Let’s hope at least we’ll get one hit from this era.
I think Pink Champange, Crazy Angels, and Faster have the best chance.
Either way, i’m happy we get this record because it’s probably my fav after Some Heart and Blown Away.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m not that upset by those projections. If that’s what happens I’m okay with it. I mean, to have her ninth studio recording debut in the top 2 of her own genre’s chart seventeen years into her career is still absolutely incredible!! It is absolutely outstanding if you’re being honest! And about it being number 8 all genre? It’s still good!!! I mean, we’ve been/were in a lockdown pandemic situation long enough for so many artists to work on multiple projects. Recording or otherwise. And it so just so happens that a ton are releasing summer 2002.

I think we are just disappointed because her side projects (My Gift and My Savior) debuted with bigger numbers. So our expectation is high

And those 3 tracks are firmly my top favourites. Garden and Velvet Heartbreak round up top 5 for me.

I just looked at the Country Albums chart, and Miranda's latest isn't even top 10 despite being less than 2 months old. Maren Morris' latest albums isn't even top 50 (can that be right?!). Additionally Carrie's GH is top 30, presumably because streams from her hits are counting toward it. There are a lot of hits sets on the Country Albums chart. That all just further proves the point that streaming is what matters for that chart.

Just give me “Burn,” “Crazy Angels,” and “Velvet Heartbreak” and we will have a good era. GH is zooming up the chart nicely, should be top 15 soon now that songs are starting to drop off. Time to capitalize on radio at this point.

Just a random curiosity: Do we know if any songs on D&R were written for previous eras, but Carrie decided not to record them until now for one reason or another?
Do we have any confirmed instances of her recording co-writes from previous eras?

Carrie stating that she has already heard Burn is a favorite by many makes me believe it might be a single at some point and I’m here for it! That song has hit written all over it. This album might not be opening big but I believe it will do well, with the right singles and this album is chock full of them. Where did she say, that she's aware of Burn being a fan favorit? It has to be a single, I'm literally obsessed with this song.

The only instance I can recall is the demo of Wine After Whiskey was leaked before Play On was even released, but it wasn’t Carrie singing it on the demo - then getting released for Blown Away. Other than that, all the other demos (Oklahoma Wind, Sugar Rush, My Favourite Part, Leave it to the Rain, Desert Sun, etc..) never saw the light of day. Lord Help Me was leaked as a rough demo, but Bonnie Tyler later released it.

Honestly, had it not been for the fact that David Garcia has a co-write credit on it, I would’ve thought that “Hate My Heart” was a Storyteller reject. It would fit perfectly imo.

It's funny because the first few listens through the album, HMY was definitely my least favorite song. I instantly thought it could fit on ST, which is actually my favorite album from Carrie. Then the song clicked. It's currently right outside my top 5 and one of the ones that gets stuck in my head the most often. I could see it doing really well on radio, even if there are other songs I think I'd rather her release (Burn, SDK).

Love “Hate My Heart.” Not surprised at all to see it singled out as a highlight in multiple reviews. The way she attacks the chorus >>>

Her drawl on "HMH," I'm obsessed with it. It makes the song so fun to sing along to.

When I first saw Hardy was a co-write on HMH, I wasn't expecting much tbh; and then the song came and blew me out of the water. Such an infectious, raucous melody.

We need more visibility. May be time to go to the dark side and become a reality TV judge.

It’s very radio friendly and isn’t a risky choice like CP or LW was during the Cry Pretty era. Easily would be a top 5 single for her.

So, right now I have my singles down to this.
Velvet Heartbreak Pink Champagne Faster Crazy Angels Burn Hate My Heart
Do I think these will all be singles? Probably not. I think “Faster” is the least likely, but could be well worth the risk. I don’t know how a person hears it and doesn’t love it? If for nothing but the nostalgic vibe. I hope it doesn’t become the song she never performs!
With this said, I’d really be fine with any of these as well:
She Don’t Know Poor Everybody Else Denim & Rhinestones Wanted Woman Garden
So basically, the whole album is fire and they should absolutely do the Shania “Up” strategy and just release them all! Anyway, what’s most interesting for me is that I don’t think I would’ve listed “Ghost Story”. I love the song, but of all twelve tracks it’s probably my least favorite choice as a single. At this point I don’t see that changing… just kinda interesting, I guess.. Good news with that is it’s pushing top 15 at radio, it’s doing pretty well.

It’s flabbergasting that this is opening lower than a Christmas album in September of COVID. Christmas is a time of hope. People needed that at the time. And really wanted a Christmas record from Carrie!

Anyone else get Luke Combs vibes from "Hate My Heart?" I’ve thought this since I first heard this. Like debut album era Luke Combs though when his music felt fresh and not stale and boring. But has a very modern country feel to it. It’s not close to my favorite from the album but I think it would do well on radio for that reason. It’s going to be hard to make a “wrong” single selection this era since this album is so good. “Poor Everybody Else” is the only thing that truly has no place on country radio (LOVE it though) and I’d lean away from “Garden” and “Faster”, but everything else seems like an easy hit to me. “Burn” is an absolute must though so I’ll be gutted if that’s not a single. Sounds like “Pink Champagne” is next, which I’m fine with. Carrie doesn’t have a lot of love songs in her catalog, let alone as singles so a fun upbeat love song would be a good to add as a tour staple. “Pink Champagne” followed by “Burn” and then closing with something like D&R, VH, HMH, CA, WW or SDK would be a great era. I may be in the minority, but I love Ghost Story and am glad it’s a single.

The GP will eat “Burn” up. It’s relatable, it’s catchy, and she can amp up the pyro during live performances. I’m just not sure if it should be the 2nd single or if it should follow up “Pink Champagne” or “Crazy Angels.”

I'm also all for "Burn" 2nd. Come out swinging.

I’m beginning to think single #2 will end up being either PK OR CA. Not that either of those are the wrong choice! I mean the only songs that I would say aren’t contenders due to country radio’s current operating system would be Faster, Wanted Woman, Garden, and maybe Denim and Rhinestones. But even those could happen. This album has seriously no skips. I would say we just need a song with an undeniable ear worm to take us through the fall and into 2023. I’m sure we’ll see her test some more track during promo for the tour, and her hopeful return to SNF, in August and September. GS should peak in October (another #1 incoming please!) and then we’ll probably get single #2 in November around CMA Awards time.

This album deeply impacts the SuperBowl halftime show I’ve meticulously choreographed in my head over the past few years. This is an entertainer’s album; songs designed not only for radio, but also for arenas and stadiums. I cannot wait to see how this album changes her shows. Could this be the beginning of “Undo It’s” retirement? One can dream. Nevertheless, if there’s a SuperBowl halftime show in her future, which I still think is a genuine possibility, this album adds massive potential for the show, and everything else she does live… I LOVE that her music and artistic drive is being guided by live performance value, it’s a great perspective to make music from. This all from the same girl who won a singing competition - during which the biggest complaint she faced was that she sucked as an entertainer. Look at her now! Vegas, “touring juggernaut”, consistent EOTY nominee and 3-time ACM winner…
There was a time when crappy sales figures would’ve given me straight up anxiety… but now I’m just proud that Carrie has solidified herself as a major touring artist. Nearly 20 years in and she’s selling out arenas and launched a sold-out Vegas residency. I do think this album will have legs with its potential hits and the tour; but glowing album and tour reviews for an artist who was cast aside as an “entertainer” early on, and who already dominated the charts for over a decade, is way cooler.

So I just looked it up and the last country singer to perform the half-time show at the Super Bowl was 19 years ago with Shania so it is long overdue. Carrie deserves that spotlight.

Ok I am absolutely in love with Velvet Heartbreak! I feel exactly about it the way I felt about Dirty Laundry when Storyteller came out. It’s just soooo good and so catchy. Now I am just hoping someway, somehow it can become a single!! I still love Burn too, but VH has passed it up as my #1 fav from D&H.
Edit: There is something about tracks #2s for me! DFTRM, Quitter, Ghosts On The Stereo (along with DL and VH) are all in my top 10 Carrie songs of all-time!
