It definitely will soon. I feel like if the album bombs went away (i.e., Morgan Wallen, Lil Durk, etc) go away then it’s almost guaranteed to re-enter the charts and even re-peak. However, RCA needs to figure out how to improve streaming though we all know what kind of shit label they are so that’ll probably never happen.

#3 is Area Codes by Kali, which debuts on the TikTok charts this week. Kali is a 22-year old Atlanta rapper who was featured in the 2022 XXL Freshman class. Area Codes, which interpolates Ludacris ft. Nate Dogg's 2001 hit "Area Codes" has been hovering in the top 20 on US Spotify for a couple of weeks now.

Do people think stans didn't purchase singles and help artists secure peaks in the 90s and 2000s too? Like this isn't a new phenomenon. Most rushing to the stores or now sites release week to purchase a single are going to be fans. If a song can muster up enough purchases (within set rules, which I'm sure Billboard clarifies) to secure a #1 position, whether they bought the single from an artist's website or in an app, it deserves said position. At the end of the day it's still gonna be people propelling it to the top and a purchase from a "stan" isn't any less valuable than a purchase from a casual listener IMO. Stans are who give artists long careers after all. So long as people aren't buying 20 copies a piece (which again, I doubt Billboard would allow) I don't see an issue.

As far as "Karma" goes I don't see it selling enough to secure #1, but who knows. She's outperforming my expectations lately. Regardless if it did hit #1, it would have taken more than sales to get it there.

Oh yeah, I agree that sales are still a relevant metric that should be taken into account, and that a stan's sales are as valuable as any other sale. My point was mostly directed at songs that, without remixes or massive fan-driven sales (both of which tend to come together), wouldn't have reached at #1.

Ever since Say So back in 2020, many of the loudest fandoms have tried (and a lot of times, succeded) to carry their favorite artists to the top with songs that just lack any significant impact on both radio and streaming, being hits driven almost entirely by massive sales (which a lot of times ended up being just acts of mass-buying by fans). As such and looking back at Taylor's history of releasing many remixes to elevate or keep her songs at the top, I think it's fair to question whether Karma would be a "deserving" #1 previous to get more info about how it has been doing so far (by "deserving" I mean a #1 hit with the three main metrics more or less balanced and contributing at the song's success).

If Karma is doing ok outside of just sales, then it's all fair game. But again, I wouldn't be too surprised if that end up being not the case.

Karma is approaching top 10 on radio, and will probably be inside top 25-ish on streaming. It's hardly "Like Crazy" again.
