The entire top 87 are nothing but christmas songs. This is getting more scarier every year but it is funny to see the non christmas songs get a taste of what its like at the bottom for a few days before they all most likely skyrocket back to the top 30.

Holiday music is a concentrated thing; about 5 weeks worth of listening (at most) to a limited set of songs. That's different from non-holiday music that you can play any time and with new songs getting released each week, and of course so many songs that have existed for decades. I'm just saying holiday music is an outlier.

Holiday music is a concentrated thing; about 5 weeks worth of listening (at most) to a limited set of songs. I believe that also making holiday music an outlier is that unlike new music, where I imagine that in most cases listeners actively seek to play specific songs, with holiday music they often just put on a playlist or ask Alexa "play Christmas music," without seeking out specific songs. Not all the time, of course, but I would think that's what a lot of people do when seeking holiday music to play in the background. It's the equivalent of turning on an AC station that switched to holiday music in November; it's a more passive listener than is normally the case with streaming. I'll admit I don't have any data to back this up but it seems like this might be the case.

Playlisting might also account for some of the fluctuations in chart peaks from songs outside the heavyweights that peak high every year. For instance, it seems like this year "Run Rudolph Run" will peak much lower than #10, where it did last year, and "Mele Kalikimaka", which got to number 36 last year, seems like it will miss the Hot 100 entirely this year, and is much lower on the Holiday 100 this year than last as well. I'm guessing that both got on some high-profile playlists last year but were replaced with other songs this year. I don't know this for sure, but it seems like a decent explanation.

Neither feel quite like a #1 hit, but not much else is contending for the top spot rn so I'd be content. I Hate U's a nice, slow winter jam so I'd be okay with that taking the crown too. Then there's Super Gremlin, which is trash outside of the first 30 seconds, so I'm not exactly rooting for that one

Interesting that they decided to release the Encanto soundtrack over a month after the movie first came out. We’ll see if the couple of songs from it that are showing up on Spotify and iTunes manage to debut this week.

Btw I assume most people who follow kpop are already aware but for those not in the know, SM (one of the bigger kpop labels) just announced an all-star girl group who will release their debut on Jan 3

Given the names attached how weak the charts are around the world right now, honestly expecting them to debut atop the Global charts (even with two days of tracking lost)

We can complain about the sound and/or lyrics of abcdefu all we want, but I have to agree that the single art is by far the worst part about the song.

They released the movie to Disney+ on Christmas Eve.

An iTunes discount isn't really the way to do that; even if it jumped 2-3k in sales, that's not even equivalent to 1 million streams lol
