Ok, so first listen, it was very underwhelming, but as I listened to it more, I liked it more. The chorus is very catchy, been in my head all morning. I just hope the rest of the album is better. In my opinion, she needs to move away from producing with David Garcia and go back to her roots with someone like Dann Huff, or even Greg Wells. I’m not a huge fan of the direction that David Garcia has taken with Carrie’s music. I know what you mean even though the music she makes with David is beautiful, its hard to put my finger on it but its almost as if something is missing, but it seems to me that Carrie likes they music they make together and she feels like its her. I do like the song a lot more after the first listen, I guess I was expecting something different and after getting past that I was able to appreciate the sounds a bit more.

I like it. Not super excited about it, but it's a nice single.
I am so out of touch with country music that I don't even know what works on radio anymore. So, as long as this gets her a solo hit again, that's all that matters for the new era!

“GS” wasn’t even top 200 on U.S. Spotify yesterday. Yikes.

“GS” wasn’t even top 200 on U.S. Spotify yesterday. Yikes. It’s showing as #18 on Apple Music’s country chart and at least #7 is in the top 100 all genre, for whatever that’s worth.

Streaming will always be an uphill battle. Between her genre, her age and being a female in country music, the combo is just tough for streaming. Not sure even what her team could do about it.

She won American Idol almost 17 years ago. Her fanbase is mostly middle-aged women at this point.

Sure, but Kacey, Maren, and others have made the top 100 on U.S. Spotify with new singles. I know they are younger, but Carrie should have a core fan base at this point. I guess they aren't Spotify users, though. Where did "IIDLY" peak on U.S. Spotify?

Have you missed the fact that she has the most awards ever from the CMT’s? The fan voted award show? Your CONSTANT negative posts are what’s yikes. I appreciate a different opinion other than pure positive bliss but do you ever have anything good to say? Anyway, I like the song pretty well. I agree that it does sound like a Carrie Underwood song, in a good way. I’m definitely a fan of her lower register being displayed to the masses. I do wish there was another verse that went a little deeper into why the relationship ended and she’s so happy to be haunting the ex instead of just laying it out there, but maybe that’s personal preference. Happy to have Carrie back! I’m really looking forward to this new era!

I am a middle aged male carrie fan, so i grew up first with cassettes then cds. I don’t own any vinyl and never will. Im not really that much into streaming, EXCEPT for discovering new music that i will eventually buy if i like it enough. When an established artist or someone i am a huge fan of releases something new i will absolutely stream it immediately, and if i like it enough will probably buy it, or wait til the full album cd comes out. I didn’t really like spotify when i first tried it, and eventually got amazon music unlimited when they put out a good deal a few years back to join. So thats what i use when i do stream via a pay for app as i ended up liking amazon much better than spotify. I prob use youtube more than anything else for streaming because of the visuals that go along with music videos or even lyric videos.
Anyways, i am not sure if others my age or close to it are like me or not, but my point is i think there are still alot of us in my age range that would rather buy it, especially something you can put in your hands, than stream it. And i believe Carrie’s core fanbase is closer to my age than someone in their teens and 20s that likley their only way of music consumption is streaming. My 2 cents at least….

I’m 21 and even I prefer buying CDs/vinyls over streaming, although I will obviously stream the music when it first comes out, as I will be doing for “Ghost Story” until the album comes out. I use Apple Music because I just like the interface and for a lot of the reasons that bigd79 listed for using streaming services. Carrie has just always been terrible at streaming (unless it’s something like BHC), and I honestly don’t know what all UMG/Capitol can do about it outside of shelling out money to shove her down the general public’s throat. And now she’s pushing 40, and with the ageism that permeates the air she’s got another factor working against her. In any case, she’ll be fine, especially when she sells hundreds of thousands of pure copies of CU9.

It does seem her team tries to push her more to streaming service but there seems to be a disconnect there. Maybe it is an age thing. I feel like Kacey and Maren definitely have a younger base than Carrie does.

Y’all are so weird. Jenglisbe said nothing wrong. This is going to be a tough sell unless the song gets a major performance soon.

There’s no point in getting worked up over streaming figures from a 39 year old female country musician who debuted in the 2000’s. She’s never going to be competitive in streaming. Ever.
Carrie sells albums and tour tickets. That’s how she reaches her audience.

All you have to do is look at Carrie's singles placement on H100 starting in 2015 when streaming really took off v. pre-streaming.
I think Carrie had something like 20 solo singles hit the Top 40 on the H100 through 2014. Starting in 2015, she missed the Top 40 with EVERY single she released even the ones that were Top 2 in country radio. Her only Top 40s were features - The Fighter and IIDLY. It's just the way it is.
More importantly, Carrie scored big with not one, but two, off-era albums that will continue to sell for years.

I think the reason Carrie still does well all these years later is because she has a rather eclectic fanbase, especially for a country female - and that has to do with how she came onto the scene. I see women of all ages at her concerts, I see lots of (I presume) lgbtq men, and I see some middle-aged/older men - who may be there with wives/families, but that’s not always the case.
Carrie isn’t a streaming artist largely because the core of her fan base would rather purchase the music and see her live. Carrie does better in all the realms of entertainment that actually generate direct income, so I’d take strong sales and tours over inflated streaming stats any day. Carrie’s team is doing a lot to create some streaming momentum, but it’s hard when there isn’t a major streaming hit to work with in her discography. Carrie’s old stuff anchors her streaming stats, but her newer stuff never stays on playlists long enough to generate “recurrent” (I guess) traction. What would really help is a career-hit during the streaming age, which would keep Carrie on a lot more current playlists… hopefully this album scores Carrie a huge hit!!
I don’t think Carrie will ever become a streaming-dominant artist, but I don’t think she can’t be a major player - she just lacks the hits within the streaming era, but that can all change with one song.

Anyway, she’s been gradually trademarking “Copper Rose” since 2017. The trademark applies to literally almost everything (clothing, household items, fragrances, bags, pet clothes). This definitely explains the CALIA exit. She’s coming for that Successica Simpson empire.
I wasn’t going to share this because I’ve spoiled enough, but it’s public knowledge and the girls at CarrieFans found it so whatever.

Basically, her LLC (Carrie Okie Holdings) has filed multiple requests over the years for trademarking of Copper Rose. The first trademark request was for purses and similar bags, then there was a request for cosmetic items (skincare, perfume, lotion), and the latest request in August of 2021 was for clothing.
If you want to check it out yourself, just search the US Patent and Trademark Office.

GS is number 1 on iTunes. That says more to me than streaming. Her fans are more into buying her songs than just streaming and it’s been that way for years now. Selling records and selling out her concerts, great combination.

She won American Idol almost 17 years ago. Her fanbase is mostly middle-aged women at this point. Not even close imo. I was a Carrie fan from the AI audition and I was 15 when she won. I would say her demographic trends more towards older females, but not necessarily middle aged.
