I mean you can't blame me too much, I was just going off those first day numbers which were pretty good, but yes, it has shown a substantial drop in day 2, so it might have just been initial hype that's quickly dying down, but I also think it could eventually stabilize and grow back. We'll see how the release of the movie affects it, and fwiw it has replaced JIN's The Astronaut at #1 on iTunes, despite the latter being discounted and her's not.

I’m sure Rihanna will be fine when its time for her actual comeback single for her next album. This sort of reminds me of her 2015 run of loose singles where they really weren’t part of any era, but still did moderately well. Speaking of which, I think Lift Me Up can still do a run similar to Four Five Seconds, except that it just debuts in the top 10 right out of the gate.

Since I grabbed these numbers earlier in the month, here's the Spotify data on Thriller (all versions combined) so far vs prior years.

Streams are in thousands, Orange = Halloween chart week, Bold = Oct 31



Streams were a little lower yesterday, but still doing decent vs previous years. I think Midnights is making everything look less impressive by comparison. Today will be interesting - Not sure if the Halloween numbers will be as good as 2020/2021 since it falls on a Monday.

A bit higher than I would've guessed - the song probably racked up more non-Spotify streams than I thought in the first 24-48 hours. But it also had another brutal 33% drop today, so I would still expect around 15-20M streams on the week.

Weekly Global TikTok Update, October 31

Carly had a brief stint in the Top 25, but fell off completely today. Meghan Trainor has a full-on viral smash on her hands (Was she ahead of her time? Most of her hits feel tailor-made for TikTok). Taylor Swift has had a few songs chart briefly, but nothing that's blown up huge. Interesting that even with all this talk of TikTok dominating the music industry, there's still a very clear gap between "big on streaming" and "big on tiktok".

I'm pretty sure Taylor herself would have came extremely close, if not done this before, with Speak Now, Red, and 1989 had streaming been what it is now back then, and that top ten takeovers in general would be relatively common. We've already seen it happen twice so close together between Drake and Taylor.
