Cold Heart is looking like it might outpeak all of the songs it interpolates. Yep! It's already surpassed "Kiss The Bride" (no. 25) and is only 3 spots behind "Sacrifice". It would be amazing if it outdoes the no. 6 peak of "Rocket Man".

Sunflower reached 100 weeks on Hot 100 Recurrents, which means there are two songs with 100 or more weeks there. The other one's Perfect.

Speaking of Sunflower, it was the only song to be on both the inaugural and final RS 100 chart. It spent 119 weeks on the chart.

^ It's rare at any time, but increasingly so as radio has become more stagnant, although in pre-Soundscan days it didn't seem like songs debuted very high on radio either. Kind of hard to say because the Hot 100 Airplay chart only started in 1990, so I don't know what the highest debuts were like on the various airplay charts that existed before then (Billboard's Top 30 airplay chart, Radio & Records, etc.).

^ Playlist-driven airplay charts prior to 1990 had very low debuts for a number of reasons, primarily slower communication.
I recall red hot Elton John debuting at #17 with a highly anticipated first single in the 70s. Same with Bee Gees in the mid 20s; The biggest, most highly awaited first single of the 1980s (MJ's first Post-Thriller song - after a massive wait (like Adele) - only came in at #28 Billboard airplay)
Erotica always seemed fishy to me - an incredibly Radio-Unfriendly song, day-parted (meaning it got very low airplay during the morning / afternoon hours due to its content), following up just weeks after an underwhelming #1... Seems like it could have been a big payola situation.

As of rn weβve dodged a bullet with Life Goes On (though it could also totally come back and get huge) I might be the only person who likes this song, lol.
Looking at the trajectory on the UK singles chart, its starting to descend (went from 34-37-40) and that pattern is likely to be seen here as well. Even as someone who likes the song, it makes sense - the hook is catchy and that verse-to-chorus switch up is pretty cool, but the hook definitely wears on you after a few listens.

Erotica is definitely an outlier when it comes to these high-airplay debuts, and that is putting it charitably.

I used to like the song, but the hook killed it for me after a while, the same thing happened to Meet Me At Our Spot, and now I canβt stand that one either, except instead of the hook itβs Willowβs singing.

Life Goes On did just get 20 adds at pop radio, donβt celebrate yet Iβm not worried. Those adds do not change the fact that Fancy Like is in the best position to sneak in a week at #1 before the holiday season.
