I knew someone would bring up "Lover", but "Lover" wasn't what I'd call a huge hit. Did anyone refer to "Lover" as being a huge hit? I'm talking a huge hit ballad in the traditional sense of a hit single (hugely successful on all fronts: radio, streaming, Hot 100, downloads etc). Like an "Anti-Hero", "Shake It Off" sized hit. Like an "Easy On Me", "Without You" etc. She has yet to have a ballad on that level and the closest is "Wildest Dreams" . Like "Cardigan" is headed toward a billion streams and no one thinks of it as a "huge hit", at least I haven't seen anyone here or elsewhere say as much. Most people felt like it snuck a week in at #1 like "Willow" at the time. Btw I used "White Horse" as an example because it is a ballad in the most traditional sense and when released it was a huge hit on its code format on all metrics. Of course it doesn't have as many streams it wasn't released when streaming was booming and it's one of her earlier country tracks that didn't crossover. lol Well I certainly do. I think it would be absurd to claim that a song that is Top 100 on Global Spotify right now is not a huge hit. It was big on TikTok and is constantly going viral in new markets (Recently charted in Brazil and Peru). Both Lover and Cardigan will end up at least 5x platinum. You'll have a hard time convincing anyone they aren't huge because some radio programmers didn't spam them on radio, a dying metric. Times have changed and I think it's important to consider that. Btw what's Without You? Halsey. And sure its streams are impressive, but it still didn't fit what I was referencing in terms of performing exceptionally well on all metrics. Like have you heard anyone mention it in the same breath as "Shake It Off" or "Anti-Hero" or "You Belong With Me" as one of Taylor's huge hits? I haven't. Same with "Lover". Maybe that will change in time, but I haven't seen it. Baiting someone to question a song? Girl, what?! Lol I was literally just wondering why after so many years this woman who has so many incredible ballads hasn't had one hit in the same way her biggest uptempos have. That's it. I cited "Wildest Dreams" as well. Stop painting a narrative where there isn't one. |

For that time period, it was released and was a #1 country radio hit (which was a big deal at the time), and performed great on all other metrics as well. It's a time and perspective thing. I even said I wasn't referring to country but to mainstream/pop regardless. Super simple to understand. And there are levels to it. Which is why I specifically questioned why she hasn't had a ballad that's been a "huge" hit. I've referenced examples of what level of hit I am talking about in several posts now. Does she have a ballad on the hit level of "Shake It Off" or "Anti-Hero"? How about "You Belong With Me"? I'd argue she does not and I was merely questioning why and hoping she had one coming. Why must things be made so difficult on this forum. lol |

I wouldn't say "Lover" was huge per se, sadly, but it has had great legs like it's parent album. I think it will stand out better with time, while stuff like "Karma" might have peaked higher but will be forgotten quickly. It doesn't hurt that it's one of her best tracks ever imo.

I love "You're Losing Me". Giving me "Snow On The Beach" ("all for you like Janet" vibes melodically at parts. Gives more insight into her relationship too. Should've made the standard album IMO (though I understand why it didn't given the lyrics). I also love the silence in the chorus (as if he's losing her with his silence).

Where do I begin with “You’re Losing Me”. Do I start at her once again sampling her actual heartbeat, the way she did with “Wildest Dreams,” giving this song the rawest form of vulnerability possible? Or what about the lyrical call-backs to nearly every song she wrote about this man, even “Cruel Summer”? How about that F**KING BRIDGE…
Even by Taylor Swift’s standards, this is impeccable songwriting. I’d argue that the bridge is one of her best ever, and that this song is certainly in the Top 5 of her saddest. Incredibly moving song.
It better be on streaming by the end of this tour, istg…

Edit: GOD-TIER TAYLOR. Wow. Excellent song. Also, it's ENTIRELY possible she wrote this song during Midnights. For all we know, she and Joe might have had problems for a while. I mean...it's definitely her longest relationship, real or otherwise and maybe things had started to fall apart a while back. Either way, what a song.
Edit X2: Wait. Both Karma and Snow On The Beach are better than their respective originals. Never heard Ice Spice before but she added swag and a little something extra and also, it sounds like Karma was touched up a bit because it SOUNDS better. As for Snow, great call to add more Lana but it just magnifies the fact that she shoulda had that much of a role in the original, LOL.

The bridge of "You're Losing Me" is fantastic. I really wish the rest of the song was at that level.
SOTB is an improvement with more Lana. Should have always been that way!
Ice Spice does not work on Karma. Her clunky flow fights against the production IMO. She should have nabbed a rapper with a stronger sense of rhythm.

You're Losing Me is great.Nice to get another new track in the middle of the Midnights Era. The Karma remix and new version of Snow On The Beach are also great. Just noticed the Target remixes of You"re On Your Own Kid and Sweet Nothing are also missing from Spotify. Great to have Hits Different on there but why not add those two the same time as those tracks.
