Katy Perry albums are never good so I'm not really on board with the hate train happening for her this era. For me, there's no difference or decline I can distinguish between 143 and her last 3 albums. But, no, it's not a good album I fear. With that said, something I love about Ms. K8 is that she will ignore a backlash and perform like the rent is DUE!
That performance she did on the VMAs this year was my favourite of her entire career. Absolutely flawless.

Katy Perry albums are never good That's a really harsh criticism to then be against hate. lol Maybe her work isn't the crème de la crème, but I'd argue against it never being good. Smile was a really underappreciated good album. I think Teenage Dream was a great album aside from "Pearl" (even most great albums have a replaceable track or two). I think her debut and Prism (despite the slow filler on the back half) are relatively good albums as well. I'd even say Witness is a pretty good album, just was maybe a bit disappointing following her string of huge hits and what it was set up to be (but there is certainly strong material there like the title track, "Roulette", "Bigger Than Me", "Pendulum", and "Chained To The Rhythm"). I think 143 is perhaps her first kind of middling to poor effort, but even it's not terrible IMO. I don't get why people share this sentiment she produces "bad" albums frequently?

Yeah maybe that was a lil' harsh, she definitely has good songs, but her last three albums as a whole have just been so disjointed and had loads of filler. 143 in particular, they actually seem to be getting worse lol. I wish she had gone back to her original sound on One of the Boys. I thought she could have had a proper comeback, I mean Olivia Rodrigo has made that sound popular again. m.youtube.com/watch?v=wdGZBRAwW74

Il inclined to agree her albums overall are a long way from being truly great artistic achievements (and I’m focusing that under the lens of pop greatness, not holding her to some weird alternative/experimental standard or something). Prism is by far the closest, since it’s close to being a worthwhile start to finish listen with several pop gems sprinkled in. Even then, a lot of it is still fairly disposable pop bops. But the others (including TD) are mostly a few gems, a few crimes against music, and a whole lot of generic stuff. Even TD, half of the smashes didn’t age well.

Which half of the TD singles didn't age well?
I feel like all 6 of them have become pop classics at this point. I was less sure about "E.T." but not anymore after the VMA performance.

The more I listen to it, the more I love it! Same! Also thank you for being a genuinely positive presence in this thread! The more I listen the more frustrated I get that she released Woman’s World as the lead instead of ALL THE LOVE as the first single. I feel like the lyrics fit the theme of the album better and really describe Katy’s current state of mind. It also feels satisfying that she feels so loved and fulfilled with Orlando and Daisy because we’ve been following her journey since Travie McCoy and his drugs messed up their relationship to the infamous Russell Brand divorce text moment in the Part of Me movie. I feel like she missed an opportunity to be real and have a genuine moment rather than whatever the heck Woman’s World was supposed to be. I’m truly happy for her !!

I really like 143 and am tired of people picking on Katy. Haters gonna hate hate hate... As Taylor says Shake it Off! Katy worked hard and tried and is moving on. She looks great and seems to be in a happy relationship so I think Katy will be fine. I bet her Lifetimes Tour smashes!!!!!!!!!

All the Love would’ve flopped as bad if not worse. At least WW had controversy and trainwreck allure going for it, ATL is just dated and instantly forgettable. IHHM was the only solid option for lead single.

this is actually pretty cool. I can't explain how, but I think Lifetimes with different production (and some lyrics) would be a big hit.

Lol no? by different production I meant much less basic edm, and much more REAL instruments, and by some lyrics I meant in the verse because they're cheesy af and the song would have two verses, instead of one.

Thats the only one on the album where I’ve thought there is “something” there for a hit, but it feels far too much in “demo” form to quite know for sure if it could’ve worked. As a fully realized song, I could see it having gone either way for hit potential. Which is surely more than I can say for the rest of these songs…
