Far more of the average general public is going to recognize a radio driven hit than a streaming driven hit. I'm somewhat skeptical of this - no one I know listens to radio. And when music discourse happens, it seems like it follows more with streaming hits than radio hits (like, more people talking about RUTH than ADT right now) - at least, on social media. Is it a demographic thing - do a lot less old people stream than I assume?

It's just convenient and includes more than just music. It's also habitual, especially for those of us who grew up with radio as the main source of music. I'm not seeking out new music on radio, but I enjoy the familiarity of it. And as I get older, advertisements have become pretty useful tbh. I don't listen to radio anywhere but in the car for the most part, and it's never for too long at a time.

Is Bam Bam a hit? On that note, I gotta go and meet an editing deadline , so have fun lol It peaked just outside the top twenty, is poised to hit the YE even in a weak year like this one is shaping up to, so yes, I would consider it a hit. I don't think it's a massive hit by any means, but it certainly checks the boxes to be at least a "moderate hit" as a "YE hit."

I don't if someone posted about the early predictions because the forum is buggy again but something very strange is happening. this country singer (that i haven't known who he was after I checked Wikipedia lol) released a song and apparently got many copies sold for making a top 25-10 debut it's just another stupid right-wing #MAGA song lol we've seen this happen several times over the last few years. hopefully it has a chart run similar to Tom MacDonald and Aaron Lewis songs at best and doesn't stain this pretty solid Top 10. EDIT: this is the song btw. don't even give it a stream

He has a number one Billboard crossover hit with Lonestar (Amazed) and he’s half of the band who made Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) which is probably the most played country song at frat parties of non country music listeners across America and has long cultural relevance

I don't think it's appreciated enough the past 12 months Tems has had Top 10 hit with Essence Number one single thanks to being sampled Working with Drake by being on Certified Lover Boy now being on the Black Panther 2 soundtrack and she'll be on Renaissance this Friday Other acts have had a better year, no doubt, but she's the breakout act of this year I agree. While she’s not completely smashing with a multi week #1 with close to record breaking numbers and cultural impact like all of the breakout acts of the past 3 years, all of these factors you mentioned have really nice strengths on their own. It also reminds us that not everything or everyone has to always be a big smash for them to leave an impact on a certain year or time period.

Considering radio’s avoidance of playing too many songs that its listeners might be unfamiliar with, I’d agree that people are more likely to recognize a radio hit than streaming hit.

You also need to be the last one to say anything when you have stated You Right and Heartless are not hits. They have way better certifications than Happier Than Ever, so that is what I mean about people on here being hypocrites. I am aware that you hate The Weeknd because he used to beat you up for your lunch money, but you still need to have objectivity Provide a link to where this was stated. Yeah, no. You can spend your time searching for that. It is probably around the time that Dawn FM came out because that is when you were just stating a bunch of nonsense. Just start with the threads around then

No Role Modelz has a diamond certification, the real signifier of what a hit is. So yeah, that is a hit. I am not even using Billboard as a measure of what is a hit since their charts are not an accurate reflection of what the general public is listening to to be honest. You have a song called Numb Little Bug that is sitting in the top twenty of Billboard despite not being on a streaming chart anywhere. I guarantee you that if you play the song to people on the street, ten out of ten people are not going to recognize that song. Billboard is wholly inaccurate because of imaginary "airplay impressions" they use, and that is why the ratings for their awards show are an embarrassment every year. People are not paying attention to Billboard to see what is a hit But it's a Billboard Hot 100 thread, not a general music thread... Then, why are people bringing up European Spotify numbers? I just stated that the song is not a hit, and Billboard is not the ultimate assessment of that. It is even more true when 99% of the population is not even paying attention to Billboard. Even if you use Billboard as your basis, its chart run there is not the greatest

Just start with the threads around then How would I search for something that never was said? You for some reason start resorting to making fake statements when you get angry (ala the creepy Weeknd fan-fiction you inserted at the end of that same post being further proof) - Happier Than Ever was a HIT and some will have to deal.

Is there a rule in Pulse against making up false statements about others? Honestly, there should just be a rule against pointless arguments like this in the hot 100 threads. Take that shit somewhere else.

Take that s**t somewhere else. "pointless arguments" are a lot less subjective because what is or isn't pointless differs for everyone, even amongst mods. Making false accusations that people said this or that, that's a lot more provable however

The only real upset for #1 on the Hot 100 this year so far is Wait For U on its debut week beating out As It Was, when AIW was in Week 5 and at its peak. Harry’s team didn’t realize they were getting beat until it was too late, as evidenced by them putting out a limited edition digital download with alternative cover on Thursday to try to hold on to #1.
You could make the case for WDTAB beating out EOM, on what would have been EOM’s 11th week at #1, but EOM had been declining for weeks and far past its peak by that point.
Wait For U beating AIW is something I didn’t see coming, well at least until after the tracking week was over.

Anyone think Jax could have a hit or debut on the hot 100 with Victorias Secret? It’s blowing up on TikTok and it’s a very clever song, currently #3 on iTunes. Cheering for her cuz she’s an excellent songwriter and has been trying to have a hit for a while.

Bad Habit is starting to gain a bit of traction on radio, so that should help it in the long run.
