I have to admit some of the multiple-instrument sounds in this song make me chuckle.

Angelo Badalamenti's Twin Peaks score was essentially the starting point for the whole subgenre of "dark jazz"--a mix of film-noir-style jazz and dark ambient--and Bohren & der Club of Gore is one of its most popular adherents My condolences, Geometrical and annoymous1 11

This lineup is so stacked, and the vibraphone steals the show so hard. If you played me this song and told me the performer list without saying who the bandleader was, it would definitely me take at least a few tries to guess right. (Also not the last time you'll see Williams in this rankdown) Condolences to HamedM1 💔 10

Dinah set the early (meaning 1940s-60s) Billboard R&B charts on fire, scoring well over 30 Top 10s. This, a translation of a popular 1930s Mexican song called "Cuando vuelva a tu lado", was her first of 3 trips to the Hot 100 top 10 9

So much of the evolution of jazz in the mid-20th century can be owed to "Dizzy". In fact, he's the guy in the GIF I put in the first post of the first series! 8

I enjoy all of these songs but "Manteca" is the one song here that I would prefer a higher-quality recording of.

You could say Quincy had 2 of the most impactful music careers anyone's ever lived, within just a single lifetime: one as a jazz giant, and one as a pop superproducer. Oh, and yea, this is "the Austin Powers song" if that matters to you. Condolences to SHOOTER and Soulsista 6
Soul Bossa Nova Quincy Jones Year: 1962 Writer(s): Quincy Jones Performer(s): Jerome Richardson (reeds), Lalo Schifrin (piano), Jim Hall (guitar), Chris White (bass), Rudy Collins (drums), Quincy Jones (conductor), José Paula (percussion), Cancho Gomez (percussion), Jack Del RÃo (percussion), Roland Kirk (flute) 133 points Standard Deviation: 4.47 SHOOTER - 1 Soulsista - 1 annoymous1 - 2 HamedM1 💔 - 3 BB🌕 - 4 Troy - 4 razorshark - 6 Mirago - 6 nathanalbright - 6 Trilogy - 8 willapted33 - 8 newpower - 9 Red - 10 wrip - 11 zippy - 12 singingrulebritannia - 12 aerodynamite - 15 Geometrical - 15 Movement 8 9 6 7 8 10 10 9 7 7 7 6 7 6 6 6 6

{FORGIVE THE LATENESS OF MY POST}#15: A pretty little number, even without the context. #14: Some really cool stuff being done here, especially with the double bass. I somewhat dread doing these jazz rankdowns of yours because I just know I'm going to have to put something low that I really like. #13: All credit in the world to Roland Kirk for taking a fucking cuckoo clock and making it work within the context of a song. That is talent. #12: Undoubtedly one of the most important songs here, if not the most important. It sounds decidedly of its time because of production restraints, but it also shines through with its timelessness. I can totally see why you'd gravitate to this. #11: The song I had the most trouble ranking. I could have easily put this higher, but I feel like I have to be in the right mood for it. Regardless of my mood, this does its job extremely well. #10: I could rattle off a dozen things that I just adore about this performance. The frenetic energy on display, Tony Williams' wild drumming, The Sidewinder blowing away on the trumpet, it's just all so wonderful. #9: Oh wow, I expected this to be in or around top three, and it's not even close. Gorgeous. #8: Look at all of the talent on this song, jesus. MANTECA #7: I specifically revisited this one because I wasn't quite sure how I felt about it on first listen, and I'm glad I did, because I noticed a lot more going on the second time through. Even beyond the piano, the way the drums carry the beat is something to behold. #6: So, obviously, as a 90's kid, this holds a particular place in my heart, but there's quite a bit more to it than its claim to fame. Listen to that Lalo Schifrin piano, or that overwhelming brass. WHEW.

And I expected this to be top two, hahahaha
I feel like, every time I listen to this song, I'm waiting for Astrud Gilberto to show up. You can't really have this song without João, admittedly, but this song earns its classic reputation when Astrud and her heavenly vocals show up.

Why is this so divisive lmao
You could have picked just about any song from this soundtrack, and they would have made my top five, at worst.

Your final 2. Cantaloupe IslandMiles Runs the Voodoo DownTale of the Tape:This was the top 2 for 14 consecutive movements These songs have a combined 23 top 5s, 5 being #1s. 1 bottom 5 remains: annoymous1's 11 aerodynamite is the only player with a chance at a perfect top 2. Only 2 players have no top 5s left. One of these songs is the lowest SD. The winning margin is 14 points.

No complaints here. I considered one of these songs for my #1 on the first time listening to the playlist, then it moved to #3 on my second listen and another song took #1.
