Okay, so here's a question: if "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53" does debut in the top 10 (which it's looking like it most likely will), will Bizarrap be the first Argentinian to have a top 10 in the U.S.? I can't think of any Argentinian acts who have achieved that, so I feel like he might just be the first to do it. Okay, so upon further research, I found that there has been at least one Argentinian-born person who has been in the top 10 before. Stephanie Beatriz, who hit #1 as one of the many Encanto cast members who sang on "We Don't Talk About Bruno", was born in NeuquΓ©n, Argentina, and she moved to the United States when she was two. While she did grow up in the U.S., it seems that she still has Argentinian citizenship in addition to U.S. citizenship, so I guess she technically counts as an Argentinian with a U.S. top 10 hit.

I gotta say, the entire year of 2013 had the best top 10 imo. Really miss the vibe, pop culture, and my life in the early 2010s in general.

Not sure if this has come up yet, but itβll be over 9 years between Mileyβs first and second #1 songs. Who has had a longer wait for a second #1?

Some interesting meta connections re Elton John this week. He was about to leave the top 10 in 1998 after his most successful #1, a double A side single that included Candle in the Wind 1997, a reworked version of an older hit initially written for Marilyn Monroe and then rewritten in memory of Princess Diana. Interestingly, 10 years prior he was in the top 10 in 1988 with a live piano version of that same song, Candle in the Wind. That song was originally included in his 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, the follow up to Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, which included Crocodile Rock, the was in the top 10 in 1973 this week, too. Crocodile Rock would later be covered by Beach Boys for the Elton John tribute album Two Rooms. Notably, Sinead Oβ Connor publicly expressed her surprise and disappointment that no one had chosen to cover Candle in the Wind for the album Two Rooms, as that one was a favorite song of hers. Sinead chose to do a haunting cover of Sacrificeβ¦ one of the songs used to create Elton Johnβs 2022 top 10 hit Cold Heart (with Dua Lipa). Another main song used in Cold Heart? Rocket Man, of course! Interestingly, Rocket Man was also include in the tribute album Two Rooms, beautifully covered by a superb female artist that had a hit in the 80s and later on in 2022: Kate Bush!

It says longest wait between number ones regardless of 1st to 2nd was Cher with 33 years. How did she wait 33 years for a number one between I Got You Babe and Believe when she had 3 more number ones in between that? That's... Literally the opposite of waiting lol.

I think if Rihanna drops in the next few weeks [she] could challenge for #1 not if it's a third lullaby in a row...

βthe longest wait (not the longest time between first and 2nd #1s)β yes it is acknowledging that is just the longest wait between a #1 for an artist, but not 1st and 2nd Read my edit. She isn't waiting if she got three more number ones. 33 years may be the longest span between number ones by an artist, but it's certainly not the longest wait. Wait implies no other number ones in between.

Aretha Franklin had a 20-year gap between "Respect" (1967) and "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" (1987). Unfortunately the only two #1s for the Queen of Soul, which has always been somewhat surprising to me, but I guess her type of music could never cross over as much, and she still gets the respect she deserves in many other ways.

Now, music from 20 years ago doesn't sound nearly as dated To me it still seems 20 years old, but maybe not as old as music from the early 80s, I guess for me because I wasn't born yet (I'm assuming you were the same), so music that came out before you were born or when you were very young will always seem older than music from times you firmly remember and lived through.

Now, music from 20 years ago doesn't sound nearly as dated Haha I have zero memory of what happened in early 2003 (I was born in late 2000), so all these early 2000s charts sound ancient to me and I associate them with my mom (still love early 2000s music though, as it had a lot of bangers!) For me, personally, my fav years for music are the late 10s/early 20s/present (streaming made things interesting and music feels relevant for me especially as a young person who's always paying attention to memes/internet trends) but that's also because I associate them with my current youthfulness. But super I'm excited about how music will sound like in the mid/late 2020s and decades beyond!!!! But I respect that everyone has different opinions about what was the best or *at least* most interesting period in music (two different things, I know) and all that is largely influenced by when people were born/experienced their youth π

Rather than saying βthe best time for music isβ¦,β itβs much more efficient to say βmy favourite time for music isβ¦β But I suppose itβs less fun to say that since you canβt argue with someoneβs opinion on something like that.

Not to mention everything is cyclical. In the era of Blinding Lights, Levitating, Stay, As It Was, Cuff It, Flowers, Big Energy, and Running Up That Hill (lol) a-ha's "Take On Me" or Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" would sound more contemporary on the radio than Nelly's "Air Force Ones" or B2K's "Bump, Bump, Bump".
