Not expecting a huge smash #1 debut but maybe top 15 or even lower top 10? i remember fingers crossed was doing quite well on streaming and sales too and it debuted rather low think hopefully this one will be more consistent

Morgan's song is not a Christian song, it is a country song that mentions God like tons of other country songs do. It has Jesus in the title and in the lyrics...not sure what other religion has Jesus lmao. is Jesus take the wheel a country or Christian song? or God's Country? or god your mama and me? I think of christian music as like music that would be sung during a worship service rather than a song that happens to mention tenets of a faith

Well one, tell that to an entire industry that brands itself as "Christian Contemporary Music" with radio stations and labels 2. This isn't a random faith or a vague mention of "God" like in God's Country. Heaven, hell and God are constructs that exist in other religions but this explicitly songs explicitly Jesus and explicitly reference teachings in the Bible, and not just in throwaway lines: it's tied to the main theme of the song. It's fair game to call it a Christian song. You can't just pretend that Jesus or The Bible are vague reference to some other faith or religion, just like you wouldn't if a song mentioned teachings from The Q'ran.

Like it's a hip-hop song first and foremost so Iβd describe it as a rap song with Christian themes because it wasn't some throwaway adlib of "Jesus Christ", it was a song all about Jesus walking with sinners. That's a more devout topic that actually grounded Jesus' teachings better than most of CCM.

iTunes also thinks Meant to Be is a country song. So did billboard. It was number one for about a year on Hot Country Songs

Well, I actually think Morgan's song is pretty good and I will be re-listening to it. Lizzo, who? But, I'm still not convinced he's fully a #1 contender. How fast did Harry and Jack Harlow reach Apple Music's top spot? I actually think her new song is a bop, nice upbeat disco feel, and it's important people know it's out, as well as her album coming soon, and if people would just buy/stream this song instead!!. For Morgan's song, I actually liked the acoustic version he posted earlier a little better and don't like the production they added to the official release, though overall not crazy about the song, especially when it gets to the chorus. If he does get #1 though, he would kind of earn it fair and square when there is the choice of all these other new releases people could consume instead.

we just gotta make sure that country person doesn't inch back up to #1. I think Dangerous going back to #1 on the Billboard 200 is a done deal. What you can do, though, is stream As It Was and/or First Class repeatedly to prevent Morgan from having the Hot 100/Billboard 200 double. they're all bad songs

Lmao at people saying Morgan is battling for #1 position before we have the first day numbers from Spotify. And it's the same user every week. We were supposed to have 3 top 10 debuts last week according to him.

It's nice to see some discussion about the charts, but why does it always have to be so messy?

It's nice to see some discussion about the charts, but why does it always have to be so messy? You have one user who writes paragraph long diatribes and considers themselves the Pulse authority and best taste on Pulse and tries to shut down any discussion they don't like, and you have one user who gives bizarre hot takes and remains fixated on niche things long after discussion has moved on. I think part of the reason why these threads have died is the charts are boring, but a part is the two of them now taking up 30+% of all posts on the forum in a way that either doesn't contribute to discussion or actively attempts to stifle it. Back to regular discussion though, does it look like No Role Modelz might be able to break recurrency this week or next? It hit a new peak of 11 on Spotify yesterday and might break the top 10 this week, one of the wildest Spotify runs ever

Yes, that is the gist of why the chat is so messy. As far as regular discussion goes, I'm not sure how close No Role Modelz is to hitting the top 50. I don't tend to see it in a lot of the predictions I see for the Hot 100, but you'd have to think that it isn't too far away from the top 50, though it would obviously find a much easier path if the track was added to radio or had a significant amount of sales.

Becky G and Karol G finally released the music video for "MAMII," featuring Mia Khalifa and Euphoria's Angus Cloud. should give the song a nice boost.

It's super-interesting how identity politics has become so pervasive that even songs must be pigeonholed and stamped with a definitive label.
I'm glad we're seeing several new releases actually catch the GP's attention.

Maybe this is the first sign that I'm getting out of touch because I don't think I've ever heard someone irl talking about her music, but she's evidently somewhat big? Happy for her, though

Lizzo is also my pick of the week with the new songs. On first listen, its catchy and it reminds me of something I've heard before from another artist, the line "Oh, I've been so down and under pressure" but just not sure as yet. It won't matter as its a total different construct of a song. But the GP seems to prefer Morgan and Lauren, and these are not my type of stuff to play on repeat as they drag. I've nothing against these artistes, they entertain the public but these usually take longer to grow on me, if so.

Donβt Think Jesus is outselling #2 Flowers by 7:1 and is top 3 on Apple Music right now Yeah, expected large lead in sales because of demo and it's a stand-alone single compared to As It Was or First Class.

I can say there's a possibility for there to be 10 top 10 debuts this week and that's not going to be true. You suggesting that Jack Harlow and the two Lil Baby songs *could* debut in the top 10 before there were any numbers is exactly what SEVERAL people here say is the issue each week. You ignoring everyone for months on end and making the same "Stay should have [insert arbitrary number] of weeks at #1 because this, this, and this..." shows your lack of reading the room.

I think we can all agree, at this point, that Don't Think Jesus, As It Was, and First Class WILL be the Top 3 on the 4/30 chart. Anyone who doesn't think this at this point isn't paying attention. The Spotify numbers is going to determine which order. If Morgan's Spotify numbers are ahead of Harry and Jack, he will probably debut at #1 due to the sales advantage.

I'm not willing to say where a song is going to be before seeing any Spotify numbers at all, or knowing if it has an early radio deal or what not. Every week we have new singles that people think are surefire number one contenders and some of them don't even make the top 20.

As for the genre debate (βis Donβt Think Jesus a Christian song?β)β¦ well look at the title of the song lol. βChristian musicβ is more of a medium actually. Any song with a Christian message fits, regardless of the songβs actual genre.
And I WISH Christian radio played more interesting stuff, because currently, itβs a contemporary snooze fest
