22. Bootzilla - Bootsy's Rubber Band

Born in Cincinnati, William "Bootsy" Collins got his start as a member of The Pacemakers with older brother Phelps "Catfish" Collins and future Spinners member Philippé Wynne. Soon after they were hired as James Brown's backing band The J.B.'s. Then came his association with George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. It was during this time that Bootsy formed the offshoot Bootsy's Rubber Band. Their biggest hit, "Bootzilla", topped the soul chart and helped their Bootsy? Player Of The Year album go gold.

These extras are by the singer from Boston who helped usher in the disco era. First, her hit from the movie Thank God It's Friday. It topped the disco chart and peaked at #5 on the soul chart and #3 on the Hot 100. In addition, it won a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

Next, a song written by Jimmy Webb and first recorded by Richard Harris in 1968. Donna's version ten years later topped the Hot 100 and disco charts and peaked at #8 soul. It also garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and helped her become the first female artist of the rock & roll era to have the #1 song and album in the same week.

20. Three Times a Lady - The Commodores

"Three Times a Lady" is one of the biggest hits by this band from Tuskegee, Alabama, topping the soul, AC, and Hot 100 charts. It also hit #1 in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and Britain, and is a staple at weddings.

Lionel Richie was inspired to write the song after hearing his father's toast to his mother at their wedding anniversary party. He intended to give to Frank Sinatra, but when he played it for producer James Anthony Carmichael, he insisted that Lionel keep it for The Commodores. "Three Times a Lady" received two Grammy nominations, for Song Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Perfomance By a Duo Or Group.

Conway Twitty covered the song in 1983, taking his version into the Top 10 of the country chart.
