Also I don't really see Sweetest Pie being the next WAP that some people are making it out to be. It'll likely debut in the top 10 and have stability due to it being Dua's new current radio single, but it definitely isn't guaranteed to go to or even moreso debut at #1. Perhaps the video could do something but other than that I'd expect it to debut in the #4-8 range, dip a little and then gradually rise into the top 5 again with radio Yeah, we donβt know how well a song will do until at least a few days after it comes out (and since this is Dua weβre talking about, it could be much longer than that). Weβve seen plenty of βguaranteed hitsβ do poorly, at least compared to our expectations. Iβd love it to do well (theyβre two of my favorite artists), but we donβt know. Everything is so weak right now, so I could see it doing better than Iβm anticipating, but I feel everyone should keep expectations low.

Still think that Gayle has a chance to get the #1 with her EP coming out on the 18th, I don't see anything else from it charting but things are so weak right now that extra boost could be what it needs to get to the top I really REALLY hope Billboard lets Something In The Way chart, you don't see old songs doing THAT well on Spotify very often even with more and more old songs charting there They've allowed Still D.R.E. to chart at #63 this week, which means clearly they've changed their rules about old songs charting (under previous rules it would have been sent to recurrent this week, but now it looks like they'll let it get its full 20 weeks if it makes it that long). So I would think Nirvana should be allowed to chart even outside the top 50 as I doubt they've made 20 weeks with this song. The rule appears to be it needs to be 50+ to renter, but it can fall to less than 50 after that if itβs less than 20 weeks Baby Shark, Still DRE, a couple of songs follow this pattern. So Nirvana would still need to be 50 to reenter

So Nirvana would still need to be 50 to reenter I agree with this. Upon looking it up -- Baby Shark needed #50 to re-eneter but then had a full 20 week chart run including 3 weeks below #50 See old post - below 'Baby Shark' Debuts in Billboard Hot 100's Top 40
1/8/2019 by Kevin RutherfordThe viral children's song, which spawned a dance challenge following the release of Pinkfong's 2016 version, bows at No. 32. Another viral dance challenge has sparked a placement on the Billboard Hot 100, as Pinkfong's "Baby Shark" debuts at No. 32 on the list dated Jan. 12. Some background for the uninitiated: "Baby Shark," whose origins date back decades, is a participatory children's song/nursery rhyme in which singers act out each verse with their hands and arms, from the eponymous youngest member of a family to the parents and grandparents. In 2016, Pinkfong, a South Korea-based educational brand, created its version of the song and a subsequent video that has been the basis for the track's meme status. The so-called Baby Shark Challenge finds participants dancing along to the song and mimicking its commands when applicable, with social media services and the app TikTok among the hotbeds of activity for the challenge. Initially going viral in Indonesia, "Baby Shark" spread globally before entering U.S. waters, beginning with its debut on the Kid Digital Song Sales chart in July 2018. It made its first appearance on the Streaming Songs chart in November. Now, thanks to the song's continued streaming growth as well as the freefall of 23 seasonal titles off the Hot 100 this week post-holidays, "Baby Shark" bows at No. 32. (Given its original 2016 release date, the song needed to accumulate enough chart points to appear in the Hot 100's top 50 before it was eligible to chart, per chart rules regarding older songs.)
In the latest streaming tracking week, ending Jan. 3, "Baby Shark" earned 20.8 million streams, according to Nielsen Music, good for a new No. 16 peak on Streaming Songs. Of that sum, video views continue to be a major driver of the song's success: 73 percent. While the data that feeds Streaming Songs is U.S.-based, thanks to the track's worldwide popularity, "Baby Shark" has attracted 2.1 billion global views on YouTube to date, ranking it among the 30 most-viewed videos in the platform's history. While streaming is the main catalyst for the song's Hot 100 entrance, "Baby Shark" also moved 3,000 digital downloads in the tracking week. It places at No. 2 on Kid Digital Song Sales, which it led for 11 weeks, beginning in September. As previously reported, Halsey earns her first Hot 100 No. 1 as a lead artist, as "Without Me" ascends to the summit.

Thanks to its feature in 'The Batman,' a deep cut from Nirvana's classic 1991 album 'Nevermind' has been surging in streams since the film's release.
Thanks to its feature in The Batman, the latest DC Bat-movie starring Robert Pattinson, a deep cut from Nirvanaβs classic 1991 album Nevermind has been surging in streams since the filmβs release on Friday, March 4, according to initial reports to MRC Data.
The song in question, βSomething in the Way,β appears twice in the film, and also appeared in trailers leading up to its release. The trailer synch actually helped the song debut on Billboardβs charts for the first time in September 2020. It reached No. 2 on Rock Digital Song Sales and No. 45 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales ranking (dated Sept. 5) in the first tracking week after the trailerβs release.
Since the filmβs theatrical release, though, the song has seen an explosion in its streaming numbers, according to initial reports to MRC Data. In the first four days of The Batmanβs release (encompassing Friday, March 4 through Monday, March 7), βSomething In The Wayβ earned 3.1 million on-demand official U.S. streams. That number is up from 372,000 on-demand official U.S. streams from the prior four days (Feb. 28 through March 3). Thatβs a 734% increase over the given period. Its steady growth also helped it crack the top 5 of Spotifyβs Daily USA Top 50 songs ranking on Tuesday.
The sharpest overnight growth of the song occurred from Sunday, March 6, to Monday, March 7. It tallied 808,000 streams on Sunday, and then surged to 1.5 million the following day. Thatβs an 86% increase.
Daily On-Demand Official U.S. Streaming Totals For Nirvanaβs βSomething In The Wayβ
Feb. 28: 72,000, according to initial reports to MRC Data March 1: 78,000 March 2: 99,000 March 3: 123,000 March 4*: 291,000 March 5: 505,000 March 6: 808,000 March 7: 1.5 million March 8: 1.6 million
(*indicates the theatrical release date of The Batman)
Nevermind spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1992. It marked the groupβs first of four No. 1 albums, and spawned three Billboard Hot 100-charting singles: βSmells Like Teen Spiritβ (No. 6 peak), βCome As You Areβ (No. 32) and βLithiumβ (No. 64). The group only returned to the Hot 100 once more afterwards, in 2002, with βYou Know Youβre Right,β a previously-unreleased track from 1994 that appears on the groupβs self-titled greatest hits album.
βWhen I write, I listen to music, and as I was writing the first act, I put on Nirvanaβs βSomething in the Way,ββ Batman director Matt Reeves told Empire in December. βThatβs when it came to me that, rather than make Bruce Wayne the playboy version weβve seen before, thereβs another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse. So I started making this connection to Gus Van Santβs Last Days, and the idea of this fictionalized version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor.β
This isnβt the first time Nirvanaβs deep cut has appeared in a popular film. It appeared in the 2005 Sam Mendes film Jarhead and a brief cover appears in Cameron Croweβs 1996 comedy Jerry Maguire.

So while the big story this week is the fact that a Nirvana deepcut wound up as the biggest debut thanks to the new Batman movie, there are notable movements this week.
Boyfriend continues building to becoming a sleeper hit by cracking the Top 10 and being up 7%. Meanwhile after a first full of week of tracking I'm Tired gained 33%, Rocking A Cardigan in Atlanta (sadly) continues momentum by rising 32%, Don't Play That rebounded 16% thanks to the album dropping, and MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT continues building up by getting a 10% rise.

Youngboy's success is insanely baffling, because if you'd watch the billboard or Spotify charts you'd have no clue who he is and yet he's the most streamed artist in the US after Drake this year so far He has released 4 albums in last 6 months too.

I took efforts to do proper divisors for the different songs on radio, though they might be a little off. 5 songs' MRC numbers were revealed last week, which gave me the following profiles to fit the others to:
Heat Waves: 1.35 ABC: 1.3 Easy on Me: 1.15 We Don't Talk About Bruno: 1.2 Super Gremlin: 1.4
Also finally figured that Heat Waves keeps getting overreported by HITS; seems like .9 is the right multiplier for its tier 1s.

"Stay" is about to be top 4 again FFS. It isn't leaving the top 10 anytime soon.

Thereβs a chance that the #2 song could end up with less than 200 charting points this week:

This is a completely random thought that popped into my head regarding the current stagnant state of mainstream music, and I'm not sure how much weight this holds, but I want to test the waters anyway: Could part of the reason why we're in this predicament be because of the GRAMMYs being extremely late this year (i.e. April 3rd vs. the usual end of January)?
Yes, I'm aware that the ceremony really doesn't matter to the general public anymore and that it's being delayed for the exact same reason that it was delayed last year (COVID concerns), but I've never seen the music industry drag its feet like this in promoting new music (especially to replace months-old, long-past-peak music) since I started following the mainstream more closely a few years ago. It's possible the industry may see the GRAMMYs as a "hard reset" that will send off all of these old songs before they inevitably have to rotate them out in favor of what will replace them by the summer.
By no means do I see this as the sole reason for the current state of the charts, I think it's part of a much larger confluence of factors that includes radio consolidation and general public apathy toward new music in favor of other media that have been much more active recently thanks to the pandemic winding down (i.e. movies and TV) among other things, but still a part of it nonetheless.

If I'm not mistaken Handsomer might be setting a new low for a Digital Song Sales #1 this week, beating We Don't Talk About Bruno's record low 9.4k set earlier this year.

"Stay" is about to be top 4 again FFS. It isn't leaving the top 10 anytime soon. Actually, the gap between #2 and #5 is so thin, Stay could accidentally end up at #2 this week: If Stay ends up at #3, it will tie the record for most weeks in the Top 3. If it charts at #2, it will also tie the record for most weeks in the Top 2.

Nah, I think the low totals for the top songs will be the norm going forward (with the usual exceptions of course). The bothered really need to get used to it.

Maybe. But I'm worried it's due to the realization that they can make just as much, if not more, money having the same music stick around for a long time, rather than incur expenses promoting and marketing new music. Streaming has given them some proof that the general public likes to listen to the same old stuff over and over, rather than seek out new music. So if they make the same amount of money from someone listening to a song they already know as they do from someone listening to a new song that they have to promote, maybe they'll just sit back and let them do that. I think in the long term they'll be hurting their business, but the music business isn't always known for their long-term thinking.
