Their 1981 song "Nuclear Boy" was close to making the 1981 Modern Rock Rankdown list. Personal rating: 4/5
Up next: One top-10 loss and two near-top 20 losses. Two people put this in their bottom 10, at least one being bottom 5.

The first is listed with #54.

Even though I don't love it, "Yellow Pills" is iconic just for inspiring the Yellow Pills series of Various Artist obscure power pop compilations

This managing to have two bottom-10's in such a small rankdown wasn't what I expected. It still beat her other Alt song from 1981. Did you know that Thomas Dolby was originally her bandmate? Personal ranking: 4.5/5
Up next: Only one bottom-30 ranking out, but two were very close. Someone almost ranked it top 10, though.

it's a shame 2 bottom 10s was enough to capsize a song everyone else ranked top 50, especially since this was one of my favorite discoveries

A top tier Squeeze song like "Up The Junction" missing top 50 while a low tier Ultravox song like "Quiet Men" makes top 50 is kind of bullshit.

Got some catching up to do.
90. James Chance & the Contortionists - "Contort Yourself" This is definitely unique. A lot of pure chaotic vibes going on with the music. The vocals are what tuned me out the most, but give this to DEVO and I might have given it a much higher rank.
89. Public Image, Ltd. - "Swan Lake" Don't think I have ever enjoyed any songs from this band. I do like some Songs from Sex Pistols. I think Johnny Rotten's vocals fit Punk style quite well.
88. The Undertones - "Jimmy Jimmy" I lot more enjoyable music style. Love the way this early 80's new wave songs incorporated 50's melodies in to the music. Ramones did it best though. Feargal Sharkey had a couple of pop hits in the mid 80's too.
87. Graham Parker and the Rumour - "Local Girls" This one was alright. I always considered Graham a poor man's Elvis Costello, and I'd be lying if I said I recall any other song besides "Life gets Better". Which I did chart BTW.
86. The Boomtown Rats - "Someone's Looking at You" The band looking and sounding a little Rolling Stones. I feel like this song would grow on me if it was on the radio these days.
85. Selector - "On My Radio" This one just felt a little too happy for me and the chorus felt nonexistent.
84.The Raincoats - "Fairytale in the Supermarket" The vocals works were so out of tune I kept waiting for Simon Cowell to buzz this out. Not at all for my ears.
83. Robert Palmer - "Bad Case of Loving You" Can't fathom why this would be tanked. I consider it one of my favorite Robert Palmer songs. I love any rock songs that mix Dr.s and sex. Also sounds great while riding a motorbike.
82. Roxy Music - "Trash" I had forgotten about this one for years. Forgot how great it sounds. Could have been something The Knack wrote though just as I say that I think I can figure out why some found it to be tankable material. Rock fact: In the 70's ,17 years old was the average age for a Rock band groupie. Kinda Creepy you say, but those were the 70's.
81. Rick James - "Bustin Out" I don't know how apt this was for this list here, but damn that was funky fierce.
80. Adam and the Ants - "Zerox" I'm usually the first to defend Adam Ant, but this here didn't really sound like them at all. I like their sound from 'Kings of the Wild Frontier and on'. This did kind of had a cool "Bat Man theme" beach guitar style.
79. The Knack - "Good Girls Don't" Another one of my favorites form 1979. I slotted more or less were I ranked it in my own 1979 top 100. Loved the Brittpop feel and It's such a catchy powerpop classic. The song always takes me back to my own teenage years and I feel The band really captures the essence of what being a teenager was like and what teenagers had on their mind all the time. This was a big Pop hit just missing the top 10 by peaking at #11. For years I though he can't be really singing "When she's sitting on your face" and getting played on the radio, but he does. The clean version says "when she puts you in your place", but the funny part is that makes the girl seem even more of a deviant. like into rough stuff. Regardless of how you interpret it it's the perfect theme for teens in the 70's.
78. Split Enz - "I See Red" I wish I could have slotted this one a bit higher. Loved the harder rock style. Like if The Tubes and Sparks had a love child.
77. Dave Edmonds - "Girls Talk" I like to consider this one the rough draft of "Slipping Away". A good song written by Elvis Costello.
76. The Slits - "Typical Girls" This one little for my melodic funny bone. I can see Siouxsie And The Banshees getting some inspiration here or maybe it was the other way around? Who came first?
75. Elvis Costello and the Attractions - "Oliver's Army" Decent discovery. I actually got a little Graham Parker "Life Gets Better" vibe here.
74. The Pop Group - "She Is Beyond Good and Evil" I can't even begin to describe what was going on in this song's intro. The actual song itself isn't too terrible. Most enjoyable part for me was the song's bassline.
73. Devo - "Clock Out" Clock out was what I almost did with this song. Not too enjoyable. Ironically enough the guitars at the start of each verse actually rode on some Cheap Trick vibes.
72. Ian Dury and the Blockheads - "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" This kinda struck me as a guilty pleasure. I know I hated those vocals, but the music was pretty Disco-dictive. Plus how fierce was that brass section? I feel Oingo Boingo had that guy in mind when considering musicians for their brass section.
71. The Skids - "Into the Valley" Had some punk elements mixed in with powerpop. Not too bad just not memorable at all.
More to come.

Butterflies & Hurricanes is now sadder than sad after losing a top 20, but there is a smile on the face of @crapkuki23 for being the third user to lose their whole bottom 10. 49 The Beat "Tears of A Clown"
Points: 407 Standard Deviation: 24.43 Ranking without my list: #45
92 @crapkuki23
Ranking Roger was only 16 at the time this came out. Also, these guys were the same people who formed General Public, but I prefer the English Beat. (If I had participated in the 1981 Alt rankdown, I'd have likely put Mirror in the Bathroom in the top 10) I did have this particular song on a tape we recorded from the radio when I was young. Personal rating: 4/5 (The original by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles would hopefully go top 10 in a Billboard Hot 100 rankdown but it was caught between years (1970/1971) so it didn't make any year end.)
Up next: One top-20 loss and one bottom-20 loss.

Points: 414 Standard Deviation: 18.64 Ranking without my list: #53
26 @crapkuki23 77 American Idiot This was out earlier than I expected. I remember two versions of this song, one of which a verse is sung in French. I couldn't find live footage of this version. Did you know that Blondie originated at the same New York venue that the Ramones and the Talking Heads did, it's called the CBGB. One of their members later also performed with the Ramones for one album, as Elvis Ramone.
Up next: One top 10, with two others also being top-20. One person loses a bottom-20 too. {Spoiler} shh

Up in the city, a strange town called malice, we're going underground down in the tube station at midnight and we will need to use the eton rifles to start with David Watts as lead commander after we saw the A bomb on Walthour Street, but that's entertainment for the modern world.

This sounds like it could have been used in a Narnia soundtrack, and in this case that's 100% a compliment. Some of her stuff seems like it could have influenced Nick Cave's music. Personal rating 5/5 Frederick is actually named after Patti Smith's husband, Fred Sonic Smith (He was in arguably the first punk band ever - MC5 - "Kick Out the Jams" is from 1968 yet sounds like it could be from the late 70's.)

This reveal leaves 2 people left with at least one bottom-10 remaining. Troy is now one of four to have cleared their bottom 20, with his lowest ranking now being a #73. We also have the highest loss yet in this RD, my condolences singingrulebritannia .
It's kinda funny that they messed up the coordinate numbers in the video title lol. I've actually taken classes in cartography/GIS, so it's neat to see a song about maps on here. Personal rating: 5/5 I also had the album Missing Chairs as a kid (but it didn't have this song)
