The only downside is that none are getting attention on their own to go #1. But it's fine overall. Her next lead might be a #1 contender. Kiss Me More feels like a #1 hit to me even though if it wasn’t. I think they're doing a good job ensuring longevity for every song. Even You Right, which has been overshadowed by other songs on the album, has found its footing and is still charting 30+ weeks later. Woman could become a 52 week song considering its nowhere near its peak yet on radio. I remember when this was the next single when the album dropped. People thought this song would heavily underperform, and it looked like it would given that it initially got overshadowed by Ain’t Shit and Need To Know on streaming. Yeah i guess radio helped its stability a lot, but it still did fairly well on streaming and it still is. Currently i think it has a bit of time to be the main focus until Woman comes and surpasses it and then after that song finishes its run, that’s when the era would officially come to a close since i don’t see any other singles catching on.

I wouldn't mind "Woman" being the last single either. she's had a stellar run with her singles (4 Top 10 hits on CHR!!?!), might as well finish off on a high note. I would also love to see "SCOOP" off of MONTERO get a push (and a music video) since "THAT'S WHAT I WANT" is nearing the end of its run.

I don’t think we are going to get anything else off “Montero,” at least not in this current form. Lil Nas X has dropped all promotion for the era since December and even scrubbed his social media accounts clean. Not really sure what to think at this point but it would be a strange strategy to continue with singles after going MIA for 3 months.

All of a sudden, the top of this chart is getting exciting with abcdefu and Ghost being discounted on iTunes. It looks like it will be a 3-way race for #1 between Heat Waves, Super Gremlin, and abcdefu, while Ghost could enter the Top 5. I might just be a grumpy old man (I'm only 25 lol) but I really don't like abcdefu. I get it, it's a song by a teenager, for teenagers, but I can't even enjoy it the way I was able to enjoy Olivia Rodrigo's album. Just my take :/

I had been wondering if he did that so he could drop something major/new at the Grammys, then had to unexpectedly wait longer than anticipated since they postponed the show. It's a bit off topic but I'm curious to know what the leading theories are for his absence?

Tbh I just assumed he's been taking a social media break, and it makes sense considering he basically spent 3 full years doing constant promo on it lol

Just my take :/ Abcdefu is incredibly infantile, for some that's the appeal, for others it's what turns them off. Olivia is much more authentic and raw emotionally, and while it is obvious that she's young and thinks like a teenager, it is just organically more mature

The Levitating lawsuit is kind of hilarious from a chart watching perspective cause the controversy is totally gonna make it chart for even longer

It's a bit off topic but I'm curious to know what the leading theories are for his absence? I think he’s recoding a new album and will probably start the era later this year. Even though the album came out last September, the 1st single was dropped nearly 1 year ago in March. So the era had been long winded even prior to his disappearance. 3 top 10 hits (including 2#1s) off one album is as good as it gets these days. Perhaps he and his team feel it’s better to move on and return with new music rather than spend more time and money pushing already fatigued songs. If they intended on pushing “Scoop” they would’ve already done so by now. Maybe he was the one that decided to turn the lights off because of his well being. We don’t really know what’s going on. But he stopped himself right before the point of over saturation. What ever he drops next will be met with plenty of hype. Maybe The Weeknd should take notes.

I do hear the similarities but also wonder, considering there's eventually gonna be a finite amount of melodies, what are going to be the criterias these lawsuits are gonna have to check to have some sort of merit. In this case that track isn't even available on major streaming sites, so it's hard for me to believe it was intentionally copied.
WB is gonna settle before this gets to court as usual. If g4u eventually settled before a lawsuit was even made I don't see why this one even gets close to a hearing.

Her team added Taylor to the song writing credits early on. In this case “Levitating” has been out nearly 2 years. For them to be added as songwriters now would mean they already missed out on possibly millions of residuals. Especially considering how big of a hit it was.

So yeah, no lawsuits in Olivia's case.

I imagine these writers on the indie/reggae song also similarly approached Dua Lipa's representatives hoping to get some royalties and clout, but her team probably didn't find their claims reasonable or legally sufficient, leading them to challenge Dua Lipa in court of law now. I don't think they have a very good chance of proving malintent given the song's streaming performance (about 100 total plays on Soundcloud before the news of this lawsuit broke), as well as literal recordings of Dua Lipa & co coming up with melodies in the song that were used in the Song Exploder podcast episode on the making of "Levitating," which was published in October 2020.

I 100% agree with the first comment on this YT video. "Remember although Dua Lipa may never have heard of Artikal Sound System that does not mean that the writers of Levitating did not. Song writers are constantly borrowing top lines from unreleased records and released records when they sit in on a writing session. More so now than ever due to the amount of music out there. Most writers who lift from acts, hope they can get their cut before anyone notices and hopefully if they lift from a small band, then there is nothing the small band can or would be willing to do. It's gross but common practice in the industry." basically, the less known - the better. and that's why I don't think the number of streams will play a big/significant role here.

^same sound, same beat, same melody, different lyrics. I think the Artikal Sound System will win this.

It's gross but common practice in the industry." basically, the less known - the better. and that's why I don't think the number of streams will play a big/significant role here. there's definitely truth in that statement—stealing from smaller artists is not uncommon in the entertainment industry, whether it's books, songs, movies, and whatever else. however, the band would need to present and establish a credible argument in court that one of the songwriters (Koz, Coffee, Sarah Hudson & Dua Lipa) did indeed hear their song prior to writing "Levitating," which will be easy for Dua's camp to rebut. this is not a "Blurred Lines" scenario where the original song in question is a very popular classic. this case is more reminiscent of that Christian rapper Flame suing Katy Perry for "Dark Horse," where he initially won the lawsuit, but then the jury decision was overturned by the judge, citing "A relatively common 8-note combination of unprotected elements that happens to be played in a timbre common to a particular genre of music cannot be so original as to warrant copyright protection." there's also the inverse ratio rule, which states that "the more an alleged infringer had access to a work, the lower the threshold for establishing substantial similarity." without proving the "Levitating" songwriters' access to/awareness of this indie-reggae SoundCloud song with 100 streams, the similarities need to be airtight and the song needs to be a carbon copy—which I don't believe it is. lawsuits usually follow precedent, and I'm not sure Artikal Sound System's case is much stronger than Flame's was. ^same sound, same beat, same melody, different lyrics. I think the Artikal Sound System will win this. not exactly how this works—there's so much to consider in the technical investigation. it's very clearly not the same exact instrumental or song structure, there's a lot more differences between the two than just lyrics. I could see them settling this privately, but I am highly doubtful the Artikal Sound System can win this in court. we'll see.

WIM isn't exactly the event to launch a new single.

A duets album no one asked for tea... But I think for the next few weeks the hot 100 could possibly have a different #1: Heat Waves, abcdefu and the Dua/Meg collab if the song is good. Dua and Meg collab??? I would love that but where did you hear that was happening cause I can't find anything about it Oh there were people speculating about their social media responses to one another and they are going on tour together with Meg as an opening act but we'll see if it is true. It's been said 3/11 might be a release date and with the low competition, it would be perfect to snag a #1 and Dua brings the longevity so it would be great. Someone even said the video's been shot but I'll guess it's best to wait for an official announcement. I think this month there should be a chance for a few #1s if labels time the discounts/remixes/new releases carefully.

Meg and Dua should launch it at the Grammys, not earlier imo.

Any collab Meg is on is pretty much a guaranteed #1. She hopped on a remix of Butter when that was pretty much dead, and it blocked Stay when it was at its 350+ point peak. (Oh what I'd give to have a song on the chart right now with 350 points, never mind 2 or 3.)

It could've been Crazy Frog remix and it still would've been #1.
