10. They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) - Pete Rock & CL Smooth: Oooh nicee, very pleased to see my lowest rank - my #77 - showing up now. I don't really know this song and it wasn't a major standout to me. But I did like it enough to have it avoid my Bottom 20, lol. 9. You Got Me - The Roots feat. Erykah Badu: Aww dangg, I knew I was bound to lose one of my higher rankede songs when my lowest ranked song shows up. That always seems to happen. This is such a great song and I do really love this - love it enough to rank it at #14. I love what all of the artists brings to this song and it's my favorite song of The Roots too. I had no idea that this was originally a Jill Scott (featuring The Roos) song. Happy to see no Bottom 35 rankings for this song though. 8. Keep Ya Head Up - 2Pac: I'm not surprised this did well as I would always expect 2Pac songs to do well. This is my #34 so I do really like this song. But it's always far from my very favorite of his. I wish "California Love" was represented here as that would have been really high for me - possible Top 10. "Changes" also could have been really high - maybe Top 15/20. It's really impressive how this only got one Bottom 50 ranking, which was #52. Not bad at all. 7. If I Ruled The World (Imagine That) - Nas feat. Lauryn Hill: Ooooh veryy nice how this song is the first song without any Bottom 50 rankings. As it truly deserves as this song is amazing, timeless and such a classic. But also danggg, this was my 2nd highest ranking at #11, so I was hoping to see this rank much higher. :'( This song is SO good and is such a jam! Love what both Nas and Lauryn bring to the song. Whoa I had no idea Yara Shahidi was his cousin but really cool to learn. :o Also not surprised seeing this as the 3rd lowest SD. And also wow I just noticed it has all of its rankings in the Top 24, except for the #45 and #47. :o 6. Gin And Juice - Snoop Dogg: Ooh dear I got really scared in hearing the #6 has the 4th lowest SD and two #1s going down. I hope this isn't my number 1. *clicks and finds out* Ooh phew, okay good nottt my #1. But danggg, noott my #19 either. :'( Ugh I think this was my 2nd highest ranked song in the Top 5 so I was hoping it wasn't this. But I see that it is. :( This song is a great jam and truly a standout classic. I do love this so I was hoping for this to be a little higher. It's impressive how this almost got all Top 30 rankings, except for a #59.

These are my remaining spots of the Top 5: 1 21, 22 35 56 Ugh I am still doing soo bad. I can't deny all of these songs are iconic and classics. I do love 4 out of 5 of these, although I have sadly lost much bigger favorites here. :( I'm really hoping my #1 can pull out the win but I am not too positive on that. But I'll be content with my #21 or #22 winning.

5. Doo Wop (That Thing) - Lauryn HillBorn in East Orange, New Jersey, Lauryn Hill was first noticed while appearing on Showtime At The Apollo as an Amateur Night contestant. Despite a harsh reception from the crowd she was able to complete her performance of "Who's Lovin' You". She later rose to prominence as a member of the Fugees. In 1998 she released her first solo album The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. The single "Doo Wop (That Thing)" peaked at #2 on the R&B charts and debuted at #1 on the rap and Hot 100 charts, and also topped the charts in Iceland. It won Grammys for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song, and helped Lauryn become the first rapper to win the Grammy for Album Of The Year. 3. Juicy - The Notorious B.I.G.Born and raised in Brooklyn, Christopher Wallace started rapping as a teenager, taking on the name MC CWest. After spending time in jail he made a demo tape under the name Biggie Smalls. That eventually caught the attention of Sean "Puffy" Combs who was at Uptown Records at the time. He signed with Uptown, but after Puffy was fired and started his own label Bad Boy, Biggie went with him. His debut album, 1994's Ready To Die, was the first album to be released by Bad Boy. The lead single "Juicy" topped the rap chart and peaked at #14 on the R&B chart and #27 on the Hot 100. Built on a sample of Mtume's "Juicy Fruit", it features vocals by Total, and is generally considered one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. Biggie was shot and killed in a drive-by after leaving a Soul Train Awards afterparty in 1997. His death, which remains unsolved, effectively brought an end to the East Coast/West Coast rap rivalry. Juicy is a good song, but the "Juicy Fruit" sample has been so overused over the years by other artists that I'm kinda getting tired of it.

2. Regulate - Warren G & Nate DoggBorn in Long Beach, California, Warren Griffin III started out as a member of 213 with Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg (Nathaniel Hale). He took on the name Warren G while in jail for gun possession. His biggest hit came in 1994 with the release of the single "Regulate" which was featured on the soundtrack to Above The Rim. A collaboration with Nate Dogg, it topped the rap chart and peaked at #7 on the R&B chart and #2 on the Hot 100, and hit the Top 10 in eleven other countries. Samples "I Keep Forgettin'" by Michael McDonald and "Sign Of The Times" by Bob James, and contains an interpolation of Dr. Dre's "Let Me Ride". It's one of the defining songs of the G-funk era of West Coast hip hop and one of the biggest singles on the Def Jam label. Nate Dogg passed away in 2011 from congestive heart failure. And now the #1... 1. Rosa Parks - OutkastFormed in Atlanta, Outkast consisted of AndrΓ© 3000 (Andre Benjamin) and Big Boi (Antwan Patton). They were part of the Dungeon Family collective along with Goodie Mob and Organized Noize. Outkast became the first hip hop act to sign with LaFace Records. Their 1998 single "Rosa Parks", named after the civil rights activist, peaked at #19 on the R&B chart and contains an interpolation of "Cancion De Amor" by The Sandpipers. Rosa Parks sued Outkast and LaFace over the song in 1999, alleging that it misappropriated her name. It was initially dismissed, but in 2003 the Supreme Court allowed the suit to proceed. Outkast were later dropped as co-defendants, and in 2005 the suit was finally settled. Outkast along with their producer and record label paid Ms. Parks an undisclosed amount of cash and agreed to work with the Rosa And Raymond Parks Institute For Self Development. Ms. Parks died six months after the settlement. If Outkast is going to be on the 2000s version, can it be BOB please?

5. Doo Wop (That Thing) - Lauryn Hill: Ughh nooo, NOT the way I wanted to start this Top 5 with losing my #1. :'( The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill was such an iconic album and "Doo Wop" was that iconic song to start off the album. This song was everything and I really love it so much. Lauryn kills it with both the rapping and singing. On the bright side, I lost all of my Top 10 AND Top 20 songs so I'm glad my #1 was the last song standing and did manage to make it to the Top 5. But still wish it was higher. And Soulsista also slays for having this as their #1 too! I do love seeing this song having ten Top 10 ranks and no bottom half ranks though! And the 7th lowest SD is also cool. 4. It Was a Good Day - Ice Cube: When there was mention of a bottom half rank to be revealed I was hoping it would be mine... and yesss it was my #56. Ice Cube is great and has many jams. This is probably his biggest hit/most recognizable song? It's a great song and a classic but it was never a song I really loved or was ever that obsessed/really into like some other songs on this list. Still, 13 Top 10 ranks is very impressive. But this could have ranked below "Doo Wop" though, lol. 3. Juicy - The Notorious B.I.G.: This is definitely such a great and iconic jam! It's also so timeless and such a classic. I love the feel/vibe of this song, the sample and most importantly how Biggie raps on this song. Probably his most iconic song but I do love some others more from him. This was my #21 and the highest song of my Top 3, so this was my choice to win of the Top 3 but of course that doesn't happen. 8th lowest SD is good for this. Oh so now it's my #22 vs. my #35. Fingers crossed for my.... #22, I guess? But I'm guessing my #35 wins. 2. Regulate - Warren G & Nate Dogg: Well color me surprised that my #35 didn't end up winning. I'm shocked. This song is a classic and I do love it. But again, it's just not one of those songs I was truly obsessed with. I didn't really follow/listen to this when it was out but I've come to appreciate it years later. Still, really such a cool and smooth jam. I can get the love for this. LMAOO at me and Lucy being the only ones to not rank this in our Top 15 and both had it at #35. But 13 Top 10 ranks and the lowest SD are all really impressive. 1. Rosa Parks - Outkast: Okay of the two left, I'm glad to see this pull out the win. It's my #22, so I do really love this song but I just happen to love other songs more. Although hmmm my ~low ranking kinda surprises me as I thought I ranked this higher. And I kinda wish I could have squeezed some room to place this in my Top 20, but ugh list was stacked. It's cool seeing this with the 2nd lowest SD, 12 Top 10 and 17 Top 20 rankings. Thanks for hosting yet another fun and entertaining rankdown, Soulsista! Can't wait for the 2000s round. My first proper decade of following popular music so I should hopefully be familiar with more than half of the songs, haha.

Thanks for hosting, Soulsista! These rankdowns always take me back to my younger days. Some many epic hip-hop songs that I grew up on were in this list. It's a huge nostalgia trip.
If you're planning on making another one, I'm really looking forward to it.
