early prediction:
1: As It Was 2: First Class 3: Don't Think Jesus
I bet Don't Think Jesus will surprise us with Amazon numbers, and I bet it will also get a big Easter boost on Spotify/Apple, but even with the 7:1 sales lead the lack of radio will probably mean it doesn't surpass either Harry or Jack

How many sales did Nicki have for DWHAP? Because I bet Morgan will outstream and probably have 50k in sales given the iTunes lead and last week's numbers

I don't think you can make a general statement about Morgan Wallen's audience or most artists audience for that matter. (I am sure that the audience of Morgan Wallen has a variety of characteristics rather than the one specific one we are talking about)
People will listen to what they want to listen to.

Aren't there artists threads for people who want to discuss specific artists? Why is the shit clogging up this thread? The song is not going number one, and his stans are aware of that because they would not be posting about whatever other nonsense if they thought that it was. Enough is enough already

Please, can you guys take the discussions about Morgan Wallen and his (non-racist/mostly racist, depending on who you ask) fan base to his artist page? I think we should try to stick to discussions about the song he just released/its performance instead.
I really wouldn't be surprised if Don't Think Jesus grows on streaming throughout the week. I've learned that Morgan didn't actually write the song (it was co-written by Mark Holman, Chase McGill, and Jessi Alexander, last year, with Morgan in mind) and the song isn't a Christian/Gospel song to me, but it does have a hopeful message and one I think is important.
Anyways, I think the song is really good (it's the first Morgan Wallen song I've listened to in over a year) and I wouldn't be surprised if it has more longevity on the charts than any other single he's ever released. Smart move from him and his team releasing the song when/how they did. I guess the redemption arc is officially in effect.

I am glancing at that Morgan guy's album now, and that album is thirty three songs! It is intriguing that the usual suspects who are always on here whining about album length and juicing streaming have nothing to say about that

Problem, released through Republic Records, debuts with 24.4 million U.S. streams in the week ending Feb. 10, according to MRC Data. The sum prompts a No. 1 entrance on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart. Likewise, the single begins with 48,000 sales downloads in the same period and opens at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales. βProblemβ also drew 3.7 million in radio airplay audience in the tracking week.
I think this will beat Problem in all metrics except radio. But thatβs probably good enough for 3 on this chart as opposed to missing number one by a hair. Glad the chart is a lot stronger just a month later

The album length is one of the drivers to the lengthy chart run of course.
If it were 12 songs instead of 30. Probably would not have had the near record chart run

Is this literally the first time Gary has admitted to listening to specific music by a specific artist? I'm gagged! Yes, and the fact that he keeps putting quote marks around "the incident" kind of tells us all we need to know and is the most troubling to me. I mean, if it were just a one-time thing with Morgan using that word and if it didn't align with all of what we know about his overall views and behavior, that would be one thing, but it's become clear, as Maren Morris has said and speaking for others in the industry, and THAT WALLEN HIMSELF has admitted in an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, that that wasn't the first time he used that word, so it does to some extent represent a pattern of behavior and culture of beliefs he is a part of. And lol at some of you trying to shut down and demand that we cease all discussion about this, especially from those who can be considered part of the most "woke" and "extreme liberal" posters on Pulse and who regularly bring up these topics and continue these sorts of discussions every week. If it's ok for you to keep talking about these things, and the artists are mainstays on the charts, then it is relevant and sorry, but you can't stop us. This was literally an artist who a year ago we all collectively decided to cancel, and now you are insisting that we un-cancel him?? Sorry, can't do that. That's not to say that Wallen is completely irredeemable, and I do think that he has taken some measures and might be beginning the arc of redemption, but to me it's still in the process and we need to wait more time to see how things go; but in the meantime I think it's ok for people to still espouse criticisms. As far as whether his success after the incident was completely attributable to racists latching onto him, of course we can't know for sure, nor whether that includes his entire fanbase now, but the way there were the immediate sales and streaming spikes immediately afterward and that were not just brief, and obviously as the music has continued to chart so highly and at a level he didn't experience earlier in his career, you cannot rule it out as being a possibility. It's definitely reasonable to assume that racists and others who are of the ultra right wing and MAGA-oriented ilk have latched onto him and put him up as a standard-bearer of their doctrines, along with the music itself I'll admit being sort of good and some non-racists and non-right wing people choosing to listen to it as well (I'll admit I enjoy some of his songs and haven't completely boycotted him myself, so it's a point of contention for me, as with other troublesome artists). But to insist that we all accept the idea that he has been fully (or mostly) redeemed now and adhere to the belief that the music is doing well simply "because it is good" is a bit premature.

But to insist that we all accept the idea that he has been fully (or mostly) redeemed now and adhere to the belief that the music is doing well simply "because it is good" is a bit premature. No one is saying ceasing talking about what he's done means we've forgiven him or that "we uncancel him" - again, I don't think he should've been brought back so soon and very few of us have even said he's been "redeemed" outside of the fact radio stations are comfortable playing him. We're just saying the convo about him and especially his fanbase isn't necessary and could be moved to a different thread as to not derail and make this one too heavy. And personally I do think it is wrong to write off people listening to Morgan because they secretly support what he's done. We've visibly seen how short of an attention span these movements to """fight back against the woke mob""" lasts and Morgan's success shows it's more than just people fighting against "cancel culture". There's nothing any of us can to do to stop the support he has from the industry and his fans so y'all can make your judgement calls like me and we can just listen to the country we do like. His music clearly has resonated with a lot of people and whether you think that's a character profile or not is up to you but liking art from problematic people, especially ones that are still alive, is something we ALL have done. It's fine to say you don't want to see him get a slap on the wrist but liking his music does not mean you agree he should get off scout free. Liking music doesn't make you bad.

I also donβt think a lot of people who listen to music by problematic artists really give it as much thought as we do or as we think they do/should. They just like the music. We here tend to dig deeper into the artists behind the music more than most, because itβs where part of our interests are. For many, music is a casual, more passive pastime. Background music, or something to sing along to while driving or working or whatever. It isnβt much deeper than that. The most they can be accused of, if theyβre even aware of what happens behind the scenes or artists like Morgan or whoever, is turning a blind eye to those incidents, which may be a discussion in and of itself, but I donβt know if Iβd go around accusing those people of racism/homophobia/etc. and those who do the most to try to do that are doing nobody any favours by trying to simplify the discussion this way.

Sorry to derail the thread even more with this reply but just to add to this, can we all please stop acting like any of these musicians are perfect? One issue I have with cancel culture is that it claims that all it wants is for public figures to be decent people but really what it demands is that they be perfect and spotless and that's an unreasonable expectation to have for any human being. We have all done/said stuff that would be deemed problematic in today's world, the only difference being that our tweets didn't get dug up/we didn't get exposed in some other way publicly. I'm a fan of people and their work knowing fully well that more likely than not, they've done/said terrible things or even worse, are terrible people who just so happen to be talented at a given thing. I'm a black woman who is a huge fan of rap β a genre of music that's built on an overwhelming amount of misogyny and sometimes, threats against women. As disturbing as that can be to think about, it's still my favorite genre of music to engage with and that doesn't stop me from getting whatever enjoyment I can get out of it. I know the rappers I listen to are all flawed human beings. Who isn't? It simply is what it is. No one is trying to redeem anyone but Morgan isn't the first, last or only person in country music to do/say something racist. As I understand it, that entire industry is ruled by racists. There are loads of people who simply didn't get exposed the way Morgan did and that spreads across several other music marketplaces, so if some people want to continue to listen to Morgan's music, that's up to them and I believe they can do so without being accused of supporting what he said. Just like you said, some people simply don't think too deeply about some of these things like some others do and that's perfectly okay. To most people, music is a simple pastime and nothing more and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. We really don't have to keep having these deep and dynamic discussions in this forum if they don't directly tie to the charts or music that got released. There are other forums for long-drawn-out discussions.

It is intriguing how a few weeks after my post on here about the rise in catalog music being more recent stuff from more recent veteran artists, not The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen, something similar about that pops up on Billboard. Doesn't someone from Billboard post on here? You are not sly www.billboard.com/pro/catalog-music-newer-songs-dominate/

The one notable thing about Morgan Wallen that Iβve picked up on is how massive his young fanbase is. I teach middle school and just about all of the kids are into him.
Itβs been a loooong time since I saw kids who were into a Country singer.

oh god I actually like Morgan's new song. Solid vocals and instrumentation, and the lyrics have a pretty nice sentiment too.
Divorced from Morgan Wallen himself, this is a good country song.

Anyway, I listened to the oh so controversial song itselfβ¦ YAWN. But it seems heartfelt and genuine, so I appreciate it. I might even make my own versionβ¦ π€
I also gave Lizzoβs new song About Bleep Time a listen - not the most original, but I also appreciate its message and uplifting vibes

Bon Jovi's "This House Is Not For Sale" debuted at #1 on the chart dated November 26, 2016 and spent a week atop the chart, it would then return to #1 on the chart dated March 10, 2018, almost 2 years after it originally went #1. The album's resurgence was due to ticket bundling with the album. Here's a funny fact, this album broke the record for largest fall from #1 on the Billboard 200 in 2016, falling 1-43. It would break the record once again in 2018, a record it still holds to this day. The album fell 1-169.
