So to play a lil catch up here...
All the songs I actually hate have left! So good work team Tractors!!
Those songs were in order of my ranking.
111. "She Likes It" - I just don't understand how anybody likes this, it's not even catchy to me and they sound horrible.
110. "Beach Boys" - The idea of the song is fine, not great, but fine. Just terribly executed. LoCash's output swings wildly from songs I really enjoy to complete trash. This was the latter.
109. "Party Mode" - The only positive I have is the hilarity of him saying the songwriters were genius for this song lol That alone bumped it up a spot.
108. "Country On" - Similar to "Party Mode" this had one element that bumped it up a spot...Sarah Buxton on backing vocals for like 1 second...I love her voice and the levels of trash down here at the bottom means that little bit is enough
107. "Come Back As A Country Boy" - This is way beneath his talent, even at his previous laziest this would be beneath him. It's like he really didn't care anymore. Lyrically should be lower but the cheap attempt at recreating "God's Country" at least evoked a small bit of joy...
106. "That's What Tequila Does" - This is where I'll say I don't take into account an artist's personal life when ranking these songs, at least not consciously. Now that that is out of the way for all the coming artists I personally dislike... I've long lost interest in Aldean as an artist. His vocals are continuously lazy, his productions is almost always too bombastic for its own good, and his taste in material always leans to bland and generic. This is an especially bad case and thusly gets shafted to the bottom of my list!
105. "Water Under The Bridge" - For Sam Hunt this isn't bad...let its placement in my list speak for what that means.
104. "You Proof" - Possibly his worst single? No definitely. I don't get any enjoyment from this. At his best he's a passable vocalist with some nice filler songs. And I will say there's usually a good idea somewhere in what he puts out...but this honestly hurts my heart to listen to knowing how well it did.
103. "Up" - Auto-pilot for one of the blandest superstars the genre has ever seen. He is sometimes capable of elevating his worst material with his admittedly fun presence. Not here. I don't know what they were thinking choosing this as a single.
102. "Trouble With A Heartbreak" - Much as I dislike 95% of his output there's something that makes me almost not instantly hate this one. Does his vocal sound a bit more engaged than normal on the chorus to anyone else? Maybe that's what I'm hearing, but I honestly don't want to listen again to find out.
The next section of my list were songs I found that ranged from boring to passable filler. Nothing I'll ever really choose to go back to individually, but wouldn't necessarily turn off either. This will also be a section I won't comment on every song, just because they're mostly just boring.
100. "Keys To The Country" - To be fair to this song I probably should've upped its placement. It has more identity than the next like 20 songs or so....but I know what Chris is capable of when he's on and the level of disappointment I have in this just makes the listening experience sour enough to go to the bottom of this section.
99. "Kissed Me Like That"
98. "While You're Gone"
97. "Soul" - I usually like Lee even on his worst songs (Save the putrid "Parking Lot Party"), and here he is the reason I have this as "high" as I do. With a lesser artist I would've had this in my hated section.
96. "AA" - His best single since his debut.
95. "EASY TONIGHT" 93. "No Hard Feelings"92. "Man Made" - Might be one of the most faceless artists to launch in the last few years. I don't remember how any of his songs go.
91. "Country'd Look Good On You" - I like his voice, with the right material he could be something.
89. "Take It Slow"
88. "Love Talking"
87. "Growing Old With You"
86. "Slide" - I liked quite a few of her Canadian singles over the years but this last project just hasn't clicked with me. Nothing bad but I haven't come back to anything.
85. "New Truck"84. "My Bar" - The melody of this pulls it out of the hate pile. Literally everything else about this doesn't work for me.
82. "First Taste Of Gone"81. "Wasted On You"78. "Truth About You" - This wormed its way into my head and I can listen to it now...but I do still hate it lyrically and understand why some say it's misogynistic.
76. "Giving You Up" - He shows a lot of promise, just needs stronger material.
75. "If I Were Rock & Roll"74. "Drinkin' It Wrong"73. "Out In The Middle"72. "Best Thing Since Backroads"71. "Learn From It"68. "Should Have Known Better" - The vocal production on this sounds odd and held it back. I usually really enjoy her material more.
66. "Love Is Real"
63. "Take My Name"
62. "How You Make A Man" - Ok he finally remembered how to not oversing! Now a little more interesting material and I'll be a happy camper!
61. "Salt, Lime & Tequila"The next section was songs I like. I'll listen and may even want to listen to every now and then. If I put any of these on my personal chart they're lucky to get to my top 50 (100 position chart) but they're still charted.
57. "We Did" - The Jo Dee Messina comparison is spot on imo. I do think the song itself needed a little more time to develop but she sells what it is very nicely.
53. "Can't Do Without Me" - Chayce sounds great here, Lindsay is a nice pairing, and it's sneakily melodically catchy. Don't ask me to remember anything about it lyrically though, it doesn't stick there haha
51. "You" - This is here solely because I fell in love with the acoustic version. The studio version would've been in my bottom 5 while the acoustic is top 20 worthy for me (the vocals
), so I split the difference a bit and put it in the middle pack.
50. "Wastin' Whiskey" - I've been 50/50 with them so far and hadn't actually paid this song much attention before this rankdown but it's rather good.
47. "Steal My Love" - Country...no, but I really did enjoy this. It has more flavour to it than most of their singles post "Tequila" and I really have always enjoyed them before that so this was an easy mid-packer for me.
46. "Downtown Baby" - Hated this on first listen...then it grew on me. Her weakest track by far but her vocal performances always win me over and I actually really enjoy her style someone compared to "broadway". I think theatrical!
44. "Fill Them Boots" - I keep thinking I shouldn't like this as much as a I do but it's a catchy little ditty. Very disposable earcandy but sometimes that's enough.
43. "Pass It On" - A very laidback feel that he sells well and Maren's backing vocal also just feels good. Nothing special and definitely shouldn't have been the single but I enjoy it.
42. "Crazy One More Time (Revisited)" - I think how much I like the original recording is doing a lot of nostalgic lifting here, as the new recording isn't all too great. But the bones of the song are still so strong I had to place it here.
Next section is songs I'd say are like 7 or 8 out of 10 for me. Strong, I really like them but aren't
level.
35. "You Ain't Pretty" - Is he a little generic here...maybe but I just really enjoy the whole package. Production, melody, and vocals are nice, and the lyrics are a nice take on an idea we have heard before. It comes together in such a nice way for me. I'm very interested to see if they can get him a hit.
32. "Son Of A" - Dillon keeps releasing these songs that I really really enjoy, and keep forgetting to actually chart on my personal chart lol This has overstayed on the radio chart but it's strong and I get why they keep upping it. Just wish he had the backing to really take off. Also he sounds so much like Eddie, it's like hearing new Montgomery Gentry.
28. "Catching Up With An Ol' Memory" - My love of Clay means he can almost always elevate middling material. Is this something amazing...no not at all, but he sounds great on it and for me that's honestly enough lol
27. "Hell Yeah" - Love the hook here. Only thing holding it back from moving higher on my list is that I find the production just a little uninteresting.
The last section is songs I
11. "County Roads" - He's not for every one, in fact it seems his not for most of you lol but I'm absolutely sold on Elvie. and I perfectly understand the opposing opinion. He takes the parts of say Eric Church that I love and eliminates the parts that some times make me dislike Eric's songs. Love the energy here! I do think this was a mistake of a single though.
6. "Gave It Back Broken" - Vocal slayage! I love how she sounds here, and honestly I don't think this was all that bad for radio, a little risky compared to other options but I felt it was a way to show she had a range of styles she can do.
2. "Dates In Pickup Trucks" - Kassi just is perfection to me, if you need convincing go see her live, watch her instagram stories, find a way to get to know her personality and her songs and style all make more sense! I don't think for a second this is a masterpiece in the way something like "Strawberry Wine" is, she's too quirky and different. She's for the weirdo's, and therefore she's for me
