Kicking off the extras is the biggest hit by this band from Philadelphia. It topped the disco chart and peaked at #9 on the soul chart, but initially stalled at #53 on the Hot 100. After its inclusion on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, it was re-released and fared much better on the Hot 100, peaking at #11. The song was later covered by Tina Turner and Cyndi Lauper.

Today's extras are actually the same song, but by two different acts. They were on the charts at the same time, even entering the soul chart the same week. The Mississippi-born bassist who wrote it took his version to #23 on the soul chart.
Be My Girl - Michael Henderson
Michael started out touring with Stevie Wonder and then Miles Davis, who reportedly told Stevie "I'm taking your f**king bassist" after seeing him perform at the Copacabana.
The version by this group from Detroit was the more successful version, peaking at #3 soul and was produced by Michael Henderson himself.

Fascinating how Michael Henderson produced a version that outdid his own version on the charts - in the same year. (I have to give the edge to the Dramatics too). He had a song on the soundtrack to About Last Night (watch it if you haven't seen it) that I always loved. He sounded great. Very 80's R&B, IMO.

"You're no tramp, but you're no lady..."
Everything from the 70's was a little bit extra. This song included.
Good song, makes me want to put on my polyester leisure suit.

Today's extras are from their Go For Your Guns album. The album's third single peaked at #50 on the soul chart and is a quiet storm staple.
Voyage To Atlantis - The Isley Brothers
This song wasn't released as a single, but it's one of their most well-known songs largely due to being sampled, most notably by Ice Cube in "It Was a Good Day". The group Body also covered it, taking their version into the Top 10 of the R&B chart.

Just submitted. A few of my ranks felt sacreligiously low for the artist, but boy they were snoozers/nowhere near their best work. On the other hand, it felt good to finally give some high rankings to a legend whose 80's work I had been ranking rather low.

I just got through these songs and sent my list!
There were some great classics I loved here. Then some classics that I knew but didn't know by artist/song title name, as someone else said. Then some I didn't know at all. It was fun listening to them all and ranking them together. Excited to see how this list goes!
