It's really cool to see this song getting such a strong start within its first week of radio play.

I really like this sound on them! I hope this strong start is a sign they can get out of a commercial rut & shock us with a semi-hit again.

Another rock band trying to sound like modern pop. Like mixing chocolate milk with orange juice. 1 star.

Another rock band trying to sound like modern pop. Like mixing chocolate milk with orange juice. 1 star. It’s no more “pop” than “Ain’t It Fun” or “Hard Times”. Don’t get your panties in a bunch gatekeeper.

Honestly I thought this was more rock than anything Paramore did in the 2010’s but whatever.

Yea I don't know what the hell sadchild is talking about either. If anything the two comparisons that came to mind for me were Franz Ferdinand and Broken Social Scene lol

This is probably one of the most retro sounding tracks they've ever recorded. Not sure what's modern pop about it. And even so, pop and rock have been bedfellows since the dawn of the genre. Nothing more boring than a genre purist.

I liked the new direction Paramore has headed since their last album and this is a nice continuation of that style. Hoping for a top 10.

Not sure why you guys are bashing the pop tag on this. I totally hear Ariana Grande singing this. The resemblance is uncanny.

That Arianna Grade plug -in did anything but help, but After replaying this one a few more times I'm totaly on board. Reminds me a bit of a mix of styles between "Hard Times" and "Pool". My two favorite tracks off "After Laughter"

Thanks for the feedback all
1. It sounds a lot like Beck "Think I'm In Love". Couldn't place my finger on it on first listen. 2. Modern pop IS retro (most of it anyway). Thought we all knew this. "Get Lucky" "Poker Face" "Shut Up And Dance" "Uptown Funk" "Midnight City" etc etc 3. It IS more pop than "Ain't It Fun" - which is halfway between modern pop and early singles like "Misery Business". 4. Correct, it is NOT more pop than "Hard Times" - they were well into abandoning their early sound for modern pop by then. 5. This is NOT more rock than anything Paramore did in the 2010’s. Listen to "Monster".
Glad we could straighten this all out.
Oops, wait a sec
6. They're my panties and I can bunch them up all I want. I plan on singing backups for Elton on "Wrap Her Up" later this week, so I need them as tight as possible ;)

Regarding the genre debate - I suppose it all boils down to what "pop" means for you. If you're going strictly by the definition of "what's trendy right now", then yes, I suppose you could say this is more "pop" than their older stuff. But it seems like the rest of us are thinking more of pop as a genre/musical aesthetic that's distinct from what's commonly thought of as "rock", and this song definitely has more of a rock influence than "Ain't It Fun". Of course it's certainly possible for a song to be both at the same time - with this song and early tracks like "Misery Business" both being prime examples IMO. But I don't really think there was anything rock about "Ain't It Fun" at all.
All that aside, I haven't really been that into Paramore over the years, but this is definitely one of the better songs I've heard from them.

It’s just super distracting & annoying when a lot of bands’ fanbases treat any change in sound like they’re becoming the next Drake or something.

Their first Top 10er since "Brick By Boring Brick" made it in early 2010! Where did "Hard Times" peak? This I know cause I couldn't believe it didn't go top 10. #13 on Alt. I don't folllow POp HOT 100, but I 'll bet you my limited edition RED 'Cherry Pie' vinyl that it didn't even go top 50.

Where did "Hard Times" peak? It got one notch higher on Mediabase! I'll bet you ... that it didn't even go top 50. It did manage to get to #42 on Mediabase’s CHR/Pop.

this is...ok...i won't change the station when this comes on, but it doesn't sound as fun as the songs from their last album & it's not even close to the maturity that was displayed on her solo record...but still, not bad

i think the verses / pre chorus (ESPECIALLY the pre chorus), and the chorus are all good song fragments on their own but together they sound a bit. disjointed ? could be a grower though, i already liked it better on the second listen then the first
as for the genre debate -- i mean it's POPPY, esp in the chorus (rly only in the chorus tbh), but i wouldn't call it straight up pop by any stretch of the imagination, the guitars / bass / drums are way too audible for that. really the comment that caught me more off guard was the one abt them being able to imagine ariana singing this one ,,,, no shade but ?? huh ??
