Billboard Top 10 Flashback: October 28, 200616 19 Maneater - Nelly Furtado Between the no.1 Promiscuous and another no.1 Say It Right, somehow the big worldwide hit, Maneater stalled at no.16 in US? Maneater was however the lead single of Loose for the most countries, mainly in Europe. I'm not sure, was it properly promoted as the 2nd US single on radio? Or did it chart on its own with good digital sales but no radio support?

Yes, it was the officially-promoted 2nd U.S. radio single, but for some reason just didn't take off as much as Promiscuous and Say It Right. Actually, those two were also very big overseas, as was the fourth single, All Good Things (Come To An End), which did even more poorly than Maneater. That era was pretty big for her, but even bigger overseas.

Actually, those two were also very big overseas, as was the fourth single, All Good Things (Come To An End), which did even more poorly than Maneater. That era was pretty big for her, but even bigger overseas. It was odd, wasn’t it. Maneater was big in Canada too, from what I remember (tho cancon helps) but it was looking like Loose was going to be an era of one big hit and a minor follow up and that was it. Say It Right definitely saved the era and I think was probably even bigger than Promiscuous (though in hindsight, Promiscuous is certainly more memorable). All Good Things was another really good song but it flopped. Then she had another minor hit with a Missy remix of Do It. In God’s Hands got a Keith Urban remix. It also got a lot of airplay in Canada. Not sure if it did anything on any format in the US - it didn’t on pop anyway.

Yes, it was the officially-promoted 2nd U.S. radio single, but for some reason just didn't take off as much as Promiscuous and Say It Right. That's not true because "Maneater" wasn't properly pushed as a radio single in the US, despite it reached at #16 on the Hot 100. The story behind "Maneater" was that it received unsolicited airplay between August and October of 2006, hence the reason why it peaked at #24 on Pop. After the massive success of "Promiscuous", US radio was eager to put her second single on rotation, but Geffen was waiting to send a new song from her instead. This happened because there was a rivarly between "Promiscuous" and "Hips Don't Lie" to see which track was going to land atop the Year-End Pop chart, so Geffen opted to maximize "Promiscuous" chances instead of pushing a new single. As a consequence, because of the lack of information of a new single by Nelly Furtado submitted from Geffen to radio stations, some of them began to play "Maneater" as 'the new (US) single' and they picked that because of the split release it had with "Promiscuous" overseas. "Maneater" had a good reception at radio during these months and there were a couple of new stations to be on board, but in an unprecedented turn of events, Geffen killed their chances, pushing "Say It Right" at the end of October with a TV performance of the song at the AMAs next month. They even requested radio stations to stop playing "Maneater" in favour of "Say It Right".

Kiss Me More managed to hang on for one more week in the top 10. I guess it probably blocked Need to Know this week from reaching the tier.

Way 2 Sexy’s chart run so far: 1-2-3-4-4-5-6
I wonder if it’ll slowly descend down each position in top 10.

Glad Dua has #2 most weeks in the top 10 to herself, but yeah, she’s got year end #1 locked up so I think it’s time for it to go. All 3 of them have other new singles so that’s what makes it extra annoying.

Tbh Easy On Me holds the unofficial record for biggest jump in my eyes lol.
All the other songs were due to charting with solely airplay then they actually were fully released in the following weeks.
Easy On Me is the only one that was officially released for consumption in every component both weeks. I guess only being available for a few hours in the prior week is kinda a similar situation though.
What song has the biggest jump to #1 that was like actually released on every component and had two entire full weeks of tracking?

SAD! jumped 52-1 and was officially released on all components both weeks with no partial week.
I guess I would actually view that as the biggest legitimate rise to #1 instead of just a staggered full release like all those other songs.

This is huge for Nigerian acts. Tecno Mobile — an android mobile phone company, is MASSIVE in Nigeria and each of their phones comes with Boomplay preinstalled. Expect to see more Nigerian songs debut on the Hot 100 moving forward.
