If she wanted to get another "hit" from Midnights Taylor should have pushed Midnight Rain. Not only it kinda matches her life right now but also is miles better than Karma.
That song has already aged for me and it's been out like six months, and the remix does nothing for me.

A bit shocked at Karma's drop, and you would think the release of the video and Ice Spice's appearance at her tour Friday night would've helped its second day. Anyway, I think anything besting its original #9 peak would be a win, #1 would just be icing on the cake. She probably really wants a 10th #1, but will easily get that with the Speak Now lead or another future single.

It probably would've returned to the top 10 at some point, remix or not. Midnight Rain would probably not do well on radio, despite its big streams. |

Just listened to that song, and it's just that one brief line, and especially with the lyrics changed and none of the rest of the song sounding very similar, I think it could have easily been coincidental. That song came out in 2006, and though I see it was briefly used in an iPod commercial and spawned a popular YouTube clip, it was otherwise not very remarkable or well-known. I think it's safe to say that even if Taylor heard the song way back then, she easily could've forgotten it. |

I'm guessing stan sales might still be enough for Karma to reach #1, if it stabilizes and that's a big if.
I ain't mad at the drop. The remix sucks and I might love her but I'm ok with mediocre version yielding mediocre results.

Yes, the part that is nearly identical is very short, but itβs really the combination of matching the melody with the lyric that made it jump out to me immediately. The CSS song was used heavily in iPod ads in the mid-00s and I think itβs entirely possible Taylor heard it back then and it influenced her unintentionally. Iβm not trying to come for Taylor btw. Itβs up to CSS to decide if they feel it copied her or not, but stuff like this happens accidentally all the time. I was genuinely curious if it was an intentional interpolation, since I do like the original CSS song a lot! |
