I guess that’s it for Kill Bill’s chances at 1? That’s What I Like, Bad Guy, Señorita, and Havana all say hi — Flowers could be a 10 week number one and it still would be possible for Kill Bill to go number one

Imagine if Shakira recorded in English in the 90s - a song like Si Te Vas would’ve definitely chatted top 10 and then she would’ve had top 10s in three decades, the 90s, 00s, and 20s

What's funny to me is that when I was young (tweens to teens) in the early 00's I remember thinking music was taking a huge nosedive compared to the 90s. So I guess I was bucking the trend of simply loving whatever era you grow up in lol. Now time has softened my view of that era and I view it nostalgically, but I do think overall pop/r&b from the 90's is vastly superior to the 00's. Same for me. I started following music in 1997 (when I was 9 lol) and 2004 was the year things really dropped off. There was a decent patch in late 05/early 06 but things have never really recovered imo. Don't get me wrong, there have been MANY great songs since then, but I've definitely found myself reaching backwards to discover new music the last few years.

I think it's a fair point to make that Flowers might not have been #1 in the Global charts if it weren't for the tie-in with Shakira's song. Also might not have done as well in the U.S.

Shakira only having 5 top 10s feels sooo wrong idk... i know she isn't as big in the US but still Well, she's mostly released songs in Spanish. In the US those would be tracked on the Hot Latin chart and on there she's had nonstop #1 hits since her debut. She's been #1 in 4 decades. 32 years into her career and she hasn't slowed down in the Latin genre, who knows how long she can keep this up. Another streaming hit like Sessions #53 could easily happen again in the future for her. #1 In 4 Decades - '90s, '00s, '10s, & '20s '90sCiega, Sordomuda Tu '00sWhenever, Wherever Que Me Quedes Tu La Tortura Hips Don't Lie Te Lo Agradezco, Pero No Loba '10sLoca Mi Verdad La Bicicleta Chantaje Clandestino Perro Fiel '20sGirl Like Me Sessions #53

Unpopular opinion, but I kinda wanted Flowers to hit #1 in March, April and May. Straight up spring vibes. Still love the new music that’s coming out this month though!

Miley Cyrus Earns First Streaming Songs No. 1 Since 2014 With ‘Flowers’ Her nine-year absence from the No. 1 spot is the longest since the chart launched in 2013.
BY KEVIN RUTHERFORD
Miley Cyrus Miley Cyrus Marcell Rév
FFor the first time since 2014, Miley Cyrus is No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart.
“Flowers,” the lead single from Cyrus’ upcoming album Endless Summer Vacation, starts atop the Streaming Songs list dated Jan. 28.
In the Jan. 13-19 tracking week, “Flowers” earned 52.6 million official U.S. streams, according to Luminate.
The song is Cyrus’ fourth No. 1 since the chart began in 2013 and her first ruler since “Adore You” led for a week in 2014.
Previously, she led for 11 and 13 weeks, respectively, in 2013 with “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball.”
With four rulers, she moves into a four-way tie for the fourth-most No. 1s in chart history, alongside Cardi B, Lil Baby and Travis Scott. Drake leads all acts with 15 No. 1s.
Most No. 1s, Streaming Songs Chart 15, Drake 6, Justin Bieber 6, Taylor Swift 4, Cardi B 4, Lil Baby 4, Miley Cyrus 4, Travis Scott
Her latest No. 1 comes virtually nine years to her previous week atop the chart, as “Ball” spent its last week at No. 1 on the Jan. 25, 2014, list. Her nine-year wait is the longest break between No. 1s in chart history, exceeding Nicki Minaj’s nearly eight-year respite between “Anaconda” (2014) and “Super Freaky Girl” (2022) achieved last year.
Not only is “Flowers” Cyrus’ first No. 1 since 2014, it’s also her first top 10 since “Adore.”
Between “Adore” and “Flowers,” she rose as high as No. 11 twice with “Malibu” in 2017 and as part of “Don’t Call Me Angel (Charlie’s Angels),” with Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey, in 2019.
She isn’t the only act to return to the top 10 after a long break on the Jan. 28 survey. Shakira, as part of Bizarrap’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” is back at No. 3 (20.2 million streams), her first appearance in the top 10 since “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” featuring Rihanna, reached No. 2 in 2014.
Concurrently, as previously reported, “Flowers” debuts at No. 1 on the multi-metric Billboard Hot 100, Cyrus’ second ruler. Endless Summer Vacation, her eighth studio album, is due March 10.

Especially for artists who make their living by singing in languages other than English The Hot 100 is not really a good measure for #hits , success, etc. For Shakira, If you work in the Latin charts - lots of hits Not even just Latin charts… Waka Waka for example was probably one of the biggest songs of the decade in most of Europe too. La Tortura, She Wolf, Loca, Dare, she has like 15 hits in most countries. It’s worth remembering that several of her songs would’ve picked higher in the Hot 100 if YouTube plays had been counted earlier. They only were included in 2013, so She Wolf and Waka Waka would’ve highly benefited from those points- especially the latter which was one of the most viewed videos of the year.

The fact that “Adore You” was number one on the streaming songs chart just blows my mind Lol that definitely comes off bizarre at surface level. But then you have to realize 2013/2014 was when audio streaming didn’t take off yet. Spotify #1’s would barely do 1 million for the *week* and Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc didn’t even exist yet. The Streaming chart was basically a YouTube chart then and she was coming off Wrecking Ball breaking the VEVO record, so it doesn’t seem too surprising her next music video would be the #1 video the week it premiered. It’s interesting that it peaked #21 on Hot 100 despite the streaming number one though. That’s definitely the lowest peak ever for a streaming #1.
