Charts are laughably uncompetitive compared to this time last year: Kiss Me More (#8) would have been number one this week lol. Would be really awkward if As It Was broke Old Town Road's record. The fact that it's even possible is really weird in itself

This is your reminder that songs are not competing for chart placement against the hits of last year or last decade but instead with the other songs every week.

Rip Shivers. You will be missed.

I don't think As It Was is gonna break the record, it probably has about 3 more weeks in it at the most with Bad Habit on it's tail. By then BH should have enough radio built up to push it over the edge, and that's if Steve doesn't get sick of sitting at #2 and decides to drop a remix with a huge artist in the meantime.
Lil Baby and Taylor Swift are also on the way relatively shortly, so enough things are around to stop As It Was from sitting at #1 for another 6 weeks.

Whether the charts are moving constantly or completely static there will always be people that complain.

The fact that it's even possible is really weird in itself When Heat Waves is roughly around the same spot, one year later

The best I can see "As It Was" lasting is 17-18 weeks, dethroning "One Sweet Day"/"Despacito" on second place in most weeks at #1, but not enough to bypass "Old Town Road". "Bad Habit" could be on the verge on hitting #1 too, and Taylor/Lil Baby could get a #1 as well.

Yes. If we take out the top four CLB album bomb songs in their second week from the top 14 last year, which be considered an anomaly, Drake being Drake, this week's #9 and #10 would actually have slightly more points than the songs that would have occupied #9 and #10 without them. The range of points between the #1 and #10 for the current chart is 53 points, while last year's under the circumstances I mentioned would have been 199 points. One very big difference, is that Stay was still very strong #1 at that point last year (it was only in its 10th week in the Hot 100), while As It Was isn't (in its 23rd week in the Hot 100).

I doubt Lil Baby is gonna get a number-one hit from his album bomb barring he pulls an “I Never Liked You” and In A Minute gets it because it has airplay. Taylor’s a guarantee though.

Sorry, but what album? She got a hit because TikTok discovered the unreleased song (a cheap copy of a classic) from some festival 5 years ago. Congrats, a hit is still a hit, but don't act like it has anything to do with you or your album.

"but don't act like it has anything to do with you or your album" is the distinction between "Tiktok hits" and "real hits" I suppose? "Real hits" means artists themselves are popular and the hits push them to stardom, "Tiktok hits" means the song itself is popular and the artist would not have another hit again.

With Freestyle finally charting, it breaks the record for most weeks in the BU before charting on the Hot 100 (thanks to the TOTC community for gathering this list) 49 weeks, Freestyle – Lil Baby 29, Danza Kuduro – Don Omar & Lucenzo 27, Daughter/Yellow Ledbetter – Pearl Jam 27, Lush Life – Zara Larsson 25, On Top of the World – Imagine Dragons 25, I Like Me Better – Lauv (hit top 40) 25, Hello – Pop Smoke feat. A Boogie Wit da Hoodie 22, I'd Rather – Luther Vandross 22, Lonely If You Are – Chase Rice 21, Come Get Her – Rae Sremmurd 20, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites – Skrillex 20, Murder on My Mind – YNW Melly (made it all the way to #14)

Ok, but then by that logic one hit wonder songs aren't real hits either. So apparently Somebody That I Used To Know isn't a real hit, according to some of yall.

Pick Me Up by Gabby Barrett randomly dropped off the charts, looking at daily radio updates for the past tracking week, it doesn’t seem like it was rotated out by Nashville, anyone have an explanation for that?
