Kelis isn't credited as a writer on that song as far as I know. So NO Beyoncé didn't owe Kelis sh*t because she simply doesn't own the publishing of the song. She should re-direct her anger to Pharrell and Chad and move along. If she's that mad she can take her ass to court and file a lawsuit she'll 100% lose. I think you missed the point. Kelis' point isn't legal but more about respect. I'm really excited about this album. I truly love and respect Beyoncé, but damn, this story brings back so many bad memories. How many artists at Beyonce's level have that many scandals about stealing songs and song writing credits? Same thing with each album. It sucks. |

When you've already been ripped off financially of the work you've done for years, it hits that much harder when your work's been sampled for a major release and no one even notifies you. Just listened to the songs on the album. It does not remind me anything of Erotica, Janet., or the The Velvet Rope like the others had mentioned. 🤷🏾♀️ It's actually more in line with "BEYONCE" and "Lemonade" albums. More talking/rapping and less singing. "Virgo's Groove" and "Summer Renaissance", along with "Break My Soul" are the only ones that really stood out to me the most. Church Girl is decent.

"VIRGO'S GROVE" -- GIVE ME THOSE "EMOTIONS" HARMONIES IN THE BACK HALF.
I usually roll my eyes when I see a song is 6 minutes long, but she is one of the rare mainstream artists that can flip that typical song structure that never once makes you check how much time is left before the next track.

When that dark beat drops in "THIQUE" in the first chorus. Literal goosebumps. Reminds me of the drop in "Bad Guy." This one is a fucking vibe. The way the production evolves throughout and grows stronger as it progresses and ends on that softer note. Jesus.

There’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the sound she’s going for here. “PURE/HONEY” being watered down “Godzilla Ha” would be funny if it wasn’t so frustrating that she’s the first mainstream artist to touch “The Ha Dance” in any capacity. “BREAK MY SOUL” was fun, but that’s it.
This is not a Madonna album. This is definitely not a Janet album. It’s a P!nk corporate pride album, lmao.
ETA: “THIQUE” comes so, so close to being good. A decent edit/rework and it would be. All the right materials are there, she just didn’t know when to dial it back on this one.

Heated until the very end(Summer Renaissance) is a spiritual experience. Reminds me of my early of age days, “oh sure I’ll go to the gay bar with you, straight guys do that”. /3 hours later sucking peen behind the bar.
But really, the whole album goes together so so good.
