I would like to think a lot of them like Sza too 😂 I imagine Morgan’s fanbase is very different from that of any other artist who hit #1 in the past 10 years or so. I think it’s more like Sza is such a universally well liked and respected artist and it’s hard to imagine anyone not being happy for her . But I could be wrong of course

Doja Cat - not credited btw I'm glad to see Doja Cat not credited. Nothing against her, but that would have been a very cheap #1 in her discography if she was. This seemed like the type of situation where Billboard would bend the rules for the hype and clicks so I'm pleased with that. Same. I'd like to see Doja get another number one but after 8 weeks at number 2 it just seems more appropriate for SZA to get the number one all to herself with the original version.

the main Barbz account was saying they sold 130K based on orders so something was definitely off somewhere . Either way we are all happy for Sza Everyone except the Morgan Wallen fanboys. fanboys? Do you mean fangirls?

Yay at the chart manipulation finally working!!! (I am being both sarcastic and honest because we know she tried different tactics, but I'm also happy to see her hit #1.).

Honestly, Kill Bill should've got the number 1 spot a few months ago.

So you’re implying that the charts were manipulated for Kill Bill? I'm implying she tried to game the system multiple times (like most artists, no real shade) by releasing acoustic versions, discounting downloads to $0.69, I think last week it was the "tour" video, and then finally she got the #1 with the one-and-done Doja remix. She's been going through it for the past few months -- glad something finally stuck and got her the #1.

But honestly it was a relatively close race and she kind of lucked out with Last Night’s streaming slump. From my calculations, it would have very narrowly stayed #1 had it matched the 36.5m streaming tally from last week. Honestly she may have had to go for the nuclear option and bring in a BTS member or something like that to really bring those digital sales for an easy #1. Now that she got #1 she no longer needs to do this.

I know it didn't have a majority of the points, but still.

Kiss Me More should’ve just been a #1 hit over Doja just getting credited on a 1 week and done remix (i think it didn’t end up getting there because there was a lot of competition by the time it peaked but it was so close).

See You Again debut. We won! What happened? Recurrent songs are only allowed to enter the Hot 100 once they reach #50 or above. This means the song has been "reset" from recurrency and treated like a fresh single.

Also, happy to see Calm Down still growing fast on radio. In about a week it will be above or close to 80M AI and if it keeps growing, I can see it becoming a #1 radio hit by summertime, given its summery, breezy, chill vibes. I would love to see it enter the top 3 on the Hot 100, at least. Idk, the Creepin-Kill Bill-Flowers trio is the strongest radio top 3 we’ve had since As It Was-First Class-About Damn Time in the summer. But if any song could break in, it would be Calm Down, either it or Last Night. It should go to #4 at the least, the only reason I don’t think it’s going Top 3 is because Ella Baila Sola is likely gonna pass it before it can pass Flowers. Yeah, agreed, it's still got a long way to go until it catches up to those 3 songs in airplay. It's currently at 75.70M AI and just gained 1.27M AI yesterday. Creepin' is still at 98.14M AI and actually just gained 0.56M AI. Kill Bill is right above it at ~99M AI, while Flowers is at ~104M AI and both are pretty stable. Basically, Calm Down would need to keep growing at its current rate until mid-May to reach the summit on radio. It's definitely not certain but I can see it happening. As for Morgan Wallen, I think he will definitely grow more in airplay. He's at #8 on country radio and is rapidly crossing over. He's already at #26 on AC, #19 on HAC and #16 on Pop. The question is how much will he grow on those formats? I can see him breaking the top 10 and maybe even the top 5 on Pop but I don't know if he'll go further than that. Same for HAC and AC. He's currently at ~51M AI and I can see him reaching ~85M but I wouldn't bet on him rising further. But you really never know. I just feel Calm Down is more likely to top radio with its wider appeal on more formats.

I know it didn't have a majority of the points, but still. Billboard made the right call. A similar situation happened not too long ago with Beyonce's "Break My Soul." The remix with Madonna certainly helped the song and it probably would not have held on to #1 for a second week without the remix points. But it was pretty obviously not driving the majority of total points for the song, even if it was the "reason" it was #1, so Madonna was not credited. Seems like a pretty similar situation for Doja here.

If Meant to Be could go Top 2 at CHR and top HAC, I don't see why Last Night couldn't, especially since it's even bigger on streaming than MTB ever was. Plus, Calm Down and Last Night could both have their turns atop the radio charts, but I agree that Calm Down would probably get there first.

The one thing I still don't understand is why the earlier predictions were so pessimistic on Kill Bill going #1 compared to the final results. Were people being defeatist about the song's chances?

No "Cruel Summer" on Recurrent Songs chart yet? Since Cruel Summer only charted for 2 weeks back in 2019, it never actually hit recurrency - so it's ineligible for that chart. It's also ineligible for Bubbling Under, since songs that previously charted aren't allowed. It's not charting on the Hot 100 because there's a rule that songs which charted more than a couple years ago have to break into the Top 50 to re-chart. See You Again debut. We won! What happened? Recurrent songs are only allowed to enter the Hot 100 once they reach #50 or above. This means the song has been "reset" from recurrency and treated like a fresh single. See You Again has never charted on the Hot 100, so it's treated like a new song as far as eligibility goes.

But "Enchanted" only charted one week at #75 on Hot 100 back in 2010, then debuts at #4 on Hot 100 Recurrents chart in 2021. Or do you think there's a "certain number of years" needed to be able to classify as recurrent, let's say more than 5 years? "Cruel Summer" is just 4 years old. Or recurrency for song that charted before on Hot 100 but with less than 20 weeks is different. Billboard, I'm confused.

This means the song has been "reset" from recurrency and treated like a fresh single. Billboard (I think unofficially) changed their recurrent rules back in late 2022. Songs that have never charted before are allowed to debut below the top 50 now even if they are many years old. Songs that charted for like 1 week (from an album bomb for instance) are still subject to age recurrency and need to be top 50 to re-enter (case in point: low down, which only barely made it back at #50).

Cruel Summer charted with Lover album bomb and so isn't allowed to chart again below 50. I do think Billboard should relax that restriction though!
