Drake, who typically makes rap music, surprise-released an entire dance album β something his fanbase never asked for or expected. I don't know how anyone seriously expected it to perform the way his albums usually do. People keep comparing Honestly, Nevermind's performance to that of albums released by artists who stuck to their usual sound and it's not the same thing. The commercial performance of Honestly, Nevermind is not an accurate reflection of Drake's current commercial standing. Implying that it is, is being disingenuous. Drake always used dance hall in his music. One Dance is one of his biggest hits. Having a whole album of it isnβt as much as a shock like you think it is. If anything a surprise album should have better longevity because it had a lower debut. It isnβt fully representative of Drakeβs commercial standing I agree, but it would have way better longevity if the album was, idk, good. I believe Honestly Nevermind would have better longevity if Drake chose the right single (like Jimmy Cooks or Sticky) to push on radio. Iβll never really understand why Drake pushed Massive because that was awful and not single material. Even Currents would have done better than Massive.

Dancehall and what Drake made on Honestly, Nevermind aren't the same thing. I don't know how you're drawing an equivalence but okay.
