No doubt in my mind, the "acoustic" version of "Ghost Story" from the Apple Music Sessions is far superior to the recorded version. I wish artists would get away from so much production and noise and go back to being able to hear the instruments. Probably a pipe-dream. I also agree that's the best version of "Blown Away" she's put out since the VH1 performance. Very, very good!

I went down a Carrie rabbit hole last night and realized how much I miss her singing Just a Dream (the whole song, not a mashup) and ESPECIALLY So Small these days. I get it, the songs are far in the past, but man do I love them and that album so much. And I think she'd sound better than ever singing them these days since her vocals have been KILLER post-pandemic.

The more I listen to the Apple Music session of BA, the louder I declare that it better be the version on tour.

Add me to the list of people who like the stripped back versions of "Ghost Story" and "Blown Away" in the Apple Sessions performances. And the more out-front country instrumentation is a welcome highlight as well. I prefer "Blown Away" as originally done because it just works with the speed, bombast and dramatic impact. I actually prefer "Ghost Story" stripped back like this. It would have fit better this way on D&R in my opinion. As I've said before, I like D&R very much, but it could have benefited from an additional ballad/slow-tempo.

My money is on “Blame It On Your Heart”… but whatever it is, I’m looking forward to it! Always love a classic country cover!

Still waiting on that covers album… any day now I tell myself (in my mind, her covers album will be a double album, why not?)

I'd rather hear her on one of Patty's terrific ballads - Here I Am, Nothin' But the Wheel, On Your Way Home - than a kitschy uptempo. Maybe "You Can Feel Bad" if it's more of an uptempo.

An alternate music video for Ghost Story on Thursday? Is this something artists are doing now?

Who asked for an alternative video for GS? This doesn’t seem necessary. Weirdest announcement of her career.

An alternate music video for Ghost Story on Thursday? Is this something artists are doing now? The closest example I can think of is “Lady Like” by Ingrid Andress, which was given a music video initially in March 2019, and was then given an official treatment in March 2021, shortly after the titular album’s release the October prior. In any case, this is definitely a left-of-center move from Carrie, and is perhaps being done as a means to continue pushing the track to country radio during its final weeks as they try to work it towards becoming what will hopefully be her first solo #1 (on the Billboard chart) in over six (!?!?) years. And hey, maybe it’ll be less polarizing! Wishful thinking says it’s not directed by Randee!

It’s likely just different footage from the same video shoot, with an “alternate ending” of sorts. AKA, still Randee.
“Pink Champagne” was/is on so many pop-leaning and non-Country-geared Spotify playlists. Just drop GS and move on to the real smash from this record.

I’ll second this on Pink Champagne. At work we listen to Pandora (not by choice) and on the Today’s Country playlist, that song is one of the most played. It’s probably all random but I hear it more often than I hear Ghost Story.

How much does a label make off a song doing well at radio? It just seems odd to me to continue to push "GS" at radio and with a new video as that's money being spent; so, I assume the label is getting something in return? Surely investing in a single that is selling singles and more so albums would be a better investment.

It’s original video was just the boring one of her singing in the back of a pickup truck, but later they released the one they now refer to as the official video, and have erased the “official video” out of the original ones title. Torn between wanting a new single and wanting them to keep on with GS. I think it has enough in the tank for a #1 finish, but I really can't wait for some of the songs that were immediate to me on the record to be released. GS was never immediate, it was a big grower.

I still think GS is an absolute waste of album hype and promo resources.

Not truly new alternate videos, but Sara Evans' "My Heart Can't Tell You No" had a few different videos with different endings. The video for Hunter Hayes' "Wanted" was redone to add in concert footage. Oh, and I think Jana Kramer had two videos for one of her songs. These aren't in country music, but "Unwritten," "Jesus Walks," "Viva La Vida," and many more had multiple videos.

As a fan (but also a big fan of the song so maybe that’s a contributing factor) I personally hope they stick with GS and push it to #1 if possible. I know she has plenty of them, but it’s exciting to see them continue this far into her career and as a woman nearing 40 on country radio. It’s nearly top 10 and nothing but her age and sex make it seem unlikely to reach #1 from my gathering.
The bigger hits will come (Burnnnnnnn).

What's different with the alternative version of the "Ghost Story" video? Looks pretty close to the original to me.

Actually happen to prefer the alternate version, especially that ending.

This is going to hit top 10 more than likely, once the songs in the top 10 start dropping. I just wonder how much longer they can afford to push this considering album sales have tanked and there is little buzz. Capitol really dropped the ball when it came to promoting this album.

I just wonder how much longer they can afford to push this considering album sales have tanked and there is little buzz. This has been my concern all along. The longer this takes to peak, the more the album itself is forgotten. What are the chances of it being truly revitalized by another single, even if that single is a hit? We've also seen posts in here about how physical sales are important for Carrie, but if the few places still selling physical product stop reserving shelf space for this project because it hasn't been selling for them, then there won't be any physical product for people to buy if a new song catches on. Maren Morris is in the same position. "Circles..." is still rising at country radio 6 months into its run, but the album is not even in the top 50 on Country Albums. Carrie's album rose 25-22 on the latest Country Albums chart, but it has already fallen behind Miranda's latest album despite that one being nearly 2 months older. (Much older albums by male artists are of course ahead of D&R, but it's country music so that's to be expected.)

Yeah I don't get all the people who say country sales are down in general because while that may be true, a lot of Carrie's peers are still selling more than her like Miranda. For some reason, it's 'Denim & Rhinestones' specifically that isn't doing all that well compared to other country albums.

For some reason, it's 'Denim & Rhinestones' specifically that isn't doing all that well compared to other country albums. D&R was out of the Country Albums top 20 in less than a month of charting. My guess is no other Carrie album has left the Country Albums top 10 that quickly, let alone the top 20. So, yeah, there is a specific issue with this album, and it's not a stretch to say at least part of the issue is that "Ghost Story" is not prompting people to check out the album.

I have a feeling they’re going to do a slew of promo late summer into fall before awards season and the tour. The beginning of this album era is different from everything she has done before, even the special projects had more promo around the debuts. So I really think maybe their strategy is to get through summer and really hit the ground running during the fall.
