are deciding your charts every week. There doesn't have to be a cute middle ground perspective on everything. Not a lot of #1s have "cultural impact" (whatever that means, and there's likely not a way to measure that). The vast majority of people in the US don't hear really any song. The best-selling and streamed songs of all-time were not heard by the vast majority of people. And if you want to continue the "fine to admit" thing you're doing, it's also fine to admit that what a lot of people seem to want in reality, including you, is for the Hot 100 to be a copy of the streaming chart. What's wrong with a streaming chart? Hell I would take the number one on a radio chart more seriously than a BTS number one on the Hot 100.

Literally none of these 5 BTS songs (And soon to be 6 BTS songs because of “My Universe”) that have gotten to #1 on the Hot 100 including their multi-week #1’s “Dynamite” and “Butter” have ever felt like the biggest song here in the US. Case in point “WAP” always felt like a bigger hit than “Dynamite” and “Good 4 U” always felt like a bigger hit than “Butter”, If it wasn’t for these BTS Stans constantly mass buying their songs I’m betting that none of those songs would have gotten anywhere near the Top spot. Like others on here have said before I’m hoping that Billboard finally takes action and stops counting these mass purchases. It would be interesting to see how the post-UGC #1’s would have looked like if mass purchases didn’t count. It’s pretty obvious there are songs like The Scotts, Stuck With U, Trollz, Franchise, Life Goes On, and Permission To Dance, possibly several others, would not have been #1’s.

LTDO and Up (and maybe) Wap would also gain weeks if mass buying was disallowed and sales returned to normal.

The problem isn't BTS debuting at #1, because when they release a single, it does, most of the time, feel like the biggest thing that week. The issue is them keeping that spot because of scummy tactics for months That happens to comeback singles like Dynamite or Butter only. LGO, PTD and this will not get the same week-after-week mass buying treatment. This song will probably be an exception because it's a coldplay track, and radio has already hopped on it. I disagree with the bolded part because except for the 2 comeback singles (which has legitimate itunes downloads & youtube views to back it up first week), everything else did not generate the same kind of "mass" consumption but just a few folks keeping the song afloat. ARMY is huge, and they support BTS on the first week. But the small minority that keeps those songs afloat is giving the base a bad name, which is something i don't like.

Kinda funny that the thing that's actually making me believe the Adele rumors after all this time isn't actually anything Adele has done but something Taylor Swift did lmao

Billboard #1s aren't what one "feels" like the biggest hit is. I've heard "WAP" literally once in its entirety, and that's only because I listen to almost every song that charts. That doesn't mean I don't think it shouldn't have been high on the charts once the controversy dropped for it. There's no way to measure the feelings of chart watchers and implement that on the charts. What's wrong with a streaming chart? Hell I would take the number one on a radio chart more seriously than a BTS number one on the Hot 100. That's an arbitrary exclusion over a band and/or chart metric you don't like. Radio, streaming, and sales all have ways to be manipulated. Radio is in fact, one of the most transparent in industry manipulation, with country radio being the most clear indicator. And while the sales further down the line may be dubious, it's pretty obvious a lot of the first week sales are legitimate, and there are a lot of BTS fans in the states that would buy their music in the first week, if their tour numbers have anything to show for it. You can just ignore the Hot 100 and look at the streaming chart if you prefer.

It’s no different with a lot of Drake #1s either tho. Fancy Like has a larger cultural impact than a handful of Drake #1 songs, BTS songs, etc.
It’s more about timing. A lot of times #1 songs just have good timing. I’m not a BTS fan cause they’re mostly a crappy boy band but I’m psyched Coldplay will get another #1 song and it’s a legit good song imo. But…I can also be respectful of the success BTS has had. Whoever writes their music makes some catchy pop songs even if I’ll nevvvvver listen to them.

Dynamite was in a commercial so more of the general population heard it.

Lol no increase on Spotify for My universe despite the premiere of the music video..the flop of the year will be #1 on hot 100.without the sales the debut would have been lower, not even in top 15.. Billboard is a mess cause they still allow this thing

Seems like My Universe might miss #1. I think the song being on Coldplay's store rather than BTS's hindered some of the mass buying. It ended up with only around half of the website sales that they needed.

If way past its prime Butter somehow beat out a Stay that was very close to its streaming peak, no way does a BTS song on its debut week lose out to the same song four weeks later.

STAY the real hit is gonna stay at #1 Then why does Stay still need its iTunes discount after all these weeks? Keep in mind, this is the tenth week of the discount. LTDO got criticism for its sales gimmicks, but even by that point, it no longer had the discount.

Just a friendly reminder why Take My Breath has peaked on radio.
And why Stay is still gaining.

It's crazy to think that The Weeknd is constantly in the top 10 most heard songs on the radio for 20 months now (since 01/25/20 - Heartless' 1st week in the top 10).
Ofc, if we don't count that Xmas week when BL went recurrent, but it still was in the top 10 on kworb, and it re-entered at #8 next week.
