I didn't know until a few weeks ago that Meghan Trainer has a crazy dedicated fanbase. They've gotten something like 6 of her songs featured as Wikipedia's "article of the day", which is at least twice as many of her songs as anyone can name.

I disagree that it's completely different from any of her prior hits. When I first heard it one of the first things that came to my mind was Diamonds, it's almost like a slower version of that song (and I think probably in the same key), and of course she's also had slower introspective-type ballads, like Stay. Clearly it's off to a great start, so it must have some degree of remarkableness and single-worthiness.

Except Diamonds still has the rising tempo to the big hook where she belts. If anything it's close to straightforward ballads like Unfaithful (though not as catchy)

Feel like this'll go the same way as Hold My Hand-I Ain't Worried tbh. The big lead ballads gets all the airplay for the first two weeks while people stop streaming it for being mid while the actually fun upbeat song on the soundtrack that's used in the movie is the one that'll stick around. We already know the other Rihanna song on the soundtrack will also be a ballad so someone else on the soundtrack will get that hit (we'll have to wait for the actual album dropping this Friday to find out who)

Y'know with between Lift Me Up, Spirit, Hold My Hand, and other big movie ballads that flopped recently (I'll excuse Caroline a bit since that's for a movie that's a murder mystery not a big blockbuster), maybe studios should admit the era of big power ballads for movie soundtracks ala My Heart Will Go On, End of the Road, How Do I Live, and others is done and that big pop cuts (Just Like Fire, Happy, Earned It, All the Stars)

The last big ballad to go big was like in 2015 with Love Me Like You Do. There've been other slower songs like Love Lies, I Don't Wanna Live Forever, and others that get big but I wouldn't call those ballads

You have to meet a very high quality standard to be eligible. So her fans will coordinate to create the most in depth article you've ever seen on a song (see All About That Bass). Then someone submits it and there's a public vote - which obviously they do well in. Then it gets added to a queue and the admins put it up. So, it's surprisingly easy to just keep submitting very similar articles. Swifties have put a few up as well.

TBH it's far from the worst thing to come out of stan culture. We get better quality Wikipedia pages out of it!

rihanna's day 1 radio numbers are nuts. that being said, she needs continued radio growth and a strong streaming hold throughout the week to contend for #1. it's taylor's race to lose right now.

Day 2 update. Probably the last one as I imagine Twitter predictors will start posting tomorrow.

Big updates:
-Midnights still seeing a ~15% daily streaming drop, so lowered the projections for Anti-Hero (=) & Lavender Haze (-1)
-Lift Me Up (-1) had a much more subdued day 2 on radio and streaming. Now projecting it to land in the #2-5 range.
-Added Shirt by SZA, whose streaming held better than any recent debut on day 2. Projecting #5-6 but could do as well as #2 depending on Apple Music numbers.

honestly i wish that other fanbases would do this too. as someone who spends a lot of time randomly browsing through wikipedia to pass time, it's always nice to see that songs that I like have an extensive wikipedia article to read through.

Very curious about Spotify numbers. Apple Music gives us zero context on that 1-4 drop and radio on the first week is meaningless because radio deals inflate it.
