Sorry for the delay in sharing comments!
An overall pretty good list, with a good number of all-time personal favorites, which may not be everyone's cup of tea, so I'll be ready for some discrepancies. I'll share comments precisely on songs where my ranking differed the most from the final results,
48. Run for Home (37): This was a nice discovery to me. Elegant instrumental, nostalgic melody, warm vocals. Simple but effective.
46. Lights (24): A classic. I've always liked this classic rock tune from Journey. Vocals, harmonies, guitar solo, all sound good to me.
45. Greased Lightnin' (20): Grease is the first movie I remember watching in my childhood --and I was a fan of Travolta's image and dance moves :) I have the 45 RPM of this one, which I've always liked. I think it sounds pretty good melodically, musically and vocally, despite its Broadway feel.
44. Rivers of Babylon (6): OH NO!!!! I've always liked this song. One of several Boney M songs I've liked and a song that has had some recurrent airplay in Peru -although not as much as Gotta go home, Ma Baker or Rasputin. Still, a great melody, cool tropical/disco vibe and nice vocals. I still vibe whenever I listen to it.
42. Where Have You Been All My Life (27): A great discovery. Another song with the type of simple but effective melody, instrumental and harmonies --BUT I don't get that creepy cover!
36. Wonderful Tonight (15):OH NO!! My top 15 includes unforgettable classics. A song I've heard since the 80s at least, and that it's always connected with me. Background vocals help it sound even more magical.
35. Time for Me to Fly (13): This is just a simple, classic rock tune, that's kind of the father of similar 80s rock ballads by this band -and others. Sounded great in this list to me.
34. Substitute (16): This sounded like an Abba song, with that melodic piano and harmonies. A lovely discovery that I liked more with every listen.
33. Macho Man (17): VP were quite popular in Peru, and this song was one of their hits. This is still a bop to me now. Catchy, and the guy can sing.
30. Let's All Chant (5): Awww. I remember hearing this song in the late 70s/early 80s and then nothing else, but then I heard it again only in the late 90s when I bought a compilation CD. LOVE it. That chorus is as catchy as it gets, the instrumental as fun and eclectic as I like i for this kind of song. Great Italo disco representative.
28. Long, Long Way from Home (45): This was a first listen that I tried to get into. I like the melody and energy in the verses, but then the chorus is a big letdown, and the synth effect kinda cheapens it to me.
27. It's Late (11): I don't recall hearing this before. Initially I was ranking it in my 20s, but after my last listens I got hooked. Now I think I got overexcited and over-ranked it. Should've remained in my 20s.
25. More Than a Woman (2): Mmmm :'( I love the Bee-Gees' version, but I like this almost as much and in some occasions even more. Both were huge hits in Peru, and songs I remember hearing and dancing to in my childhood :)
24. Hot Shot (3):
Oh, well. I might have played the 45 RPM of this song more than any other 45 RPM in my life. It had two versions, both a bit longer and with more horns than the version in the Spotify playlist. The B side had a longer instrumental bridge. This is one of my all-time favorite disco songs - period. Those verses are as catchy as you can get, and always put me in a great mood. I've danced to this since I was a kiddo, and played this to get pumped up far too many times. I guess I'm happy this at least made the top half.
21. Ça plane pour moi (44): Nice little song. Had I liked the guy's vocals been a bit more, I would've ranked it higher. Even if it was a bit repetitive, it was FUN.
19. Runnin' with the Devil (39): The instrumental was great and the production made it sound more 80s than 70s. I just didn't like the melody that much
Not a memorable discovery.
18. Rockaway Beach (31): Another nice little song, but this sounded stronger, catchier and better sung than the French one to me.
16. Soft and Wet (29): This sounded even more 80s than the Van Halen's song. I liked the melody a bit more, but not as much to put it higher than #29 in such a stacked list. I'm not surprised it ends in the top 20. I feel sometimes Prince gets an easy pass in these RDs...
12. Josie (38): I liked this much more than the song in the 1977 Rock RD, but I still couldn't rank it higher. I guess I'm just not a big fan of the melodic twists of their songs.
11. Breakdown (45): Another discovery that didn't do much to me. Neither melody nor vocals were that appealing, and I couldn't recall how it went even after I finished the RD. Like Prince, I also think sometimes he gets easy passes...
10. Supernature (14): Great discovery! Loved the I-Feel-Love, space disco kinda sound, with hints of classical music. Love the vocals, too. With a bit stronger melody, this would've made my top 10.
9. Trans-Europe Express (35): I totally appreciate their influence and how visionary they were. For that reason, I really wanted to give this discovery a fair chance, but I found it too repetitive and unnecessary long. Don't mind seeing them in the top 10, though.
8. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/With a Little Help from My Friends (7): Two undoubted classics that still sound cool.
7. Fantasy (1): With time, this has become my favorite EWF song. Strong melody, instrumental (especially the combo of strings, percussion, horns), and vocals (harmonies are smooth and lead vocals that go from suave to soaring).
6. Psycho Killer (4): Great showing for one of TH's best songs. I only discovered this one in the 90s, but I've liked it ever since.
5. As (8): I discovered this song thanks to George Michael & Mary J Blige's cover, which I really liked --but the original is better. Even though it's a bit long, the instrumental bridge and the ad libs make it less draggy to me.
4. Mr. Blue Sky (28): I don't think anyone in Peru would call this their signature song. They had several big hits over there, but probably Telephone Line is the biggest. I like them a lot. I like this song, too, but it's not in my top 15 ELO songs.
3. Everybody Dance (34): I probably could've ranked it a few spots higher, but as you can see I preferred other type of disco songs that were a bit more intense and powerful. This ended up sounding a bit too bland in the end. Far from the magic of Good Times or Le Freak.
2. Blame It on the Boogie (10): A classic deserving of a top 10, for sure. Another song I've always liked. Big Fun's 1990 cover was also a hit in Peru, but the most famous cover is Luis Miguel's Spanish version Sera que no me amas.
1. Lovely Day (21): Despite my ranking, I don't mind seeing this at the top. It's a cool song, and a classic in its own right -even if just for that long note! And sometimes it's good to see a dark horse winning, and even better if it's someone like Bill Withers. Even if it's not my perfect cup of tea.
Thanks
rowellfarm490 for a great rankdown!! Enjoyed this quite a bit!!
