Was...that last sentence supposed to be a "gotcha"? If so, this is like the weirdest insult I've seen in a while.

dremolus - solarpunk I don't even get the point of the tweet. Are they trying to say they're okay with the misogyny in rap music so long as the men perpetuating said misogyny are deemed attractive/charming by women? The tweet says a whole lot without really saying anything. If it was just the usual: 'rappers were better back in the 90s', it would've been whatever. Dumb oldhead shit, nothing new. But like to diss people just because...they're addicts with social anxiety? I think that says more about the person than it does about rappers today

^I generally don't include any songs that have gone recurrent in the Hot 100, unless they actually have chance to re-enter. A few days ago, I remember I would have posted High Hopes if I didn't have that rule.

And there was a day this past week (I think it was Tuesday) when Someone You Loved, released in late 2018, moved up 5 spots. Radio just canβt seem to let go of certain songs.

seriously, will the "music was better back then" crap ever stop π Not unless the music gets better ok boomer. I'd expect a Pulse member to realize it's all subjective. If you don't like current music, that's unfortunate for you

"good music" doesn't necessarily mean the Hot 100 Never has you nailed it. . Plus βgood musicβ means different things to different people . All music is good and we should be happy there is so much variety and access now . How old we are or how old the artist is holds no significance and it shouldnβt

I mean, usually when a rapper has a big personality y'all hate it so...
6IX9INE, Kanye, Nicki, etc have the biggest most in your face personalities.

Obviously there is LOADS of great new music out there. But how many of the new artists feel like big personalities? Not many. Which is what the tweet is originally about. What does it matter though if someone making great music doesn't have a "big personality". You don't really tell someone to check out an artist because they have "personality". Kendrick Lamar isn't regarded as one of the best rappers of all time by being flashy. Not to mention the 90s era of rappers of Vanilla Ice, Mase, P. Diddy, MC Hammer, they had personality but they sure aren't regarded as amazing hip-hop acts, at least not now. But speaking of artists with personalities and followings: Cardi, Nicki, Kanye, J. Cole, Kanye, Travis Scott, Future, Drake, Young Thug, Megan Thee Stallion, you can disregard them all you want as "not being that big" or "not having superstar qualities" but how is it any different than every other generation of artists before them being belittled for not being up to the standards of past artists. Also, if that tweet was about big personalities: wtf does being an addict or having social anxiety have to do with your performative personality?

Most of the artists you mentioned made it big years or even over a DECADE ago. That's like saying Gaga and Ariana are new pop stars lol Only Cardi and Megan can be considered as recent, and perhaps Young Thug too. For instance J. Cole's most popular album is from 2014.
I think we are in a drought of interesting rap stars (look how Roddy Ricch's career just faded in a year for instance because he just couldn't keep people interested). And also pop stars for that matter. And that tweet shouldn't be taken that seriously.
