Gunna seems to be opening better than The Weeknd on AM (or is it a glitch) I'm not sure were you're looking. Checking out both Apple Music US songs or albums (this via kworb) I'm not seeing anything new from Gunna. I see the album at Apple Music and I see it is #3 at iTunes. The Weeknd's album is #1 at AM. AM is glitching, like they usually do Friday morning after a big release(s) drops. Earlier this morning Gunna was #1 on Albums and flooded the song charts. Now he's N/A on both charts, which is an obvious glitch.

The Weeknd's album is a bit underwhelming? The highs aren't anywhere near the highs of his last album. "Blinding LightS"/"Save Your Tears"/"In Your Eyes"/"Heartless" and "After Hours" are all miles stronger than anything on Dawn FM. Granted some tracks may grow on me a bit more.
The tracks I like the most are:
"How Do I Make You Love Me?" "Take My Breath" "Sacrafice" "Out of Time" "Less Than Zero"
Given how "Take My Breath" underperformed, I'm really not sure if any of the other tracks will manage to become big hits. Although he'll likely have strong streaming numbers so a few tracks will likely go top 10.

I guess we'll see if they fixed whatever glitches they had earlier.

Apologies for the late news. I haven't been in a very good mood for the last two weeks honestly but I'm a lot better now. A reminder to everyone to take care of yourselves mentally and physically and to never be ashamed to reach out for help. Whether that be professional help or if you don't have it yet, family and friends. It's better to ask help early than to wait for mental anguish to be too overwhelming later.

I guess its the Dawn theme but these songs seem to be missing something in it or maybe I'll need a few more listens.

Thinking about it a little more, honestly what I expect at the moment is for Sacrifice to have the biggest debut but end up having a run somewhat similar to Take My Breath, while the whole time Less Than Zero sticks around for weeks until it's eventually pushed as a single (and then maybe Out of Time becomes a late album hit? But who knows)

So, how many top 10 hits are we getting from Abel's album? 2, 4, 6? without seeing initial numbers, my gut says "Take My Breath" (No. 6) + 1 or 2 debuts this week. a 3rd/4th Top 10 hit I could see happening down the line, but I am doubtful he will have 3 (or more) debuts in the Top 10 this week.

The charts are really weak right now compared to when TMB was initially released and the singles from After Hours are a lot more calmer now so he could go for 3 top 10 debuts but then again he’s never seemed to do that for his last 4 projects, but he’s bigger than ever right now so it’s literally unpredictable.

He could've pushed the album for commercial reasons also to get a shot at #1 with Sacrifice (like Heartless, since there's no major competition at the moment except for Easy On Me but that's fading) and then naturally start pushing Less Than Zero by mid-to-late-March already as the Blinding Lights. It worked once, so who's to say that he shouldn't do it again?

Just gave most of the tracks on Dawn FM a quick listen and honestly I have to say I'm rather underwhelmed, they mostly just seem like outtakes from After Hours and poorly imitating the 80's style he's been doing lately, and Less than Zero is nowhere near a standout for me as most of you are saying, but I want to give the album a full listen with my undivided attention before I pass full judgement.

Gunna's album is now #1 on AM with 5 songs in the top 10, 11 songs in the top 20 and 18/19 songs in the top 50.
The Weeknd's album is down to #2 with 2 songs in the top 10, 4 songs in the top 20 and 15/16 songs in the top 50.

I may end up being wrong about this but I just don't see how dawn FM or it's singles end up being nearly as successful as After Hours and it's singles.
There were clear standouts on After Hours that you knew could become smash hits if pushed properly but I can't find 3 songs like that on dawn FM.
Take My Breath didn't do any damage as a single so that's done. Sacrifice might perform better but I doubt it'll be some killer smash either and I don't see any other song off the becoming a smash hit later into the era, and yes, that includes Less Than Zero.
Maybe that was a conscious choice on Abel's part but dawn FM clearly lacks a lot of the oomph that was very present on After Hours.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all ends up turning out.

Odds look good for that Jessie Murph song. It’s been in the 50s on Apple Music for a bit, and the Spotify entry & increase look promising, plus the fact that she’s a well known TikToker.

Yea AH did super well particularly because Blinding Lights had taken off already when the album came out. It was #2 the week before and climbed to #1 on the album release week. Take My Breath is not even charting right now.

Ed is doing lots of stadiums in Europe and the ticket price is pretty low. Love to see both Billie and Elton on the list, I have tickets.. just hope the tours take place though.

It's pretty impressive that I listened through the whole album and came away with maybe three hooks that stuck with me, the songwriting on Dawn FM is a clear step down from everything Abel made before it. The concept and production turned out great, but the songs are incredibly empty and lack in any memorable moments. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say nothing off this album will become a hit, especially when Take Your Breath is the catchiest song on the album and that flopped pretty badly.

I feel like people are more focused on potential hits from the Dawn FM, than on the album itself. Yeah, it's always great to have hits, but maybe he just doesn't care that much now? This is a similar situation as Ariana's Positions, they both have more than enough hits already and if they feel the need to release something they like or enjoy, let them.

This is a similar situation as Ariana's Positions, they both have more than enough hits already and if they feel the need to release something they like or enjoy, let them. I agree but this discussion is literally about the hits from the album. I think this might be Abel's last album with commercial performance in mind. I fully expect him to take a break for a year or two after the tour and come back as an album-driven artist (in the sense that the album as a whole will be what drives his commercial success, not the singles). This is a huge step in that direction. While After Hours was great, it lacked the cohesion of this project and, I won't say that it was all over the place since the album was extremely solid, but it did have much steeper lows than Dawn FM (with the highs, Faith and After Hours, being only moderately higher than the peak of this album, Less Than Zero). This on the other hand is a full universe. It is still commercial with obvious single choices, but it is a full, complete and immaculate product, his best body of work since Kiss Land (that crown was previously held by After Hours) and pretty much the perfect pop album. A 9/10 for sure. It does however seem like Abel had to restrain himself in certain parts because he knew that he had to make the album appealing enough to the general public to make that double-album tour the real tour de force that it is meant to be, and to really cement himself as the current king of Pop. I expect that after he returns from his break he'll fully commit to an album that is fully, first and foremost and pretty much exclusively an artistic experience. That was what he was doing in the Trilogy and Kiss Land eras, and I think he'll return to that type of music. Not in terms of the music's substance or sound, but in the sense that it is meant to be enjoyed in whatever way the listener intends to enjoy it. Trilogy, while being 30 tracks long, in my opinion had only two songs that could've been actual commercial smashes if promoted right, and that was by chance. Kiss Land had none. What I'm basically saying is that the old Abel will be back - not the character, but the person who could make eight-minute freestyles (Gone), stories that basically lasted half an album (Montreal-Outside-XO/The Host-Initiation) or epics perfectly describing the psychology of a character, like Kiss Land. Why? Because he really won't care about how those songs perform commercially, since they're first and foremost parts or sections of an experience, or experiences themselves. Back then it was because he assumed there was no way that they could blow up, and now it'll be because he really has nothing to prove anymore. To reach that level, though, he just needs "that" album, something that'll be a goodbye letter to the hot 100, top playlists and radio stations, and that is Dawn FM. It's the dawn of a new era of The Weeknd, but that era is still yet to come. Even if it's encroaching on the horizon.

Biggest tours of 2022 so far. How is Ed still so big despite having fallen of with sales Overall, he's still doing very well even though it's a dropoff from Divide. He's had two major top 5's from this era lol. Plus, he seems to be doing better internationally, and touring revenue doesn't always equate with current success. Many artists who had previous massive success or who are legacy acts can still tour with huge numbers.

I don't see any obvious hits on the album either. Possibly Less Than Zero. There's not a single song on Dawn FM that would make my top 5 on After Hours, maybe not even top 7

I definitely wouldn't rank dawn FM 9/10, yet alone call it a perfect pop album just because it seems more like a complete body of work from The Weeknd.
Forget hits, many songs on the album are extremely weak lyrically and go nowhere sonically. They blend into each other and at certain points, it feels like you're listening to one overly-extended song.
The album is bookended by an intro/outro which features Jim Carrey's voice and helps drive home it's FM radio station aesthetic but there are countless other albums that have used a similar aesthetic and have done so a lot better and more creatively than is done on this album.
The featured artists were a wrong choice because they did nothing to elevate the respective songs they appear on.
And probably most important for ANY album — standout moments — there simply aren't enough of those. I can't pick out 6 songs from dawn FM I can see myself revisiting a week from now, yet alone years from now, so yes, while it may be a pleasant listening experience for some people when playing the album front to back, overtime, you stop listening to an album like that and you only revisit the songs which represent memorable moments and on dawn FM, more than any other album The Weeknd has ever released, moments like that are sorely lacking.

Dawn FM first song impressions & review
Take My Breath: Unfortunately it's true. I'm afraid we've already heard the best song off the album Sacrifice: Definitely 2nd best. Great song, I hope it does well Is There Someone Else?: Fun & catchy Out Of Time: Pretty Best Friends: This got stuck in my head a bit after just 1 listen. Potential earworm?
Not even songs: Dawn FM (this one's cool tho), Every Angel, Tale By Quincy, Regret By Jim. I get he's treating this album like a concept, but I don't like that 4 "songs" aren't even songs... like couldn't these have been grouped together or something?
The rest all blend together into a forgettable mush of 80's synths and beats. While certainly cool sounding, he's completely worn this style out. Throwback songs are okay every once in a while, even better when they combine old styles with new styles, but it feels like Abel's litcherally stuck in the 80's. You know the theme's tired when Lil Wayne & Tyler's verses are like breaths of fresh air.
Overall, the album's not bad. Contrary to what I expected, it's not rushed either. His vocal deliveries are heartfelt and production's squeaky clean. He definitely had fun with the creative theme, but took it a bit too far. I don't even think the 80's theme is the main problem. The problem that ultimately dooms this album is OVEREXPOSURE!! Abel really should've waited at LEAST half a year or so before releasing again.

I personally got bored listening to Dawn Fm and stopped after 9 songs that seemingly could have been just one long tune. might give it another shot tonight but I also think it’s a clear step down from his last record.
