After taking a short break away from hosting, it's time for the next Lost Hits rankdown to get underway! Just like with the 1979 list I have selected 50 of the highlights from 1978 that missed the year-end lists to be represented here. When ranking the songs, if there is any other version/remix/edit that you prefer other than the one in the Spotify playlist, feel free to rank that version.

This rankdown will follow the same format as the Lost Hits rankdowns that I've hosted in the past. If you've participated in any other rankdowns you know how these work. Just listen to all of the songs and rank them from 1 (best) to 50 (worst) based on your personal preference. PM me your list, and I will compile everyone's rankings and present the results. i always find it odd to rank songs that charted many years after they were released ... i mean who in their right mind doesnt like these Beatles songs? ... but they aren't 1978 ... do i lower their rank because of that? haven't decided yet

Wow, there was some incredibly eclectic music in the late 70's that was making the charts...

Outside of my #50, which I didn't like at all, the rest was pretty good. Top 30 was very solid. Some really good discoveries.

Love pretty much everything by the Alan Parsons Project, but Pat Benatar's "Don't Let It Show" blew theirs out of the water. Both Billy Joel songs were among some of his better. There was something funky/catchy enough about Boz Scagg's "Hollywood" that made me add it to my playlist. The Charlie tune was pretty good, not as good as the song on the current 77 rankdown which I really enjoyed. Celebration (Mike Love's) "Almost Summer" was pretty catchy for a throwaway hit. I don't know what to think of the Cat Steven's "Was Dog A Doughnut", someone had to record the first electro/technopop song - I'm not surprised it was slightly odd.

Finally, if you haven't seen the movie Foul Play (Goldie Hawn/Chevy Chase), it's one of my favorite comedy/action movies from the 70's. It also has probably my favorite cheesy song ever "Ready to Take A Chance Again" by Barry Manilow. We all have at least one embarrassing song we enjoy. I have more than one, but this is probably one of my most embarrassing. The movie is great!

Finally got through all the extras. Some good stuff and a couple not-so-interesting finds as well. It's Over, while not my favorite ELO song, is a good one (did not know that interesting Mr. Blue Sky connection!). Elton John's Ego was a great find. Fotomaker's Mile Away actually sounds miles away from 1978, sounds more mid 80's to me (not bad!). Can't believe Heart released Crazy on You (an awesome song that only went to 35 a few years prior) and it stalls out at 62, that's nuts! Hotel's song sounds like the theme to a very depressing movie, but they pull it off quite well. Jefferson Starship is very hit and miss, IMO. More miss than hit. Karla Bonoff is more than a Linda Ronstadt substitute, she always sounds good and this song captures her voice beautifully. I Love KC and the Sunshine Band, but that was a pointless remake but Wrap Your Arms Around Me makes up for it. And K Rog! You really can't go wrong with decent K Rog...

And of course there's Since You Been Gone, the Head East version.  The first of 3 versions that made the top 100 over 2+ years.  Head East's was good but nothing compares to Rainbows. Not a big fan of Cherie Currie (and sister)'s duet that barely hit the Top 100.  Though the S. African girls group (Clout)'s version is pretty cool (and it predates Rainbows version by a year).
