Okay, I just noticed that 'Hollywood's Bleeding' was certified this month for 4x platinum. It's SPS is over 6.5 mil! Very strange stuff here between that and the 'I Am Sasha Fierce' discrepancy.

Where are you getting the 6.5+ million total? 2019 - 3 million2020 - 1.9 million Surely it did a lot less in 2021 than in 2020.

2021- 1.1 mil 2022- 500K+
OldBloke at UKMix had it at 342K this year towards the end of May, and it has been doing at least 15K a week since then so could be closer to 600K, actually.
Regardless, it was definitely over 6 mil SPS when it was certified so it seems very strange they would not certify it 6x platinum.

Sunflower counts for the Spiderman Soundtrack with RIAA. That's over 1.3 million+ units (eligible for at least 13x Platinum). Once you remove that and consider the RIAA formula slightly lowers streaming units for all albums (dividing all streams equally by 1500, when most streams are overwhelmingly paid now and Billboard divides paid by 1250) it makes sense that it is below 5 million with RIAA.

New Diamond single: LIL BABY AND GUNNA Title: DRIP TOO HARDCertification Date: September 12, 2022 Label: QUALITY CONTROL MUSIC / MOTOWN RECORDS Format: SINGLE 10x PlatinumThis takes me back to what I originally questioned. This song did well on the Hot 100 (No. 4 peak, 35 weeks total on chart) and subsequently spent 15 weeks on the Hot 100 Recurrents chart. So, some certification is not surprising. But, diamond for a song that has not registered any chart activity on Billboard's primary charts for over three years?!? Even if this song was not purchased or streamed since 2019, it could not have registered that many sales or streams at its peak to have earned 10 million units.

Drip Too Hard has over 1 billion plays at Spotify: 1,026,921,094. That's probably why it is Diamond.
It went 9xP in May 2021.

I wonder if streaming was in the 60s-today, what songs would've went diamond. I can see That's What Friends Are For, We Are The World, Material Girl, and On My Own to name a few
Maybe for 70s...Le Freak, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, Ring My Bell...who knows

Imagine some of the songs that are currently Diamond with another 20 years of streams.

Usher's My Way just got certified 7x platinum, but his other albums likely need updating as well. Here are Soundscan totals:
Confessions - 9.52 million as of 2008; it has passed 10 million in sales now but is 'only' 10x platinum so it should be 11-12x platinum 8701 - 4.61 million as of 2008; this album has a higher Soundscan total than My Way yet is only 4x platinum so it should be 6-7x platinum
Additionally I believe Looking 4 Myself has sold enough to be Gold.

Albums SPS from February:
My Way 5,037,000 8701 - 5,453,000 Confesssons - 13,046,000 Here I Stand 2,287,000 Looking 4 Myself 1,203,000 Hard II Love 475,000
I don't have the ones for RvR or his debut.

Even with the 800k BMG sales added in, that's over 1 million short of 7x platinum. I've never really thought about what a huge drop he suffered from Confessions to Here I Stand.

YESSSS MY GIRLS SWV!!! I forgot to put that Weak was 3x platinum eligible. The others I was not sure about.
And hooray for Nelly Furtado. I think in digital sales it sold around 3M and I'm glad to see it's doing well and on it's way to diamond. Maneater, I'm surprised speaking that it wasn't really that big in the States and same with AGTCTAE. Ig...Turn Off The Lights and Give It To Me did not survive the test of time

The album "Loose" is eligible for 2 times Platinum. Good old fashioned album sales are at 2.1 million.
Actually with the new single certs, it's probably eligible for 3 times Platinum!

Nelly has been eligible for 2x platinum status since 2007. Promiscuous and Say It Right helped it sell 1M each in the US. If Maneater was allowed to have it's moment, it probably would've been 3x platinum eligible from sales alone

It's in the top 5 most streamed songs on Apple Music ever, and has another 1.5 billion from YouTube/Spotify + it's a local Hip-Hop song meaning majority of streams are from US. The units are completely legit.

YESSSS MY GIRLS SWV!!! I forgot to put that Weak was 3x platinum eligible. The others I was not sure about. Where did that 3x platinum come from? It was 1x platinum before. It has solid streams for an R&B song, but not overly great (190 million Spotify/YT which is just over 1 million in certification but only if all of those are U.S. streams). The success "Maneater" had here was more off sales than airplay as it went top 10 in sales. I am surprised at 2x platinum, though.

I am not disputing it as much as I'm just wondering where the SPS is coming from. Does that site break down streams vs sales?

Does she not have any albums that are due? Interesting it was all singles, though I think all of her albums were updated not that long ago.

Some 1998 hits that should be updated: "The Boy is Mine" had sold 2.6 million as of 1998, so with streams and digital sales it's at least 3x platinum if not 4x platinum (it's currently 1x platinum). Next's "Too Close" had sold 2.1 million as of 1998, so it should be at least 2x platinum and maybe more (it's currently 1x platinum). Mariah's "My All" has sold nearly 1.5 million physical copies, so with digital sales and streams added in it's definitely 2x platinum (it's currently 1x platinum).

My All and Too Close I don't know the data for those “TBIM” must have had good digital sales because its streams are not it. Its YouTube and Spotify streams aren’t overly great, and Nielsen said as of mid-2020 it had 117 million U.S. streams. That was equal to 780,000 in sales so 3.4 million total when added to the physical sales. With 2 more years of streams added in, it would probably still need close to 1 million in digital sales to be at 4.6 million SPS. As of mid-2020 “Too Close” had 151 million U.S. streams. That’s equal to another 1 million in sales, so 3.1 million total when added to the physical sales. With digital sales and 2 more years of streams, it might be near 4x platinum.

ABBA's "Gold" was released 30 years ago yesterday.
It was certified 6xPlat in June 2002, over 20 years ago.
February 2003 Catalog chart:
48. ABBA|GOLD-GREATEST HITS 4187 4064 3,134,847 - 6xPlat
February 2022 sales:
Pure album sales: 6,280,000 - 6xPlat
That's 3.1 million copies sold since 2003. Definitely eligible for 9xPlat with the RIAA.
Probably eligible for Diamond...

Probably eligible for Diamond... It had sold 884k when we got that BMG list, which gets it to 4 million in 2003 with the Soundscan sales added in. I wonder where the other 2 million came from for the cert. Sarah McLachlan's "Adia" is certified Gold, but as of the end of 1998 it had sold 900k so clearly it's at least Platinum now with digital sales and streams. Faith Hill's "Breathe" was certified Gold in 2000, and then the digital single was certified Gold in 2009. At a minimum they could combine those two to be Platinum. Mase/Total's "What You Want" was certified Gold, but it had sold 900k at the end of 1998. Clearly it's at least Platinum now with digital sales and streams.
