People have been complaining about the "credibility" of the Grammys since at least the early 1990s, perhaps even earlier. Yet here they still are getting major media coverage, discussion on these boards, and appearances from big music names (not to mention labels doing FYCs and such). The early 1990s coincided with the Milli Vanilli debacle. I wouldnβt be surprised if that was the event that started the questioning of the credibility of the Grammys. Correct, that was a big blow for them. But so were things like Tony Bennett winning AOTY. That's when the committees were put in place. My point is simply that the Grammys have survived all of this "credibility" talk for literal decades, yet remain the most relevant music awards show.

The moderators have already told you guys that there is a Grammys thread. Why are you insistent on terrorizing the people in the charts section with Grammy nonsense when we obviously are not trying to hear it?

So this is going viral in the UK, is climbing up the alt/rock charts, can we also make it go viral so it becomes a Top 40 on the Hot 100? Omg thank for sharing, this track is amazing. Fingers crossed it can become even bigger.

Wow, Stay is a near lock to break this record. Only way it doesn't is if the radio decline picks up very quickly. Eh, it's about to get forced out by the Christmas songs, & afterwards probably won't rebound to top 3

Eh, it's about to get forced out by the Christmas songs, & afterwards probably won't rebound to top 3 Looking back at this, Iβm amazed that Drake dropping CLB is the only thing keeping Stay from having a continuous run in the Top 5, and even then, it only dropped to #6 that week. If Stay remains in the Top 10 through the Christmas freeze, it should pass Circles 38 weeks in the Top 10 to begin its run.

"One Right Now" shaping up to be the biggest underperformance of 2021.
It's actually quite amazing how often the public immediately disregards superstar collabs *specifically* meant to chart well. Taylor/Ed/Future, Eminem/Beyonce, Mariah/Whitney, Britney/Madonna, Ariana/Bieber (we know how that song did without sales tactics), Shakira/Rihanna, etc.
Most of the time these songs don't even do big numbers out the gate either before stalling. I think for the most part big name collabs don't attract GP's attention the way a label perceives them to.
Even when they actually do become hits they still end up pretty forgotten and overlooked down the line majority of the time. Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney, the two biggest men ever in music, literally have a #1 collab on the biggest selling album in history. You think that would be a setup for like the biggest classic ever, yet even then that song is the least remembered single on the album and feels incredibly forgotten.Β

Yeah, two massive A-listers collaborating is usually a recipe for long-term disaster if they don't remember to make the song memorable/good. Meanwhile, if it's a collab between an A-lister and a B-lister (Sunflower, WAP, Stay, etc.), those usually have a much longer shelf life.

It is interesting how big collaborations aren't really big in the grand scheme of things. Another collaboration that wasn't really big here in the States is "Telephone" by Gaga and BeyoncΓ©. You would think something like that would have been a huge #1, nope.
But then you have something like "The Boy Is Mine" by lower tier stars, Monica and Brandy. I think the best and biggest collaborations come from smaller artists or a mix of tiers.

Telephone was well received compared to some of the other examples. It even eventually rose to the top 3.
Dua Lipa x Elton John is a recent example of a collab done well although in that case nobody expected it to be a hit. Sheeran x Bieber was also a big deal.

Like Gikem said, I think it boils down to song quality. People certainly listened to One Right Now, it got the exposure it needed to take off, but it's a meh song so people aren't coming back to it. The same could be said for the other big collab songs brought up

Telephone wasn't a #1 hit but I'd say it was pretty successful overall otherwise. In no way would I put it as an underperformer at all, especially if you consider that it would have been measured as a bigger hit if Billboard tracked video views when it came out.

I don't think it boils down to quality imo. I think sometimes, songs don't click for whatever reason.

Can't Remember to Forget You, a classic, did eh in the US but globally is one of the biggest videos for both of them.

ORN disappointed me so much. Weeknd and Post are capable of so much more than the measly half-cooked mess that ORN is. I dont come back to it at all and when I do my experience is ruined by the awful lyrics. Who thought putting an awkward line about sex on a wall that you broke your hand on was a good idea?? It's sad as they're two of my favourite artists but still when compared with singles from Post's other eras it just falls short, massively.

I think we can safely say that Post peaked at Hollywood's Bleeding. I just don't see him ever top that album. Hell, I don't even see him even touched half of the success he had during his past 3 era (Stoney, B&B, and HB) ever again.

^ I wouldn't write Post Malone off just yet but he's a very singles-inclined artist and after some considerable time away, he returned and so far, he's 0/2 with his singles. I'm sure him and his management are worried why the songs aren't connecting and doing well like usual.

This new song by The Weeknd seems to be taking off. Currently #15 on Global Apple Music. I wonder if it will become a big hit in 2022 π€
