The 2023 Grammy Awards are almost done (just DJ Khaled, so it may as well be over), and the eligibility period is almost half done. Who are the top contenders for the next Grammy period?

Renaissance Act II. Maybe this will be the one!? Not with Taylor and SZA in the mix. Granted, I donβt think they like black women enough to give AOTY to sza either.

Midnights and SOS are locks right now for AOTY nods especially if they keep all the extra slots that we don't really need.
If anything the results of the 65th Grammys made me care about the whole thing even less. A mess.

Will the academy award SZA AOTY to make up for how they treated BeyoncΓ©?

Will the academy award SZA AOTY to make up for how they treated BeyoncΓ©? Hell, I remember "CTRL" got shut out.(Yes, she gained one with Doja years later), but this would a great clap back if she snatches a few(the GF's as well)with "SOS".

I'd love for Miley to get a Grammy. She has done consistent solid work for years now.

The Grammys love a comeback, so expect Miley to get several nominations.

Yeah, Miley feels like a strong contender for ROTY and SOTY. Not sure if she'd win, but a nom for at least one of those categories seems very likely.
Pop Song is a much higher chance of her winning.

I bet Lana will get some noms for DYKTTATUOB. I could see P!nk getting Best Pop Solo Vocal for "Trustfall" the song.
Shania has 5 Grammys so maybe a Country Solo nom for the country songs on QOM?

Maybe the next Gaga single/album will be out in time?!
I wonder if RAYE might get some attention at all. Even if just a Best New Artist nom.
I'm seeing Plains in the Americana or Folk categories.
Imagine if Arlo Parks was the surprise artist across the Big 4!
Carly Rae Jepsen should get an Album of the Year nom, plus Record and Song of the Year for "The Loneliest Time" perhaps.

I donβt think we should trust ROTY and SOTY anymore considering theyβll probably give it to some no name or an artist way past their prime if they get nominated alongside the obvious picks.

Kelly coming for her record-breaking third Pop Album win you watch. I still can't believe Adele didn't break the tie with 30 on Sunday, but I'm certainly not mad about it! I'd love for Kelly's album to be as amazing as we all hope and garner some awards.

It's also surprising that Swift didn't get a third Pop Album win for folklore since that one won AOTY (though I'm happy Dua Lipa won it). Looking to the next Grammys, we definitely need to note that at least four times now an album has won AOTY but lost its genre award: Mumford & Sons won AOTY for Babel but lost Americana Album Arcade Fire won AOTY for The Suburbs but lost Alternative Music Album Taylor Swift won AOTY for folklore but lost Pop Album Jon Batiste won AOTY for We Are but lost R&B Album

"Congrats Jon Batiste, you have the best album, but not the best r&b album."

Will the academy award SZA AOTY to make up for how they treated BeyoncΓ©? doubtful. I see SOS being nominated, but if the most commercially and critically impactful black woman this side of the 21st century can't gather the votes, I don't have super high hopes for SZA, especially when you have Taylor (and potentially Miley and Dua) in the conversation. Midnights is probably the frontrunner. tbh I feel like the best bet for a black woman winning AOTY before my hair turns gray is probably Lizzo. If she can put out another album that spawns 3+ hits she could possibly defy the odds.

SZA will be the India.Arie of the 2024 ceremony. India.Arie lost all seven nominations for Acoustic Soul and βVideoβ (mostly to Alicia Keys, but they couldβve shared the wealth). The next album garnered her multiple awards. While everyone is going on about the βupsetsβ (I wasnβt upset) of this year, the one that will always affect me the most is Mariah Carey in 1996 and the cruel way they kept showing her on camera after each loss. A snub is when you have more than half a dozen nominations and you leave with nothing.

It just occurred to me that Brandi Carlile released her In The Canyon Haze album in this eligibility year (Oct 1, 2022 I think). Soβ¦. Plus, I wonder if the live to iMax concert would be eligible for Music Video Longform?

Didnβt they only recently extend the eligibility period by a month? Or are they aiming to have the show in early January now?

I think it's been extended/shortened a few times in the last decade (haven't googled to confirm btw). But the fact they still need 4-5+ months to get through the whole process of deadline to awards night is excessive.
