Formed in Vallejo, California, they were originally called Project Soul before changing their name to Con Funk Shun. Their breakthrough hit came in the fall of 1977 with the release of "Ffun". It topped the soul chart and reached the Top 30 on the Hot 100, becoming their biggest hit.

Believe it or not, their version is actually a cover. One of the song's writers, Mick Jackson (no relation), released his version a few weeks before The Jacksons released theirs. His version peaked at #61 on the Hot 100.
"Holding On (When Love Is Gone)" was the first release from their album Togetherness. It was their third and final single to top the soul chart, and helped make Togetherness their only album to go platinum.

Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, "Got To Get You Into My Life" was first recorded by The Beatles in 1966 and released as a single from a compilation album ten years later. Earth, Wind & Fire recorded their version for the soundtrack to the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. In addition to topping the soul chart, it also peaked in the Top 10 on the Hot 100 and won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists. It was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance By a Duo Or Group.
