I've honestly never been all that infatuated with "Anti-Hero." It's a good track, but probably middle of the pack for me for Taylor Swift songs. As far as lead singles go, I never got quite into it like I did with "Love Story," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "Shake It Off," and "Look What You Made Me Do." Not that I believe all four of them are better, I just remember being obsessed with each of those tracks and that never happened to me with "Anti-Hero." I honestly don't think I'll be revisiting "Anti-Hero" all that much as time marches on, most of Midnights is much more appealing to me. But as far as my own personal opinion of quality at the moment, "Anti-Hero" would rank below "Love Story," "Look What You Made Me Do," and "willow" and pretty much ties with "cardigan" and "Mine." "Lavender Haze," on the other hand, I've kind of bizarrely gotten obsessed with in the past couple weeks. I'm kinda the same. But I still enjoy Anti-Hero anytime I hear it. I remember my first listen of Lavender Haze, originally I thought it was boring. But it's gotten stuck in my head maybe even more times than Anti-Hero at this point!

I wouldn't pull an Ed Sheeran and say "Anti-Hero" is one of the best pop songs ever written, but I do think "Anti-Hero" is one of Taylor's best singles. I love everything about it tbh. It's like a cousin to "Blank Space" in my mind. lol

Team Anti-Hero overall, even if it's mid on the album for me. As a first single, it does what it needs to do. Shake It Off (and Me!, even more so) is Kids Bop, Look was...not Taylor, and the older first singles are whatever at this point. I think Cardigan and Willow are God-tier Taylor 1st singles but everlore has a very special place in my heart, even if Midnights is my forever mood.

Getaway Car doing 722k is crazy mother of Cruel Summer did that Don't Blame Me and Getaway Car doing 2M combined, top two songs, while not being singles, and the 4 singles totaling less than those two...

When GC keeps growing and becomes a Global Spotify staple like its daughter It's what the trinity deserves. Poor End Fame tho

It's like a cousin to "Blank Space" in my mind. lol I feel like Anti Hero is related to Blank Space as well. Blank Space was more how the world/tabloids sees her, Anti Hero is how how she sees herself. My personal ranking of first singles 1). Cardigan 2). Anti Hero 3). Willow 4). Look What You Made Me Do 5). Shake It Off 6). We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together 7). Mine 8). Love Story 9).Tim McGraw 10). ME Cardigan and Anti Hero are in my top ten Taylor Songs. Willow and Look are very high up. The rest kinda just fall in the middle of the pack. ME is one of her biggest embarrassments ever... especially when Cruel Summer was waiting on deck. Almost couldn't forgive her, but then Folklore came and I had to shut up haha.

I know she’s hyper-aware of what people/fans have to say. Has she ever said anything or hinted at knowing about how big of a misstep releasing “ME!” was? Just curious, as she’s seemed to pick much better lead singles since that absolute blunder.

I remember seeing some documentary or behind the scenes thing at the time that included the creation process of Me and she really seemed genuine about thinking it was something amazing that would be huge. I remember watching it and genuinely not understanding given her previous output and the other content available on the same album. I think it’s just one of those rare instances where she was not at all in tune with what fans wanted from her and it does seem like she has worked hard at course correcting that ever since. I also think she was trying hard launch the Lover era as far away sonically from Reputation as possible. New label, coming out of a darker time, etc. I think maybe she thought we wanted bright and cheerful after a darker album, when all I think any of us actually want is her authentic self. Maybe she thought that’s what Me was and maybe it is, but it just doesn’t come across that way.

I don't think Taylor publicly said anything however she did have the "spelling is fun" line removed when the 'Lover' album was released. So it didn't take long for her to realize people didn't like it.

I rewatched it recently and had the same thoughts as you during that segment.

What's the point of pushing a song already "smashing" on its own?

What’s so appealing about Cruel Summer? I just don’t see it as a smash.

I'm OK with "Karma" as a single, but I can also understand the love for an older song that never got a chance.

Maybe she should release both as singles and see which one takes off faster. I have a gut feeling she already has Cruel Summer MV on standby. OR do you release Cruel Summer at the end of Summer since everyone hates the end of Summer.

What's the point of pushing a song already "smashing" on its own? I wouldn’t call not charting on the Hot 100 “smashing”

The only music video she has on standby is for Karma, the new single! What about the video she just shot? It would seem to me that Karma would have been completed when AH, B, and LH were. If so, I’d say the newly shot video is either for Vigilante Shit or something from Speak Now TV.

I wouldn’t call not charting on the Hot 100 “smashing” Pretty sure it would be charting if it wasn't for recurrent rules and in 2023 the hot 100 is cute but not everything Anyways, the song is aiming for 500m streams on Spotify in a year. Call that whatever you want

Too many things happening.

By that logic, you could say Void by Melanie Martinez was a smash hit

Void by Melanie Martinez is not going to pull anywhere close to 500m streams on Spotify, let alone in 12 months We can agree to disagree!

If so, I’d say the newly shot video is either for Vigilante s**t or something from Speak Now TV. It’s entirely possible the original plan was for the first 3 to be the 3 singles but she pushed the Bejeweled video out early to ensure a Top 10 peak, and “Karma” is a fan favorite so it makes sense to pivot to it instead of Bejeweled.
