Pretty funny how just two weeks ago we were talking about a house revival/90s revival in the mainstream thanks to Drake and Beyonce and now, the only song from Drake's album with any real longevity is the straight-forward hip-hop track and Beyonce's comeback hasn't had the big streaming numbers we expected I'm glad, the GP doesn't want recycled old styles. EDIT: I see people are upset about this. I'm also 100% here for a return of upbeat party stuff on the charts, but it needs to be something NEW. Like say... hyperpop? 1. Hyperpop will NEVER go mainstream. Not only because most acts are counter-culture and underground (not to mention, extremely queer) but that it doesn't work well within a mainstream context. 2. Why are you so against old genres being brought back or retro sounding songs? I highly doubt you solely listen to new, experimental forward thinking music so why should everyone else? I mean the best song on the charts is a 37 year old classic so maybe make good songs popular first before you cry about there not being "new" genres on the charts It's like you like people giving you s**t. It's okay to say you were wrong.when has that ever happened on here Do we need to say every wrong prediction he's had or do you want anytime you've been corrected on something?

I understand what you're saying about hyperpop, I guess hyperpop's TOO weird for our current culture BUT... I could see ironic music being a thing in the future, maybe by the end of the decade. Gen Z is all about being weird My joke was also self-deprecating. I'm self aware

Biggest Gains (50K+): Chicken Fried, Master of Puppets, Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)
Pretty cool Stranger Things revived two 80s classics. I hope the revival of Running Up That Hill and Master of Puppets proves why I don't care about charts in the current and how meaningless charts are in the long run in terms of deciding what'll be remembered or resonate by people in the future. Neither song were big hits back when they first dropped - hell, the only Metallica's song to chart in the 80s was One which peaked at #35 and they only got a Top 10 hit in 1996. And yet they're more fondly remembered and are considered masterpieces more than maybe 80% of what made the year-end of 1986.
Also personally would've chosen something from Ride the Lightning but eh, Master of Puppets is still a great song.

US Spotify - 07/02/2265( +56) Zac Brown Band - Chicken FriedΒ 341,282 ( +59,304) Biggest Gains (50K+): Chicken Fried Why did Chicken Fried gain? I'm not complaining, it's a good song, but why? 4th of July weekend. Itβs why a bunch of other country songs plus some of the usual suspects like Party In The USA and Fortunate Son came back or debuted.

Not as big of a boost as I was hoping. Although it's possible it may increase in tomorrow's update too? It looks to have stalled on Apple Music at #7. It's back to #1 on iTunes with a decent lead though and it is increasing well in airplay still. Unless it manages to do very high sales/gets another boost in tomorrow's spotify update, it doesn't look like it'll challenge for #1. Hopefully it'll manage a new peak in the top 3. If RUTH doesnβt go to #1 on this chart, Billboard needs to makeover the Hot 100 formula. There is no way this wasnβt the biggest song in the country this tracking week.

I sincerely doubt that Billboard wants to further weaken airplay given how it's already in a big low point, and how much the labels don't want Billboard to further weaken the format they have the most sway in.

If "Running Up The Hill" continues to do well/remains fairly stable in streams and keeps climbing in airplay it's entirely possible it could manage a week or two at #1 in the coming weeks while "As It Was"/"First Class" decrease in points. The main competition will be from Lizzo with her album boost for "About Damn Time" and BeyoncΓ© with the video for "Break My Soul" and the album release. I'm not sure about Drake as "Jimmy Crooks" is still doing well but is falling and its sales/airplay are both pretty non-existent which works in Kate's favour. "Wait For U" is quite a bit behind Kate on spotify, although ahead on Apple Music/ in airplay. Although Kate's airplay is catching up fast and she's ahead in sales.
So unless there's a massive surprise release/viral song or a song from Lizzo/BeyoncΓ©'s albums becomes massive out the gate (entirely possible for BeyoncΓ©, especially if she drops a music video or two), it looks like the road is clear for Kate Bush to get to #1 in a few weeks as long as its streams stay stable and its airplay continues to rise?

If Running Up That Hill carries on getting airplay and goes like top 10 on all its formats it could be challenging for #1 later down the line. It's clear by now it's streaming won't freefall after these episodes because it stayed fairly stable for weeks after the previous ones. Probably unlikely it will get to #1 but not impossible even if it misses this week. I mean, if RUTH ends up going to #2 this week and ends up staying stable for next week it could very well go to number one based off inertia alone, though i think this and next week are the only chances it might have as Lizzo is gonna pull all the stops to get About Damn Time a week at number one once her album releases and Beyonce can't hold on not releasing the Break My Soul video forever.

Wait for U is back to #1 on US AM. Drake has now had the most dominant songs on AM in 2015 (Back to Back), 2016 (One Dance), 2018 (God's Plan), 2019 (No Guidance), 2021 (Wants and Needs) & 2022 (Wait for U). All i gotta say is that iβm really both surprised and impressed that Jimmy Cooks held up this long against it. I guess to beat one Drake song we need another Drake song to do it.

(So far so good) it seems like Jimmy Cooks has stabilized on Spotify so it should be enough to keep it as a mainstay in the Hot 100 top 20 for the foreseeable future. If I'm Drake, as soon as Sticky starts to peak on Urban/Rhythmic radio, I'll push Jimmy Cooks as the next single on those formats. That's the mistake he made with Wants and Needs that didn't give it a chance to remain on the charts longer.

Question since hyper pop has been discussed, Iβd say I have a *decent* understanding of what that genre means. But, has there been any hits stateside yet that would be considered hyper pop? No, not one. 100 Gecs have some pretty notable views on YT, & (IMO) the song Stay is kinda like hyperpop, but that's about it for the genre's relevance so far
