Off topic, but do we all see the 2022 Hot 100 chart as another replica of 2020 and 2021 where Billboard had 17+ songs that hit #1? as long as BTS stans still exist and Billboard keeps refusing to make necessary formula changes, then sadly yes Given how weak the charts are, even without BTS they're probably still be a lot of #1 debuts in a year

I could talk about the weeks at #1 Stay lost early in its run due to the Butter mass-buying thing, but drem would talk about how I'm gaslighting. But the fact that Stay is still this massive more than 20 weeks into its run is really unprecedented for such a massive debut. Even Shape of You showed signs of decline at that point in the run. that didnβt answer my question Okay, the real answer to the question is that it would have been Stayβs 10th week at #2 (and 17th overall week in the Top 2). If I really wanted to open Pandoraβs box, I could argue that Stay should have been in the Top 2 just about every week of its run. Here are the weeks it missed the Top 2: First 3 weeks: BTS mass buying 9/18: CLB 11/27: All Too Wellβs gimmicks

Drake firmly deserved the top spots that week. Stayβs a massive hit- but saying itβs robbed of number one by ATW and CLB is no different than saying it was robbed by Easy On Me too- it just wasnβt the biggest song in the country those weeks even if it was big

But itβs only stupider that Olivia stans are the only ones that harp on their missed weeks at #1 (and even try to claim some weeks they donβt even deserve). I get weeks 2-8, but after that, Stay was released, and was just bigger than G4u.

Except Stay was stuck below Good 4 U its first three weeks so it's clearly not true.

If Olivia stans want to claim weeks 9-12 for G4u at #1 (after Stay was released), then I can certainly play this game too (although I honestly think this is stupid). But itβs only stupider that Olivia stans are the only ones that harp on their missed weeks at #1 (and even try to claim some weeks they donβt even deserve). I get weeks 2-8, but after that, Stay was released, and was just bigger than G4u. I wish you no harm and hope you have a good life, but how can you be SO wrong about litcherally everything??

We did win the Super Bowl recently. And yes, it was less of a fluke than All Too Wellβs week at #1, considering we made the playoffs the following 2 years after the Super Bowl win.

Could Adele's airplay help her get an 8th week over the Christmas songs?

Could Adele's airplay help her get an 8th week over the Christmas songs? Probably not. I think one of the Christmas songs (AIWFCIY or RATCT) will take over #1 this week.

I hope it'll be Brenda's. MC already hit #1 and will do so in the future. Let another legend hit that milestone.

I know Pandora (and a bit of Amazon as they have stations) are "programmed streams" because the service chooses the songs, but how are streams from playlists counted? The service creates those playlists, but I don't think they are classified as "programmed." Why not?

If Mariah gets too many weeks at #1 and it continues for too many years, it could start to backfire and people will really grow sick of it (I mean many are already massively sick of it). In fact I could see them trying to actively suppress its performance because of this, and she probably doesn't want her main legacy to be known as the "Christmas Queen."

I'm not sure, I would think (and it would make sense) that if the playlists are created by the streaming service, it would be classified as programmed because the user didn't directly choose all the songs, but if the user creates the playlists, then it's on-demand.

In fact I could see them trying to actively suppress its performance because of this, and she probably doesn't want her main legacy to be known as the "Christmas Queen." I don't think the general public knows if it's #1, how many weeks at #1 it has, etc. I could see Mariah running the risk of overkill, but I think she's definitely embraced "Queen of Christmas." It hasn't hurt her legacy either; she still has a lot of non-holiday songs with great streaming, and even not including "AIWFCIY" she is the most streamed artist of her contemporaries. Yeah that makes sense to me, too, but I didn't know if that's how it's actually done.

I hope it'll be Brenda's. MC already hit #1 and will do so in the future. Let another legend hit that milestone. I agree. If Mariah gets too many weeks at #1 and it continues for too many years, it could start to backfire and people will really grow sick of it (I mean many are already massively sick of it). In fact I could see them trying to actively suppress its performance because of this, and she probably doesn't want her main legacy to be known as the "Christmas Queen." nah, she 100% embraces it Attachment Deleted

Mariah knows the general public has only given her any attention recently because of her Xmas stuff and she has wisely leaned into that. Even that year when she fumbled her NYE performance, it was technically press related to her Xmas promotion. Her album Caution wishes it had 1/10th of the press she gets from the holidays.
And on a worldwide basis it's not even close. She was never as big internationally as her humonguous US numbers, but AIWFCIY is hitting new highs for her on other markets every year.

I know Pandora (and a bit of Amazon as they have stations) are "programmed streams" because the service chooses the songs, but how are streams from playlists counted? The service creates those playlists, but I don't think they are classified as "programmed." Why not? I'm not sure, I would think (and it would make sense) that if the playlists are created by the streaming service, it would be classified as programmed because the user didn't directly choose all the songs, but if the user creates the playlists, then it's on-demand. I completely disagree with this premise. Mariah has 4 other songs that have spent more weeks at #1 than AIWFCIY. People donβt tend to βget sickβ of Christmas classics, hence weβre hearing the same songs essentially our entire lives. Mariah going #1 is very on brand for her and I think with her heavy promotion (Apple, McDonaldβs, social media, etc) no other Christmas song will top her.

It would be cool if Mariah/Sony supressed sales or something to help get Brenda to #1. I know that is not something that would normally be done as it's all about revenue but poor RATCT seems like it will be stuck at #2 forever. But stranger things have happened.

The year will be 2058/59 and All I Want for Christmas Is You will top the charts for the weeks of 12/21, 12/28, and 1/4.

I think a good portion of the general pop-music consuming public definitely knows it's number one, it was one of the most widely reported #1's I can think of, obviously because of its special significance (on top of most Hot 100 #1's already being widely reported). I see many disagree with me, but I just think if it continues ad infinitum for like 10-20 more years or something, the achievement will get stale, and there will be this eyeroll-type reaction with the headlines being like "Yes, Mariah is #1 yet again this Christmas!!" And yes, I know right now she has no problem being the queen of Christmas and obviously she has fully embraced it, but I think decades from now and especially after she dies, I don't think that's what she would want to be mainly remembered for. She literally has 18 other #1 singles alone and practically a dozen other multi-platinum albums.
