I think the lack of availability of the CD is being majorly overblown. Not so much as far as sales went, as it obviously held sales down. We don't know the details like when did the label know it wasn't going to be in stores on time or what caused the delay. I'm sure if the label had plenty of notice they would have delayed the release by a week or 2. As it is I got mine from Amazon that Sunday
IMO they need to adjust sales for all albums to only include when the full album is purchased, and not include individual song purchases off the album (the equivalent in the adding up of sales).
As I have not chimed in on GH, it is an okay song not something I have actively listened to more than a few times. Just not my cup of tea. But I don't think it was a bad first single at all.

I don’t think the public has embraced ghost story enough for it to launch an album. Was it only on the hot 100 for two weeks prior to the album releasing? That’s drastically different than her other eras. Hopefully the album has legs with another 2 hits singles (people anticipating 5 singles are quite bold).

^ Already outpeaks all the Cry Pretty singles except the lead, and GS isn't even top 15 @ radio yet. I know it got a big boost cause of the album drop, but it's definitely promising.

Y’all take things too damn literally sometimes. Right, yeah, you see this but then it confuses me on certain other points. I assumed in that case when a lot of the core fans were calling her the "greatest living entertainer on planet earth", after that Coachella performance, in a world where say Beyoncé, or Bruno Mars, or Pink etc. exist...that her fans were just being silly or joking. But now I'm starting to suspect they were actually...being serious. There's a lot of "this could/should/will go six singles deep" "this is their best album ever!!" stuff that comes part and parcel with standom, but you do raise a point that it is becoming difficult to decipher reality and fantasy, seriousness and un-seriousness when it comes to this artist, project and the fan rhetoric that surrounds.

You do realise that every fanbase has these fans who call their faves ‘the greatest entertainer’. Because for them, maybe they are and thats why they are fans in the first place. For Beyonce’s fans, Beyonce is the best. For Pink fans, PInk is the best. Even for Selena Gomez’s fans, she is the best.

The thing is this part of the forum is meant for more serious discussion. Those obviously stan words can go back to Artist Discussion where imo can be more light-hearted.

Don’t quote me on it but I think I only remember CP making it to somewhere in the 80s on the hot 100 after it’s initial peak.
So I’d say organically GS is in a better position that CP was.

For Beyonce’s fans, Beyonce is the best. For Pink fans, PInk is the best. Even for Selena Gomez’s fans, she is the best. Yeah, you see, I just don’t think this is true sofar as it relates to this forum and what I was saying. Sure, yes, on Twitter or whatever you have every faction imaginable calling their faves the “best in the cosmos d*e b*tch”. However, no, on Pulse - which is a fairly temperate space sofar as standom and internet zeal goes, you don’t have “every fanbase” calling their fave the greatest entertainer on planet earth, after a fairly standard version of a festival/GH setlist. Carrie’s Cochella was precisely what she’s been doing the last few years (which, in my opinion involves strutting around stage in shorts, head banging, with the quite-tight-but-just-about-making-it-on-the—top-end vocals etc.). To hear the “Beychella” co-opting, the reaction as though she done anything resembling cultural commentary, technical boundary pushing, choreography, gymnastic/arial feats, or even something resembling a career best vocal? I just happened to assume, as is now is being suggested r.e. “Come On Over”, that it was a joke. So you can understand how it becomes hard to know when it’s a ‘chill guys, don’t take me too literally’, ‘duh it’s a metaphor’, or a straight faced proclamation by grown ups that Carrie Underwoods’s Coachella set rendered her the greatest living entertainer in the world. Apart from Beyoncé, for whom the discourse has for ten years quite rightly been warranted, I don’t really see it on Pulse anywhere else. Sure, there are lots of “she’s at her peak vocally”, “she’s the greatest female R&B vocalist around”, “he’s up there with the greats”. Etc. Carrie’s core base have discussed opening sales being ‘humbling’ etc. so I assume a lot of the hyperbole and histrionics will start to die down some, and a of the discourse surrounding her will become a lot more sensible and less confusing.

Exhausting.
Anyway, it's nice to see many people come around to this song who were initially lukewarm upon its release. While it was instant for me (the chorus, her use of her lower register), I would have preferred a more stripped-back, country production. I'd love to hear an acoustic or even piano (ballad) version of this song. I think it could really bring out a different side of the song that isn't specifically highlighted in its current form.

Should we worry about Luke Combs’ new one blocking GS? It is gaining incredibly fast, even for a clear channel deal debut. I would like to think they’ll just barely miss each other

Way too early to tell imo

I think it will depend how clogged up the chart gets in the next few weeks. Morgan will get #1 for at least 2 weeks probably, Scotty 1 or 2, Tim & Jake 1 and those 2 will drop fast most likely, kane is prob in line for 2 or 3 weeks, I suppose Dylan will get a week even though its bland AF, CY/MT at least a week, Maren im not sure if it will get quite there or not but least top 5, Pardi most likely gets a week, not sure about justin’s song. Anyways, thats alot of songs that its gonna move slowly once songs falling currently fall out or go recurrent. The good news is it should be close to top 10 in next few weeks and hopefully it can pass another song or 2. Of course we need to have testing continue to be good also.
Feels like around labor day for this to get to the top? Maybe even a week or 2 after.

It's so funny how at the beginning of the era I was like "why the F did they release Ghost Story when Crazy Angels and Velvet Heartbreak exist?" but now I thoroughly enjoy the single and think it's such great ear candy. I really, really, hope this can go to #1 on Country Airplay and would be ecstatic if it does. However I am getting 'Southbound' vibes where it picked up in the teens, and struggled to reach the top three.
It's over now, but I think they should have waited a few months to release the album as a lot of people who didn't resonate with this single at the beginning have changed their mind and I believe that it could have been like that with the general public as well. May have not made a huge difference in opening sales, but I bet she could've opened with 40K+ had they waited a smidgen more.

I think Ghost Story ranks up there as a Carrie classic alongside songs like Church Bells, Two Black Cadillacs, Blown Away, etc.
For me its an ear worm that I still haven't gotten tired of, then I fall in love with the sound, or just the lyrics which don't get enough attention.
Such great lines:
You'll Be Sitting At Home Drinking About Me When I'm Out With My Friends At The Bar But There Ain't Enough Whiskey For You Not To Miss Me I'll Be Waiting At The Bottom Of The Bottle In The Dark
You'll Wish You Never Said Goodbye Wish You'd Never Let Me Go Let The Love Between Us Die You Can Carve It Into Stone

This is getting super close to Top 10 on MB. Sitting at #11 currently. Let’s hope she can make top 10 on BB once the dust clears a little in the top 10.

No doubt in my mind, the "acoustic" version of "Ghost Story" from the Apple Music Sessions is far superior to the recorded version. I wish artists would get away from so much production and noise and go back to being able to hear the instruments. Probably a pipe-dream.

#3 on Monday Morning Intel callout. Only song performed by a solo female vocalist in the Top 15.

Wish radio would start treating it better. Testing seems to be great. Should be seeing terrific updates, but is just seeing average.

This song just is not for me, sounds too similar to other songs she has cut before. Just my opinion!

As long as this song can peak somewhere in the top 10, I’ll be satisfied and we can move on to a new single that will sell the album better.

All I’m going to say is being in genre that values women so little, Carrie Underwood sending all 33 of her singles to at least the top 10 on Mediabase is nothing short of iconic (with 28 of those being #1 hits.)

Now let’s hope Carrie can manage a top 10 or even a top 5 peak. Still is crazy to me that unless you’re Luke Combs or Kane Brown, you’re in for a 30-40 week ascent on the charts.

The time it takes a single to rise up the charts is maddening! I do like "Ghost Story" very much. It would not have been my choice for the lead, but I do understand why they felt the need to choose it. Hoping it hits #1 on both charts, but the chart is pretty crowded and it will have to wait it's turn. I'm surprised how "Wishful Drinking" is starting to really rise and could conceivably jump "Ghost Story." That's something I didn't expect.
