You might be right but remember everyone was saying the same thing about Bruno, yet that hit #1 before it had practically any radio (and overall it never received much radio its entire run).

And from what I understand, RUTH will actually be featured throughout the entire season, not just the finale again, so that should provide much sustained interest.

I think #2 is pretty doable for RUTH, As It Was and First Class are gonna hit a ceiling eventually on both radio and streaming, #1 is a bit more tricky to predict, especially if someone big ends up dropping soon.

I think it could eventually hit #1 if it sticks around long enough to be given the opportunity, like coasting on streaming until radio picks it up or until Strangers Thing returns next month. We'll see.

i mean, bruno's main competition was a song that had peaked a long time ago in streaming and was fueled by nonstop radio play.

#3 is definitely gonna happen if it continues to be streamed, basically the whole Top 10 is shaky aside from Harry Styles and Jack Harlow. First Class seems to have peaked on streaming however it's inexplicably gaining on radio like crazy, but again both that song and As It Was will eventually hit a ceiling and it'll allow Kate to get the #1 spot.

This all relies on streaming, we saw with Bruno earlier this year that a song doesn't need radio to get #1 but there's a high chance RUTH will just be a fad and run outta steam in like 2 weeks. If that's the case, I don't see it getting anywhere near #1. It's all a game of "what if."

Then there's Lizzo, About Damn Time is definitely an eventual radio #1 and it hasn't peaked on streaming yet. Along with the boost from Lizzo's album in July, I see that also being a huge challenger to Kate.

"RUTH" has been reserviced to radio, so let's see what happens! Given how many huge songs in the past few years - "Stay," a lot of Harry's album, and most especially "Blinding Lights" - are so heavily 80's influenced to the extent that they sound like they come from that era, an actual synth-based 80's song, especially one that wasn't a huge hit at the time and wasn't so overexposed that it's linked to that era (as something like "Take On Me" or "Never Gonna Give You Up" would be), it just may have a shot at significant radio play!

I highly doubt the war or inflation is the reason pop music is so flow this year. The Invasion of Iraq, 9/11, Katrina, The Market Crash of 08, the goddamn pandemic, I could go on and on listening terrible events after another but the point is that awful things don't prevent music from being big moments.

When people say pop culture is correlated to politics and the economy, for the most part, they mean that it's shaped by the culture.

No, ADT will still get to #1 once the hype on RUTH fades. That said, I really don’t care anymore if ADT gets to #1, just as long as something prevents As It Was from getting more weeks at #1. I’ll be fine with First Class, Wait For U, or anything really except for AIW. Pretty much anything is better than AIW.

The bigger problem is that RCA does an extremely bad job at promoting radio singles. They’ve been known to practically sabotage the runs of well-liked songs like Midnight Sky and Wild Side, and now the same thing is happening to SAIWB.
